I think the graphics look good, and the gameplay was pretty fun too. I think some faster movement and music could really add a lot. I think you might want to add some instructions on the itch page too, because it took me a little to figure out the controls and how to navigate between levels, but once I knew what to do, it was a lot more fun. The viewport was also a bit too big, it included a lot of gray space that I figured was supposed to be off-screen, and the black screen softlock other people were talking about happened to me a few times. Good job though!
I was able to collect several rounds of keys and knock down several rounds worth of doors. Pretty fun! I'd be curious to see how the game would play with a little more speed added to both the player and enemy characters. It'd be worth updating the itch page with the control scheme and/or doing a small tutorial in game, too, as it took me a few to figure out what I was doing. Thanks for making and sharing your game!
Really cool mechanic idea! I also liked the enemy doors. Even though the gameplay is basic they are still somewhat scary and menacing.
I also got the black screen bug then i accidentally lost all my keys! Fighting those doors is tough with just one which really emphasized how important retrieval is.. might be too difficult to get them back without taking damage with the current movement speed.
Shows a lot of promise conceptually and gave me nostalgia from a game I played as a little kid. If you want to check out a free retro game that could be inspiring, check out God of Thunder :D it's free on steam and might inspire some game ideas to expand this 'thrown ammo' concept!
The movement feels very sluggish, and the viewport on the level is tiny. It unfortunately soft locked me with a black screen as I was figuring out the controls.
