I guess no.

I saw that others have added new versions. Is it okay to add another version and replace the web version, as long as the original windows version still exists? Or do I need to keep the original web version?

Imo it has roguelike elements.

I'm looking to create a bropotato arcade style shooter. So you shoot with your mouse. and you're trying to protect your character on the screen from enemies. Every wave there is new enemies, and every wave you randomly have new weapons/items you can buy.

Is it acceptable to update the build with such non-gameplay changes after the deadline, or is it better to wait until the jam voting ends?

https://itch.freezing.top/t/3561289/one-game-for-2-jams-One Game for 2 jams ?https://itch.freezing.top/t/3561289/one-game-for-2-jams-Tue, 05 Mar 2024 11:26:23 GMTTue, 05 Mar 2024 11:26:23 GMTTue, 05 Mar 2024 11:26:23 GMTHello ! So i was hesitating on which jam i should do last weekend, between the Mini Jam : Fishing and the 7DLR as i had an idea that fitted for both jams.  As I was not sure i started working on it March 2 in the morning and finally submitted it Sunday night for the Mini Jam.

Sadly it is kind of a buggy mess and i would love to keep working on it as i i have more free time than anticipated this week.

Would it be possible for me to work on it till March 10 and submit it to the 7DRL ? Of course the game would change a lot in between and i would make a separate itch.io page for it.

Thank you very much for your answer and reading time !

https://itch.freezing.top/t/3541846/are-rouguelite-games-acceptableAre rouguelite games acceptable?https://itch.freezing.top/t/3541846/are-rouguelite-games-acceptableTue, 27 Feb 2024 09:19:16 GMTTue, 27 Feb 2024 09:19:16 GMTTue, 27 Feb 2024 13:53:46 GMTI have an idea of combining two genres for the game jam game I want to make. But I got to thinking, which requirements for roguelikes are mandatory?

Theres:

  • Permanent death
  • Turn-based movement
  • Procedurally generated dungeons
  • Tile-based graphics
  • Dungeon exploration
  • Treasure collecting

If we replace turn-based movement with real-time movement, replace dungeons with a semi-open world that is randomly generated, have the enemy placement and objective of the game be randomized, and replace tile-based graphics with 3D, this would be considered a rogue-lite.

Would that be an acceptable game for this jam or do we need to create a hard-core roguelite that includes all of the above elements?

Being character-centric helps the player establish a strong relationship with the individual characters, increasing the impact of the permanent consequences

I just want to be 100% sure, but does this mean I can use a party system for turn-based combat? I'm thinking grid-based tactical combat, but want to be able to control the moves of all party members when it's their turn. The alternative would be AI controlled allies while the player only controls the character of their choice.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just want to be certain.

You CAN use external libraries, game engines, pre-existing code/algorithms, pre-existing art, etc. You can even start your game from an existing game if you are planning to turn it into something unique. If in doubt, be clear about what resources were reused.

I’d like to pick back up my game from Global Game Jam for this jam. A lot of the core systems are built (in an extremely buggy state) and it’s not a roguelike… yet. I’d like to make it one.

  • Give it procedural generation rather than authored content
  • Give the game actual roguelike progression (run modifiers, upgrades, etc)
  • (if time) Remake the art

I would clearly explain where the project was at before the jam in the description and in any submission text forms.

I’ll jam alongside yall either way but I was wondering if I should steer away from submitting a project. I don’t think I’ve ever done a jam in this way before so I wanted to double check.
