This is a really cool idea with an entertaining presentation and I can't imagine how much work it must have been to create a mobius strip that works this smoothly! As others have said, an option to change the speed of the game would have been a helpful feature for a game like this. I also think that the building upgrades should have had a tooltip or something explaining what the benefits of them are, since they are so expensive.
Fallout new vegas when mr. House won and successfully sent people to space
Neat. I've somehow broken it before the last level though
Very nice setting! Really felt the balancing of rewards and intricate building order! I took the Zero Gains quite personal :D
Somehow this reminded me of Spore, maybe a space age where you build a megacorp 😂
Pretty cool game I have enjoyed it very much and I hope my Alien visitors did aswell XD
Cool game! I was also thinking about mobius strips during the brainstorm phase but couldn't come up an interesting idea, and this is a very fun way to utilize the concept. The movement and rotations around the loop was very smooth and intuitive, I can imagine that being quite the headache to solve.
I really liked the detail that buildings across from each other could be visited in any order, it made you try to find combinations of buildings that were often visited together.
I think the the game felt a little slow in its progression (especially in the beginning) which I think is partly due to the size of the loop, I found myself mostly placing buildings towards the start and end of the loop as that gave me the best overview of things and it made the majority of the loop just dead space where I had to wait ages before the guests would reach the end.
I think a way to check where each guest in the list is currently at in the loop would also help, maybe clicking them would take you to their location. Another quality of life feature I would have liked is showing how many of each building you currently have, when the strip started getting fuller and the guest list longer it was difficult to know which kinds of buildings were actually under capacity.
Fun! I like the idea of a linear city builder. As others have said a speed up button would be nice, though I think the game could also use some kind of constraint on where you place things, or a bonus for putting certain buildings next to others or something. Great concept :)
Very fun and unique take on the loop theme but it's a very nice game. One thing I would change is make the game faster or atleast the progression at the start faster.
Thanks! Everyone is reccomending a speed up button, I really should have added it ahahah
As a programmer I feel like the strip and the camera moving along with it was the hardest to make which you nailed.
Ahahah that took me more than a day for that so I had to cut down on so many features that I originally planned
Really like the idea! But why would I provide service to an alien while they only give me 2 ◊ lol
One advice would be adding the speed up button. I only want those alien to wait not myself.
No aliens give that little, the amount of money displayed is how much cash the alien has left. That means you did a good job since you made them spend all their money! Speed up button is definitely a missed opportunity.
Ahh, I thought that number represents how much they will give me. Didn't notice that number is changing.
Very clever idea to base the game on the concept of Möbius strip. Now I understand why there are sometimes two identical stores on the same street, just a short distance apart - there are aliens that don't like backtracking :P
Had to torture some aliens that were looking for the casino that wasn't built yet :D
The game is pretty addicting and has some potential for the full release. For the balancing, it would be fun if some places had to be kept at a certain distance from each other, like the club and the hotel.
thats a fun idea! I had soo many other ideas like managing employees and keeping them out of the way of customers, traffic, better upgrades, and so on, so there is definitely potential to expand. Thanks for playing!
Love these sorts of tycoon games and this is a fun twist for the theme of the jam. Wish it was a little quicker speed but I understand why it wouldn't be lol. Never got to see what upgrading did and ran into a bug that stopped me from relocating things. Had lots of fun regardless :)
I like the idea of a möbius strip. very cool
Möbius strips actually came up during our brainstorming, but we couldn't think of anything interesting with them, but not only have you played on the loop part of a Möbius loop, but you've also played on the strip part of a Möbius strip! Absolutely genius! The gameplay itself is also really clever, trying to figure out how exactly to position everything to satisfy as many people as possible. In regards to feedback, there's only a couple things I have to say, everything else was absolutely wonderful. Firstly, the scrolling in the guests menu was really, really slow for me (although I know scrolling behaviour can vary wildly between devices), but it made it practically impossible for me to see anything other than the first 6 guests. The other thing is, similar to what someone else said, there was one time where I bought something right before I leveled up, so I couldn't afford the new building, and because most of my new guests wanted to use that building I ended up just having to wait while money very slowly came in. The only other thing, and it didn't end up being a problem at all, just leaving me a little confused, is that I'm not sure what upgrading buildings does. I'm assuming it just increases the money earned from them, but maybe something saying what the benefits are could be helpful. Overall an amazing submission, and lots of fun to play through. Best of luck in the jam and your future endeavours!
thanks for such a detailed comment and for the nice words! To adress your feedback:
1. Yeah, scrolling varies so much with devices and I only had my MacBook to test on, so on windows devices it could be widely different
2. This was actually intentional to entice you to “save up” before the next level up, but given that multiple people have complained i should have probably done it differently
3. Upgrading is something that was originally a much larger aspect of the game design. I was going to make the buildings have a specific capacity for the max number of customers inside of them and upgrading would increase this capacity. In the end i didn’t manage to implement that due to time constraints and just made the upgrades give you some xp and boost all future sales in that building
In regards to 2, I definitely started playing around that after realised it, and it totally added to the strategy, adding yet another thing to work around. Maybe the number of people that require a building could be halved if you haven't placed that building down yet, that way it still punishes you for not planning ahead, but it isn't quite as brutal as it currently is. I totally agree that it should be kept in some regard though.
I am downloading the game now, but I have to say: the images alone are making me excited.
Edit: I have played it, and my only issue is that you can get guests who want to use something before you can even buy it.
haha, i hope you ended up enjoying it!
hm, that shouldn’t be the case. Do you mean before you can afford to buy it or before its even unlocked? If the second on which level have you noticed this
Very fun! Really good concept, and really good execution. Making a Möbius strip a literal strip is a really creative idea lol
Good job!
I like how the theme is interpreted. Unique idea.
Lovely game! Enjoyed it quite a bit! I can see it could get quite a bit complex!
Great job!
Amazing design with a nice Game Jam theme follow-up. Game management with some building around the Möbius loop is creative! Camera control was initially confusing for me. Also, it would be nice to have a little menu where you could change SFX settings or see the tutorial again.
yoo i love management games!!! the idea of the strip being a mobius strip and having to plan around the order that customers visit is so unique, love it :DD think that the game is quite slow at the beginning though, if there was an option to speed up that might help :)
