I'm thinking I posted this question in the wrong section before, so now I'm reposting it here. I'm hoping someone can help me. I manually downloaded a game from the website because the zip file was hosted on a non-supported site (Mega I believe) and wanted to install the game manually to the app. How do I do that, if it's even possible? I would like the game to appear in my library but even though I put it in the folder, it doesn't show up.

I've been trying to use the Mac installer since yesterday, but I only get this message. The site is back online and I would like to use the advertised client to get an overview of all games and so on.

I have tried reinstalling vpn no vpn clearing cookies logging out. 

I downloaded and ran the Itch installer (itch-setup) from the official website; at the time of writing, the version was 26.1.9.
The installation started correctly, but near the end, the window closed, and the last messages in the console indicated a problem with the sandbox.

The simplest solution is to run itch with the --no-sandbox parameter, but while that works, it removes a layer of security, so instead of taking the easy way out, I decided to find the root cause of the problem.

We need to navigate to the folder containing the executable file. This folder should be located within your user's home directory,under ".itch"
If we list the files, we will see a folder named "app" and the version number of the installed application. 

In my case, it will be "app-26-1-9", so I just need to type: 

cd app-26.1.9/

Once inside, we run the itch application from the console, and we should see an error message indicating why the application cannot be executed.

ot configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /home

/user/.itch/app-26.1.9/chrome-sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755.

For some reason, the installation did not correctly assign the user and permissions to the "chrome-sandbox" file.
To resolve this, we changed the user and permissions as indicated in the message using:

sudo chown root:root chrome-sandbox

sudo chmod 4755 chrome-sandbox

And that's it, in my case, that solved the problem and now I can run the Itch application normally.

PS: 
Another possible error is that the "user namespace sandbox" feature is not enabled. By default, it should be enabled in Ubuntu; you can check if it's enabled using the following command:

sysctl kernel.unprivileged_userns_clone

If it is enabled, it should return this value to you:

kernel.unprivileged_userns_clone = 1

If it returns a 0 instead of a 1, then it means it is not enabled, and it must be enabled using the following command:

sudo sysctl -w kernel.unprivileged_userns_clone=1 

and you can make that change permanent by adding this line:

kernel.unprivileged_userns_clone=1 

to the file /etc/sysctl.conf

I wanted to find an app to keep my itch io library organized, but when tried to download the latest version, I was redirected to an "Invalid file requested" blank page. I tried to download using many methods, but all of them lead to this page.

Step 1: Go to https://itch.freezing.top/app

Step 2: Click on "Start Download"

Step 3: Get redirected to the blank page (https://broth.itch.zone/install-itch/windows-amd64/LATEST/unpacked/default) with the "Invalid file requested".

Still, I managed to download the installer from github, and I get another error:

So, seems there is (at least in my case) no way to install the app.

I can launch the games from their respective installation folders.  It is only the itch client that exhibits this problem.

Recently (I noticed today but it seems to have been happening all weekend) it started returning 429 Too Many Requests from openresty.

I revoked my API key and generated a new one, and the script worked one time, and an hour later when it fired again it returned 429 Too Many Requests.

Have there been some changes?

If the latter happens and the game is running despite... not running, force quitting and relaunching the game does nothing. As does reinstalling the game. Going to the game's directory and running it from the file manually works perfectly fine, but running it through the itch app does not. The only way I've found to fix this issue is to completely uninstall the game and then install it again. The issue with this solution is that it goes back to the initial 50/50 chance the game will work on every install, and if something in the game changes (like I enabled a modded version of the game in the settings for example) then once again it goes back to that 50/50 chance that it will work or not.

This is becoming increasingly frustrating, as closing the game and reopening it to fix an issue becomes a coin toss as to whether or not the game will reopen, and I shouldn't have to reinstall games on a regular basis just to get them to work.

I'm on Windows 11, I have not tried to fiddle with Windows Defender's exceptions at all, both the itch app and all relevant games are installed on my HDD in a non-protected folder. There are no errors in the console that I could see that weren't caused by me force quitting games. The games do not crash. There are no leftover processes after quitting the games. The games show as running in the itch app but show no active window and do not launch.

A quick clarification: This would be for a long-term project (many month for create a vertical slice) as a volunteer. So, no money upfront, but a guaranteed percentage based on final sales.

I don't know how feasible this is, but I'd find it immensely more convenient having the manage collections options/tools available in the normal collections page when you mouse-over your titles. Or, at least, the option for it to act this way.

I just installed itch.io app on Ubuntu 25.04 for the first time and it doesn't work when I press on it. Any permanent simple solution?

This behavior was observed in two independent games, most likely the problem is on the itch app side

In the past I've been successfully using the API when running from the app (HTML5 game), testing for the Itch object existence from javascript as documented:

This no longer works (I always get 'no itch context', both when running in the app and the itch.io website). I also tried with this sample project (replacing the files in my own project)  https://github.com/fasterthanlime/sample-html-app  and it also does not find the Itch object.

Is there now an additional step to take besides the manifest?

For example currently it can show two options one 64-bit, one 32-bit. (EXE filename ends with "-32")

I'd like to  set it to never show the 32-bit option; maybe via a setting in Preferences?

I've been getting this error when scrolling through my library.  I have a large number of physical games from purchasing bundles and games over the years and so far no fix has been found

I recently installed the Itch.io app, at first I had no problems downloading a game, but it wasn't until I started to download the second game that it seems to go wrong, my connection is relatively good where I live (1mb/s), but when I try to download any game, it's like I don't have a good connection, because when I open the properties of the game folder, it seems to increase the size of it, but it's like I'm downloading at the speed of 1kb/s, I don't know if it is a server problem or what, I would like some help to see if this problem can be solved.

Hace poco instalé la aplicación de Itch.io, al principio no tuve problemas al descargar un juego, pero no fue hasta que comenzó con el segundo juego que parece andar mal, mi conexión es relativamente buena en donde vivo (1mb/s), pero cuando intento descargar cualquier juego, es como si no tuviera una buena conexión, ya que al abrir las propiedades de la carpeta del juego, parece aumentar el tamaño, pero es como si estuviera descargando a la velocidad de 1kb/s, no se si sea un problema del servidor o que, quisiera un poco de ayuda para ver si se puede resolver este problema.
