How does the game fit the theme?
The risk factor of choosing more difficult fish to get more money which is dangerous as the fishes with higher stars give more money but cost a lot more, which can make it devastating if you lose them.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
1. Kenney ui sound effects: https://kenney.nl/assets/interface-sounds
2. Crusenho complete UI pack: https://crusenho.itch.io/complete-ui-essential-pack
3. GdQuest assets like particles and a custom countdown timer
4. Kenney particles

Loved the variety of the minigames !A great entry overall ^^
Interesting idea! It was fun to play.
Nice game! The variety of the minigames was really engaging! The music made everything feel a lot more intense as well. I really like the idea of allowing the player to pick and choose which games they wanted to select - I was much worse at typing than the other types of games so I always skipped out on those. Super cool game!
I really liked the mini games. They reminded me of games I've played a lot in the past, like Human Benchmark and Type Racer. It is also a nice touch that the harder difficulties are not all just "same but faster" - for example, in the Disco Fish, the letters can suddenly spin the opposite direction and spawn closer to the beam.
The silliness of the fish names and drawings was also amusing.
I ended up always skipping Ninja Fish because it is too hard/random for me. Sometimes the orb is at the same position as 1-2 other orbs, and then they all change looks and directions simultaneously, making it practically impossible to know which one I needed to track. This feels unfair. Perhaps it would be more fair if the change of looks and directions happened at different times.
But overall I had fun playing the game, it also fits perfectly with the theme. Well done.
Thanks for playing!
For each minigame, I made a script that can let me change a resource(sort of like a JSON file) of all the stats that can be changed for each minigame, like for example the Disco fish has min and max rotation speed, chance of anticlockwise, spawn location range, stuff like that. This made it really easy to scale the difficulties, and make minigames harder or easier just by changing the stats.
Ya, I agree the ninja minigame is way too hard, it's the only 4 star where I cannot beat (I get 0% lol), I definitely need to nerf it. A simple fix might be just to increase the Z index of the main orb so it always shows above the other orbs, as well as definitely reducing the number of orbs.
Thanks for the compliments! 😊
Nice one! I liked the varity of minigames and the minigames itself. Creative.
awesome variety of minigames, game felt fresh because of it. Love how all the menus and interactivity works, seems quite well polished. Well done!
So many work for only one person! Congrats! I had a lot of fun. The art is so fun too and works well with this type of game!
interesting take on the mini-game concept. Some of the pauses were a little long -- I kept waiting for a "click to continue" type pause. The music was not bad, but got a little repetitive. good first jam entry!
That was fun and stressful in a good way. Am I weird that my favorite aspect of this game is the drawn art? It has charm.
Definitely has charm to it. Nice game!
I like the difficulty/payout mechanic. It seems like a good way to let the player dial in their desired risk level in consideration of remaining time and money. I was unsure of whether there was any added benefit to collecting fish in my inventory. From what I saw, you could only play a given fish once anyway so I never felt the need to stockpile anything beyond a single trip to the shop.
This game has a funky premise (buy fish to play their minigames to pay rent) but under the surface it's a fun collection of typing minigames. Some games are harder than others, and I've focused mostly on astro fish & scholar fish. The jam theme is integrate pretty well over all... sometimes it's better to spend the money to re-roll at the market than buy a fish that might not work out. Solid entry!
Great mini game variety. Though doing it for rent money was too close to home!
love the art and mini games, the difficulty was something else, at least I noticed that the 2 star mini games f.e were really harder than the 1 star haha. congratz!
multiple minigames in a game jam is just amazing, the game feel is smooth, you got the difficulty pretty spot on, amazing for 1 person and very underrated!
This is really fun. I like how you combined all the minigames to make one. The typing game was hard. The entire game felt really nice. Good Job!
I like that you were able to make so many little games and combine them to an overarching objective. I think that kind of thing is hard to do . For some reason the typing games made be forget where every letter on my keyboard was but overall I think this is super cool game. Well done.
Thanks for playing! I'll be getting to your game soon.
Very cool and original game.
Its an interesting spin on the theme. I love how I had to choose between more or less challenging fishes.
here are my ratings of mini games from most liked to least
1. Astro fish - personal favorite. it felt fun and challenging, although balls overlapping felt harder for unfair reasons.
2. Ninja fish - pretty fun as well, locking on on the ball and frantically trying not to lose it. but I lost the first round because I didn't know ball could change color. Also sometimes balls spawn almost on top of each other and change to the same color.
3. Scholar fish - still enjoyable, but it was too unforgiving, there is either "correct" or "wrong", no "almost" or "ok", sometimes I would hit correct than I pressed the next letter a bit to fast and my previous answer was changed from correct to wrong. so that was frustrating. especially on a 2 star fish.
4. Disco fish - last place, but still fun. It was just very confusing with letters spinning around to recognize the letter on time. letters spinning with different speeds made it even harder.
The hand drawn art was very cute. although cute. if you will plan to release it i think you should polish it. You can keep the "kid drew this" aesthetic but make it more well rounded. With well defined shapes. Like Kirby yarn world for example.
Music was fun and upbeat, kept me in the rhythm of playing.
Unfortunately the game ended abruptly with a "You win" screen after i finished one of the minigames (guess i reached the 1000$ mark). I hoped to play a bit more, unlock new slots. But i was scared that a certain point i will have to play something with 3 stars :D
If that was not intentional and that is a bug, please tell me how to avoid it and i try it some more later
Overall very cool game, will be happy to play it once you release it.
Thanks for playing!
The aesthetic is the best I could draw haha, polishing it won't be too hard though.
Ya, when you get the YOU WIN screen it means you got enough money to pay your rent.
The way the game works:
A very nice game! The concept is very unique, the difficulty spike is astounding. I like the music and art choices, the game play is smooth and easy to understand; well done!
Thanks for playing! The art style is the classic low quality pixel art style, which is apparently the only one I can draw. 😂
Well that was an eye-opener for me. I didn't realize how bad I am at typing without looking at my keyboard haha The minigames are pretty solid mechanically, no bugs that I noticed. Could only reliably do well on the ball tracking one! Could definitely be expanded for more minigames/fishes! Overall, pretty dang good for a first game, especially considering the time constraint! Good job!
Thanks for playing! In my opinion, the typing minigames are the easiest, shows just how hard all the games are hehe
