Oh this was awesome!  Probably my favorite I've tried from the jam to be honest.  I notoriously don't startle easily, but you got me.

The aesthetic was pleasant, with the VHS scanlines(if that's the proper term), and the strange stapled-on faces are eerie and cool.  Sound design was excellent-- especially in the beginning outside.  Approaching the party with cars rolling by with functional doppler effect set a good atmosphere.  I will say the doppler effect seemed a little easy to trigger indoors; it seemed I was able to pitch the music up or down by sprinting towards or away from where it was playing.

The dialog can come off a little corny, but I felt it really fit with the setting of trying to awkwardly reconnect with people you sort-of know.

I don't know how deep you intended to get with the narrative here, but it really reminded me of the experience of graduating highschool and seeing people I somewhat knew change greatly over a couple years, then disappear out of state or somewhere.  Which also dovetailed well with the guy coming back from the snack run a little different, and people disappearing from the party.  Just my two cents there.

That final guy at the end: I didn't get a lot of time to take him in before things popped off, but something gave me a weird vibe immediately when I saw him, like his legs seemed backwards and he was standing strange.  Don't know if that was intentional, but it did a good job setting me up to get caught off-guard.

Also, saying you don't remember someone and that it's because "they have total stranger vibes" was very funny; I could see that actually entering my lexicon.

Thanks a lot for the kind words! I'm really happy you liked it and that it even managed to get a startle out of you 😄

You picked up on a lot of the little details I tried to include, and it’s awesome to hear the atmosphere worked for you.

And yeah, “total stranger vibes” making it into your vocab absolutely made my day 😂

I'm a bit late with my response, my bad. This was a pretty neat game. It really made me feel like I was at a party, connecting with old friends and classmates. The dialog was expansive with minimal grammatical errors, and I felt everyone was characterized well. I know how long it can take to write dialogue, so I can really appreciate the effort put into it.

There were a lot of bugs, and I soft locked myself twice by accident. I get it, my game's got plenty of bugs too. It's an unfortunate side effect of the time limit.

What I did have issue with however was the movement. It felt too slow and too slippery. Like walking through water and on ice all at once. I also often got stuck behind doors, walls, furniture, etc., which made maneuvering difficult and unfun.

All in all, pretty neat.

Thanks a lot for playing!

Glad you enjoyed the writing and atmosphere - i spent a lot of time on the dialogue.

The movement and collision bugs are definitely on my list to fix after the jam. Really appreciate the detailed feedback!

There are a few minor bugs in the game, but I liked the idea. The routine process of talking to all the characters gradually reduces my vigilance, so I'm surprised at the end. The game also has an interesting style that works on the feeling of paranoia (especially in the second half).

Thanks for playing!

Happy you enjoyed the idea and the paranoid atmosphere - that's exactly what i were going for.

I'll fix those small bugs after the jam. Appreciate your comment!

That was surprisingly long for a game jam submission. The two most annoying issues were: 1) I don't slip off walls, and can get stuck on doorways, and 2) you don't know how many people you still need to speak to (if I missed one on an upper floor, I wouldn't know until I try to open the front door.

Aside from all of that, the visuals were quite nice; the shadows a bit harsh, but the models were neat. I love the retro style, and the face stitching was quite eerie (especially paired with the dialogue). I'm glad you added sprinting, not just for the chase, but also to make navigating around more convenient.

Neat submission.

Thanks a lot for the thoughtful feedback! 😊

Really glad you liked the visuals, retro style, and the stitched faces - i wanted that eerie feeling!

You're totally right about the movement issues and unclear objective tracking. The wall collisions and doorway sticking were things i didn’t have time to polish during the jam, and i'll definitely add a clearer "remaining NPCs" indicator in a future update.

I've got stuck at the entrance until I figured out that Enter was the button to continue talking. To much things to read for me, so I didn't get to the story sry, I don't kow what happend after talking to everyone. I liked the character animations and "masks" they are wearing.

Thanks for playing! 😊

Totally understandable about the reading; i’ll look into pacing the dialogue better in future updates.

Game has good post processing, character design and dialogs.

But also lots of bugs: can change fov only to a wery small number, pressing esc after reloading pauses game permanently, some dialogs didnt change after sleepeng, not thretning chase.

Overall, nice.

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the visuals and dialogues.

I am aware of those bugs  and will fix them soon. Appreciate your feedback!

Wow, that was a long one! You basically got a full game here 👏 I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and feeling the tension escalating. There’s a lot of well-written and enjoyable dialogue. I loved how the jokes and flirting were gradually replaced with genuine worry.

I think the final chase was bugged for me though. The murderer wouldn’t hurt me and I could still talk to him (lol)

Developer(+2)

Haha thank you so much! 😄 I’m really glad you enjoyed it - I had a lot of fun writing those character moments and building up the tension bit by bit. It's awesome to hear that the shift from lighthearted to serious actually came through!

And lol, yeah... that final chase bug seems to have a mind of its own 😅. I'll definitely take another look at that scene and see what's going on. Thanks again for playing and for the thoughtful feedback! 💖

My favorite aspects of the game was the sound design and the clear style choices, high contrast shadows...The looks reminded me of The Sims, not a bad thing, it felt nostalgic like an early game. The sound and the road outside with cars moving was really nice, felt like we were "outside" in the world, and then as you approach the party the music gets louder. Small things like that really come together. I enjoyed the narrative, would love to see the UI optimized and improved outside of a jam! Nice job!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for your comment! I'm really glad you liked the sound design and style - it's great to hear the world felt alive to you. Totally agree about the UI - with more time, i'd love to polish that up. Appreciate you playing and sharing your thoughts!

I found the game to be weird, but not scary. I liked the vibe and the art style. The music was passable. The game looks like it needed more time.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I was aiming for more of a psychological horror vibe, with the story building most of the tension.

There is a jumpscare at the end, but I think most players see it coming when they approach the bathroom - and yeah, it's totally avoidable, so a lot of people probably skip it entirely.

I didn't have as much time as I wanted to polish everything, but I really appreciate the feedback. Glad to hear the art style and vibe still worked for you!

not a bad game I got stuck a few times I also had a problem if I took too long exploring the music would stop other than that I enjoyed it the characters definitely looked creepy good job

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Really glad you enjoyed it. I'll definitely look into those issues and get them fixed in a future update - thanks for pointing them out and helping improve the game!

Interesting! The aesthetics here are really strong, I love the lighting and the high saturation and deep shadows. The subtle 'wrongness' of the environment and the people also does a lot of work.

Thanks for including a Linux build!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Really glad you picked up on those details - the mood and slight unease were definitely intentional. And of course, happy to support Linux users!
