Hey Guys, we just wanted to thank you all for voting and for getting our game so high! We are extremely thankful to everyone who played, and we're planning on making it into a full title in the future, seeing all the positive reception to our little game!

For now we're working on a free update that adds a few new fish and upgrades, a new Lighthouse npc and fixes a few issues that people pointed out, as well as rebalances a few things!
If you'd be interested in playing the full release when it comes out, we'll soon be publishing a steam page for wishlists and possibly a Kickstarter of sorts to allow us to work fulltime on the game and to put more content in. Stay tuned!
In the meantime - Barry x Benson

I felt bad that there is no average score, because some teams aimed for all categories, not just one. So I just scrapped the results page and made a table. I agree with "Mark" that "Overall" is questionable, but I still think "average" is a valuable score, so I decided to share it.
Thanks for letting us know! We were wondering where we'd place if the overall category was still being used. 14 is honestly way higher than we could've imagined. Again thanks for letting us know!
This is truly the best game I've played in this Game Jam and here's why:
From start to finish you can see how much work and love has been put into it, there's nice artwork, suitable soundtrack and good mechanics, player easily sympathizes with all the characters and the subtle plot we get is very enjoyable. At first seemingly simple game gives us an important mission which ends with a really satisfying result. There's no words to describe how satisfied I am with this experience, great job, I hope you guys win, and I'll be waiting for an official release <3
PROS:
+ Miss Cheesecake is an adorable name for a boat
+ I love all the character designs, especially the dirty rat Barry
+ boat has a reverse gear - very useful!
+ good variety of fish with nice graphics and funny names
+ you need to start moving the boat forward before being able to do any turns - that adds to the realism
+ I love the creative mechanic of catching fish here!
+ Great idea with making fish in the water different colors and shapes, we can actually differentiate them, which is not so common in the recent fishing games
+ Soundtrack is very pleasant, you know it’s looped (hah) but it doesn’t feel that repetitive nor annoying at all
+ Super cool that you added eels! Original!
+ Loved the little void fish quest, makes the game deeper than just about fishing for your own benefit
+ Chunky Tuna fan here
+ final ending of the game is very cute, very emotional, great feels
+ Loopy makes some adorable expressions and the Credits screen is adorable too, nothing’s overwhelming nor over the top
CONS:
-while in menu, sliders that’s supposed to turn off the ambient sounds or music don’t do its job, only master works, so you can’t get rid of the seagull scream effect until you start the game (that’s when everything starts working)
-check marks on all the items in the store - I was confused at first if they’re selected or if I need to select them (I did and they turned green, but I think I’d like empty boxes more, or a box saying „select”)
SUGGESTIONS:
- add an option that would allow player to go back to the previous hint in the tutorial (I skipped one by accident and I don’t want to redo the whole thing)
- make the deeper waters darker in color?
- It would be nice if the characters in the stores said something, maybe give them little quotes to say every few times we go to their stores?
- Maybe add some occasional seaweed or coral or trash we could catch on purpose or not?
- Boat damage?
- Squids or octopuses? They attack the boat?
- Random lighthouse for the scenery? Make it haunted? (I mean there’s one thing that kinda looks like one, but it would need to be a little tilted for me to recognize it for sure)
- A store that sells new boats for some crazy expensive prices and then the beaver could have separate updates for those? I don’t think I saw the option of changing the whole boat often in games of this kind
- There could be one a spot on the map where neither radar nor GPS works and Loopy could comment on that - maybe near the haunted lighthouse! Nothing more spooky than that, but just a little Easter Egg?
- Option in the settings to change the color of the boat?
- Maybe decrease value of fish a little bit? Earning money seems too easy for me. Or add different difficulty levels? One for new fishermen and one for the pro ones? So if someone finds themselves getting bored of the easy difficulty starting automatically after the tutorial, they could make the game more engaging for themselves?
- Maybe after finishing the final quest give the player an option to either leave to the menu and let the rodents live happily ever after OR to stay and get silly rich? Chris could have a little house on his little island that’s now connected to others?
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT GAMING EXPERIENCE!
OMG, thank you for such extensive comment! Some of the suggestions are great, and we will surely implement them, such as boat customisation. We're glad you liked our game!
