Game description
Solais is a narrative-driven game with multiple endings, taking its dramatic foundation from the tragic real-life events at the Fair Isle Lighthouse. Balance survival with duty through five engaging minigames and an immersive atmosphere.

Theme interpretation
We embraced the interpretation of the literal waves of the ocean by setting the scene on the harsh Scottish coastline. However, we managed to incorporate the theme in a couple of other ways as well. The title of our game, Solais, is Scottish Gaelic for "light." And while the quantum physics enthusiast on our team points out that light has a wave-partical duality, the concept of light waves was central to our design. Lastly, as a bonus, one of our minigames is very wave-oriented, as you'll find out (we won't give away the fun yet)!

Really good work. Very nice graphics and music! A little difficult to cook... the best thing about the game is the atmosphere

Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

This is a very creative submission! Loved the voice acting. Struggled on the cooking bit but otherwise the game was fantastic. The pixel art was brilliant.

Very cool game.

Love the art, love the morse code decoding, and most of the minigames. so cool to have real voices as well.

The cooking thing is a bit confusing, but there is so much diversity in this game it's amazing.

Love the storytelling.

I had to park it for now but will come back to it and try to finish it!

Awesome submission!

The scope of the art and the story is great! The pixel style is done very well. I enjoyed the morse code and radio-tuning minigames.

Smith slept with me mam :(
Otherwise 5/5, however I did get stuck just before the end (I think). I wasn't able to progress to the credits:

Great job - fantastic submission!

Developer

Yeah, Smith's known to do that. What a scoundrel. Thanks so much for playing and for the positive feedback! And yeah, in browser the game crashes at the end instead of going to credits but you did finish it - thanks so much!

Awesome art! a lot of content :)

Loved the voice acting!

The only thing - I was really stuck with the morse puzzle :D Let me know who to solve it or what am I doing wrong, I really want to continue the story :)

Developer(+4)

Thanks so much for playing!

As for the morse code, the target line at the top has segments highlighted in green. That segment needs to be completed in one go. So for the .- at the beginning, that would be one quick click and then a long hold click. Then when you let go, wait a moment for the letter to appear. Short clicks are '.' and longer-held clicks are '-'. Each letter has some space between it, so you only need to worry about each highlighted segment at a time. I hope that helps! And don't hesitate to reach back out, the tutorial system was made in a hurry near the end of development, and could definitely use some fleshing out!

Great work, the art is really good!

I enjoyed decoding the Morse code messages the most, and like the others I felt a bit stuck on the cooking minigame.

I thought the audio could use a bit more polish, but great work getting actual voice lines in!

Although I typically don't play narrative driven games like this, I thought the story was tastefully done and I appreciated the historic setting.

Again, really nice work!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much for playing our game, it means a lot to us! I definitely would like to make a more thorough cooking tutorial and edit the audio a bit more after the jam. Great feedback - thanks!

Wow what! What a lovely game. Wonderful attention to detail and I can tell you all really put your hearts into it. I especially enjoyed the morse code mini game. Excited to come back and finish the game hopefully tomorrow.

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much! At the moment the browser version is playable to the end, but the ending credits won't roll due to a bug we're still wrestling with. For the best experience, download it! Thanks again!

Stunning art + story, very impressive and an ambitious project for a jam! The voice acting and dialogue was super well done. Especially liked how the voices on the radio lead you to make certain decisions too.

I struggled with the cooking minigame but I'm glad the game was gentle and let me continue haha. I figure I missed something, as the pot would consistently overheat for me I think, while I prepared ingredients. Any hints would be appreciated :)

I also seem to have gotten stuck at the same spot as others mentioned, after reading the note in the lockbox. Would love to experience more, because the story is so sweet!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for playing, we greatly appreciate it! And yeah haha, the ingredients have to be added at certain times at different heats - a more thorough tutorial would have been a good idea. And that's a bummer you got stuck!! It seems to not do that when downloaded. However, it just rolls the credits after that so you pretty much finished it!

Ahh perfect, it did feel like a fitting place to end :)

Great job, and congratulations on making something so heartfelt. Lots of stuff to love, really enjoyed it.

A really beautiful game! I wasn't able to finish it due to time limitations but it looks amazing. I got to the cooking part. I think the pacing is just slightly off, everything takes a bit too much time. I wish I could just skip through some thing in order to actually play the game, all the fade ins and outs seem a bit unnecessary. But either way I was thoroughly captured by the story, music & the artwork. Great job!

WOW, interesting and fun minigames (i made the worst food ever), short but useful tutorials, stunning art. I got supper inmersed, nothing that i love more than playing and learning at the same time. I got stuck after opening the Elise’s birthday note though

Developer(+1)

Thank you so so much for taking the time out of your day to play our game and give us your feedback. It really means the world to me that you enjoyed it.
