When I analyze the data, I see that I receive the second-most traffic from Brazil, right behind the US. However, based on the country codes associated with the IP addresses of every purchase, Brazil comprises a disproportionately low percentage of purchases.

I’ve come up with three reasons for this discrepancy:

1. Developing economy

On average, people in Brazil have less spending power than people in G7 countries like the US, Germany, the UK, Canada, etc. My program costs $10. This is a non-trivial amount of money that could alienate some potential buyers, especially in a country with a relatively weaker economy per capita.

2. Language barrier

Brazilians are less likely to speak/read English compared to people in high-income non-English-speaking countries like Germany. However, considering the accessibility of browser auto-translate features, I don’t see this being a significant issue.

3. Lack of Pix support

Most online transactions in Brazil are done via Pix, which is a payment system that was launched by the Central Bank of Brazil five years ago. Based on my research, it’s very uncommon for people in Brazil to pay for something online using PayPal or Stripe. I suspect that a lack of Pix support is a contributing factor to breaking the sales funnel.

What I’m asking

Here’s what I’d like to know:

  • Can anyone living in Brazil provide their insights into these observations?
  • Are there any other creators or developers who have made similar observations or have had similar experiences?
  • Is it possible and feasible for Itch to support more payment processors such as Pix in the near future?

Something that a lot of people forget though is that Nintendo is also in the middle of a lawsuit against Pocketpair to literally monopolize the videogaming industry thanks to patented mechanics.
I'm quite scared from what will happen to the gaming industry the day Gabe Newell retires from Valve, so I was thinking that something very interesting might be if realities like Itch or Gamejolt go fully decentralized

As far as I know the Itch.io launcher is open source, so what if you go even more open source?
In the last few weeks I found out about a very interesting decentralized social network called Misskey, which was originally created in Japan many years ago.
At the moment their original server has over 600k users as far as I remember, but the best part is that they have an entire "servers" section in which people can decide which server to join, and all of the servers who have been created so far can be sorted by main language, members, and public or invite-only access, so that you can choose the best server for you to join

I think something like this applied to Itch might be amazing

So I have been on itch.io for a few months now and I've noticed that the website shows you a recommended list of games based on what you've played/downloaded on the website, which is a great feature to help people discover new games based on their interests. However I sometimes like to explore and wander around on itch.io, trying out games from time to time just for the sake of seeing what they're all about without necessarily ending up having more interest in them or their tags after being done checking them out. Yet those tags and the games related to them end up in my recommendations list although I know I'm not gonna be interested in them, and it just kinda bugs me to see them here without being offered a choice to dismiss them. I do believe I could eventually hide the games individually but I really don't feel like that'd be the proper solution in that specific case. I know I could also ignore those games and tags, but again, I don't feel like that's an appropriate solution.

This is pretty much why I would very much like to see an option to dismiss certain tags, games, or even clear out the recommendations list as a whole on itch.io, I really feel like a feature such as this one would be welcomed to a lot of people who might be in the same situation. I do think that what one wants to see in their list of recommended games should be left up to the user, a bit like on the  Steam store where you can choose to dismiss/hide games you aren't interested in from your discoveries list.

I have also done some research on the feedback forum and I did stumble upon similar threads, but those either weren't really covering that exact topic or simply were left with no answer from anyone. I am not the first one to give feedback on the matter, but I still feel like it deserves more attention then what it has been given so far.

Would it be possible to implement a feature where comments that link outside of itch are not displayed until the creator of the page approve them? This could be an opt-in feature so creators who want to have their comments be a free-for-all like they are now can still have that, but it could be a nice in-between option for people who don't want to close off comments entirely but also don't want to keep deleting suspicious-looking spam comments, and it would make itch comments safer because people wouldn't be led off itch to suspicious external websites.

We are a small indie team currently working on our project Extinction Core, and we’d love to share our latest progress and hear your feedback.

Extinction Core is a bullet-hell game set in a world powered by a rare mineral that greatly advanced human civilization. Twenty-five years later, kaiju suddenly began invading human settlements. Our protagonist, Mira, survived a kaiju attack that took her entire family, and as she grew up, she joined the organization UNDM with one goal: to eliminate the kaiju for good.

In the current build, we’ve implemented:

  • Player bullet patterns

  • Enemy bullet patterns 

  • The overall game atmosphere
  • And a key mechanic: kaiju control — players can take control of a kaiju to fight certain enemies that cannot be defeated otherwise.

One of the highlights so far is the color and atmosphere shift when enemies prepare to attack. This system may evolve as we keep refining the gameplay to make it more engaging and fun.

We’d really appreciate any feedback — whether it’s about the atmosphere, bullet patterns, readability, difficulty, or overall game feel. All suggestions will help us polish and improve the project.

