The environment was impressive and the enemies look cool, the combat was straightforward and I started fighting the boss by lunging in and taking stabs but then just spamming attack, overall I wasn't sure if I was taking damage but I still tried to win each battle and stay alive!
It's an alright little hack and slash! Though I didn't find it fit the theme very well, but it was fun to stab at the skeletons! Though my first play session was cut a bit short as I got wedged inside the altar at the end of the room while trying to understand what I needed to do (until I realized it was just a wave based hack and slash) I also struggled to grab the sword at first (turns out i was trying to grab the blade but the visuals made it difficult to discern that)
Yeah it is indeed a hack n slash, I got inspired by my fav game series Devil May Cry, but as I like Blade & Sorcery I decided to make a twist of the later with the DMC vibe. Actually I planned to have the skeleton ripped apart by bones but I hadn’t time to push to behavior change while they would lose a limb, so in the meantime they only lose their equipment (they are supposed to change stance if you steal their sword though and use the shield only, you can’t use shield atm) I had a headache with the physics layers to have the blade as trigger but grabbable, i thought people would take the handle anyway at least. Thanks for your feedback !
Hello there, quick comments as I was too short in time. Being solo, I didn’t want to care about “art”, so I used assets for that matter that you will find in the credits on the game’s page if you are curious. My goal on this jam was to find a way to make a Hack’n’Slash VR game which uses player’s rapid arm movements (as fast as a Beat Saber pro ;) ) to defeat the enemies in 3 waves + spoiler. I planned to be able to cut the skeletons in pieces but I ran out of time, so only the gear can be ripped (except for the spoiler again) I did this on 3 late evenings + sunday, I hope you will enjoy it :)
This game looks great straight off the bat, but I noticed it wasn't performing very well. I was getting 33ms frame-time (30fps). The sword was also very difficult to keep a hold of, and I think it would have been a better choice to make it a toggle grip instead. The skeletons didn't give much feedback when I slashed them either. I think the game was a fun experience, but it could have been even more fun if you fixed some of these problems.
It is strange your FPS was that low, it is running better than I expected with the build than in the editor.
Totally agree, I tried to add a grab toggle for the swords but it didn’t work as expected especially when trying to to steal another one. Actually I wanted to add an holster so the sword goes back directly if you release the grab preventing from loosing the sword somewhere. I had in mind to add skeleton archers you could steal the bow, no time. I thought about different was to manage the state machine for enemy feedback, this one was ok but the rate is not so good unfortunately.