Holy essay! Seriously tho, thank you much for the kind words and suggestions!
very cute <3
amazing work and love put into this! if i had more time I would play it all day!
Well, that was chill, cozy and fun.
Tanks! Glad you stuck with it to the end :)
WOW! I would buy this game on steam! Absolutely fantastic from start to finish! Amazing art, story, gameplay, and charm. I love the self aware comment Chris makes about repeating 8 sentences. Exploring the the map was very fun (Totally not me waiting until I have every upgrade to buy sonar). I guess the only thing I would want is more secret locations or items scattered around the map. Bravo!
Thanks! Thats so many good words it is kinda crazy xD. We had some thoughts about creating those secret locations or more convoluted questlines however that seemed too big of a scope for the jam already and we didn’t want to overdo it.
First of all, thanks so much for the kind words! We’re actually planning to keep working on the game after jam, and ofc, there’ll be more secrets, maybe new nps... 😉
I liked the artistic direction. It gives a reel good feeling. Cool game, nice entry.
I really enjoyed the game and thought the main mechanic is so well thought out and like how when you go to the edge of the map the tides push you back in, keeps the immersion.
Haha thanks! I knew spending a bit more time to make this tide instead of just invisible wall was a good idea. It could be more subtle with the way it moves the boat tho... We will surely work on that.
This is crazy good! I just spent over an hour playing it, and it felt like no time. I completely immersed myself in the game. This is a full title already!
Hey man! Thanks for the words - we really appreciate the spent time, i feel like the full title would need some more polishing touches however with the current reception if we get the time we can probably think more about further development - If you could tell like, what parts of the game you liked the most it would also be appreciated : )
I can't believe this game hasn't gotten more attention. I saw Ezra playing it on his stream. I completed the entire game. Soooo well done! I would 100% play a full version of this game, please make it! I'll wishlist it right now, early access, whatever! Make this a full game.
Thank you so much! We actually plan to make it a full game if we can find some time to do it.
Man, with the reception we’ve gotten so far it’d be remiss of us not to do it. We’re a bit crunched on time currently, so it might take some time, so we genuinely hope the game gets out there a bit more, dare I even say mark’s top 20?
I loved it. It was so much fun playing through all the very meaningful upgrades and constantly evolve the strategy based on it.
(even though I didn't really understand how to use the bait)
It was also a lot of fun to play a game that is so similar to our own and yet so different. A lot of the decisions you made, we discussed and went a different direction, Making it especially interessting to see, how great everything comes together in your game!
I see, I could've made the wording on the upgrade a bit clearer. The fish food and bait passively increase the chance that a fish you catch is an L or XL, which are simply worth more money. Thank you so much for your comment tho, and I can't wait to see how your game is different from ours when I get the time to play it.
This is so much fun, genuinely. Love the artstyle (especially the fish sprites) and the music is extremely catchy
Overall great game. Amazing how much content you where able to fit into the game.
We had quite a similar concept but still feels like different games.
Thanks! I'll surely check out your submission.
This game was really fun and a perfect length! I love how the theme is tied into the fishing mechanic. The ending was really enjoyable and I didn't see it coming at all. I especially liked the gooberfish :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the ending, considering I only implemented it at like 3 am on saturday. Also I'll pass on the nice word about gooberfish to our art team - it was their idea.
This game sucks in like alcohol middle aged men. This game just made me skip like 40 minutes while trying to catch shark and upgrade my boat. Really enjoyed this experience. I did not experience any downsides whatsoever. All in all, very pleasant way to spend your time.
Really cute artstyle! Love the way the mechanic fits the theme!
Cool! A fishing mechanic that works perfectly with the theme! To me there is too much context around the game for a 4-day jam, next time I suggest to focus only on the single mechanic that is the center of the game! Good Job!
Thanks for the feedback, man! If we were to redo the game what would you recommend we focus on? And what would you have us leave behind?
Quite a relaxing game, I ended up getting lost and not catching any fish however I found the graphics, sound and concept to be quite nice!
Did you try getting the radar upgrade? It’s rather cheap and it allows you to see your position on the map in real time to avoid moments like this.