It would be much easier to navigate the projects list if I could scroll through it with my mouse or with a scroll bar. Here is how my experience went with navigating the list:

At first, I tried to scroll it with my mouse wheel, but that didn’t work. I looked around and saw a red bar at the bottom. Thinking it was a scroll bar I tried to drag it, but the only way to cycle through the list of projects was to click the > arrow on the far right.

Since they have gathered this information, it saddens me that they didn't take the next step of actually letting us see what is AI tagged and what isn't. As a guy who sometimes pay for content, I'd very much like to know if it is created by a human or by an algorithm.

Here's an example:

Unfortunately, there's no way to hover on mobile. I thought a tap or long press might activate the tooltip instead, but neither do on either platform. For what it's worth, I'm using an Android smartphone with Vivaldi (Chromium-based) mobile browser, and a Windows 11 desktop where I've accessed Itch on both Vivaldi and Firefox browsers.

My solution would be that instead of only hovering, simply tapping/single-clicking the star rating on both mobile and desktop should activate the tooltip. It would also be nice if every instance of viewing the rating value had consistent phrasing.

Could this small thing be updated?

I’m from India and I really love what you’ve built here—itch.io is such a great platform for indie games and creators. But I wanted to point out something that’s been a bit of a struggle: it’s really hard for many of us in India to buy games on itch.io because we don’t always have access to credit cards or PayPal.

If you could add UPI (Unified Payments Interface) as a payment option, it would make a huge difference. UPI is widely used here, super easy, and way more accessible for people who just want to support devs or buy cool games.

I know adding new payment methods isn’t simple, but I hope this can be considered in the future. It would really open things up for a big part of your global audience.

Sometimes I don’t even realize when I accidentally clicked it.

Both the “View all by” and “Unfollow” buttons may appear as the first button in the button list in top-right. This is also one of the reasons for accidental clicks.

Although I can click “follow” again, this would notify the creator, causing unnecessary disturb.

I think it’s a really cool way to keep a player engaged and give them feedback on their progress.

Implementing achievements in your own game isn’t that hard, but it I think feels less rewarding to get a popup in-game saying “You got an achievement” than also getting it checked on a big list in the itch.io app.

Maybe you could add something like this to itch? I’d also love to see things like a percentage bar that shows how many players have an achievement or even hidden achievements.

It would be great if I could choose tags and/or genres to exclude from the display list while still seeing any others!

I'm sorry in advance if this is already a feature and I just didn't see it, but that would really improve my browsing experience on Itch! I know I can filter by a specific genre or tag, but this is a request for the opposite feature.

But the last 6-8 Months, every single payment has taken longer than 25+ Days (After moderation)

So on average with moderation I wait 30-45 days until I see any money. This used the to take 14-17 days.
It's gotten 2-3x worse for a lot of users. I assume a lot of people from non US countries like me are just being ignored.

And in honesty America/California is the greediest f#@$ing economic cult I've ever experienced, after they get their cut and I pay all my foreign taxes I lose about 40% of my sales. ( 5% going to itch)

Please tell me how I'm supposed to treat this like a business if I have no idea about the consistency or timeline of transactions?

If I understand this correctly, when you rate a game and add a review, unlike every other website on the Internet, and contrary to human logic itself, that review is not actually published, but the rating is? If you want to write a public "review", you have to write a "comment", despite the fact that those words have different meanings?

It does say in rather small print that's easy to ignore "Reviews are shared with developers and your followers." But even that doesn't mean it's shared ONLY with those people.

So essentially I've unwittingly been a rude prick, telling people to their face I don't like their game when I've written negative reviews? That's great...

Who thought this was a good idea???

Hey itch.io team and community!  As an indie dev (or just a fan of the platform), I've been thinking about how itch could become even more sustainable for creators making free or low-cost games. Right now, monetization options are great — pay-what-you-want, bundles, and IAPs — but for truly free projects (like prototypes, jams, or passion projects), passive income is tough without going full Patreon or external ads.  My idea: Official integration for non-intrusive ads.  What it could look like: Built-in tools to embed simple ad networks (e.g., Unity Ads, Google AdMob, Adsense or even itch's own lightweight system) directly into games. Devs control everything: rewarded videos after levels, interstitials between sessions, or banners that don't block gameplay. No forced 30-sec views — keep it optional and skippable. Player-friendly features: Let users disable ads with a one-time donation (via itch's payment system) or for free after X plays. This respects the "pure experience" itch is known for. Win-win for everyone: Devs get passive revenue (itch takes a small cut, like 10% from sales?), more free games flood the platform, and itch grows its ecosystem. Analytics dashboard for devs to track earnings/views would be a cherry on top. Why now? With rising costs for tools/assets, many indies are leaving free releases behind. This could bring back that experimental spirit without compromising quality. (Inspired by chats on similar platforms like Newgrounds, where ad support keeps old games alive.

About 1/3 of the posts there have actual feedback but the most don't. It's just a developer making a post and nobody replies. A lot of "get feedback" forums have the issue where people just ask for feedback but nobody gives feedback. 

My suggestion is to add a rule saying that for every time you ask for feedback on your own game, you must first give feedback to at least 3 (or some number) of other people's games. Feedback must have a length limit to prevent people from just saying "I like it" to get around the limit.

While searching for free games here on Itch to potentially play and review for a YouTube channel, I noticed the occasional user post a comment on the occasional game, mentioning that they've played, reviewed and posted a video about their game. Both the developer and Youtuber seemed be in the process of slowly growing their audiences and both parties appeared to receive some incremental benefit from their interaction here. I was wondering if there was an opportunity for a more accessible form of direct interaction between these two types of creators here on the forum pages. A forum section where aspiring developers can contact and offer their work to aspiring content creators or vice versa. I haven't seen a category for it but I have been away for a while. Perhaps there is more detriment than benefit in streamlining the interaction this way that I've overlooked.

In Itch's current system, you can rate games without commenting. This doesn't help at all. It allows rating spamming without the player even needing to explain the reason for their rating.

That is, if there are reasons at all, and it's not just a grumpy player saying "I didn't like the content, 1 star."

For Christ's sake, guys. This isn't serious... It's amateurish for an old site like this.

So seriously, my deep desire is, in order to rate a game, the players needing to leave a full comment on WHAT ARE THE REASONS for the good or bad rating.

It might be a pain to moderate thousands of comments, but it's simply unfair to the devs to leave them vulnerable to this kind of thing due to poor/limited moderation.

I’m writing this because I’ve been facing an ongoing issue that I believe many other creators are likely also dealing with—the lack of a fully functional blocking system on itch.io.

The Situation

The current blocking feature on itch.io is severely limited. The 3 main concerns are:

  1. Blocked users can still follow and interact with the person who blocked them [1] [2] [3] [4] [5].
  2.  Creators cannot remove individual followers or prevent specific users from following them [3] [4] [5]
  3. Blocked accounts can continuously un-follow and follow, causing harassment through notification spam

Additional Concerns: 

  • Users have no granular control over which activities are visible to followers [5] [6] [7]
  • Blocked accounts can still purchase and download games from the blocker.
  • Blocked users still appear in search results, potentially exposing creators to unwanted content or interactions [8] [9] [10] [13].

This system fails to protect creators from persistent harassment, allowing blocked individuals to continue their disruptive behavior unchecked.

Why This Needs More Attention

Multiple forum threads discuss the need for improved blocking and privacy features [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10].

Some of these are multiple years old, and yet there hasn't been any improvement yet, even though harassment is against itch.io's terms of service. [11]

It's possible other users already left itch.io becauseof this. I know I’m not the only one affected by this. Going public with this issue is scary and uncomfortable, it puts me in danger, and frankly, it shouldn’t have to be necessary.

I’m speaking out not just for myself, but for the many other creators who might be silently suffering from similar issues—unable to fully block someone from following them or viewing their activity, but too afraid or ashamed to speak up. We are being left vulnerable and unsure of how to use the platform without being reminded of unwanted attention.

Impact on Creators

The consequences of these inadequate features are significant:

  • Creators face ongoing harassment without effective means to stop it.
  •  Some users limit their activity on the platform, potentially harming their careers.
  •  The fear of unwanted attention can stifle creativity and community engagement. 

Comparison With Competitors

  GameJolt, a competitor platform, offers a more effective blocking feature, highlighting itch.io's shortcomings in this area [12].

The Need For Action

It's crucial for itch.io to please prioritize the safety and well-being of its creator community.

By implementing these changes, the platform can foster a safer environment for all users, encourage more creators to join and actively participate, and maintain its position as a leading platform for independent game developers.

What I’m asking for is a more robust blocking system that gives creators more control over their privacy and safety. Specifically, please consider implementing the following:

Feature Requests

  1. The ability to completely block a specific user from following your account.
  2.  The ability to remove individual followers.  
  3. More nuanced privacy settings that allow creators to select which activity should be shared on the feed
  4. Measures to prevent notification spam from repeated following/unfollowing.
  5. At the very least, the ability to turn off notifications for new followers.

The time for action is now. Creators deserve a platform where they can share their work without fear of harassment or unwanted attention. Itch.io has the opportunity to lead by example and set a new standard for creator protection in the digital space.
