Cool idea!

I liked that each challenge made the level feel a bit fresher.

Submitted

level design is pretty interesting, love the idea behind some of them!

Submitted

Love the art style and the unique twists to the level :)

Submitted

Really cute ! The controls are a bit stiff but overall the it's a fun twist to the most famous level of the video game history

Pico <3

great demake with a twist

Submitted

I love how this game is done

Submitted

Great idea! Very clever twist on the theme

Interesting idea, the death penalty is pretty harsh because quite frankly the loop is the interesting part not the vanilla level which you end up needing to do all the time.

Developer

Very good point. The win/loss conditions probably deserved more attention than I had capacity for.

Thanks for playing, I appreciate the useful and valid feedback! :)

Made with PICO-8, cool! I played through several level variants by restarting the game, but it's quite hard to clear 5 stages in a row without mushrooms and extra lives.

Submitted

The concept is good but I didn't like the execution of the level.

Submitted

Fun twist on a famous game :)

Hey, fellow pico-8 jammer :)

I love the idea! Adds a nice twist to a known game! I would've preferred having 3 lives rather than instantly resetting, but it is what it is.

Congrats on the submission! It was very fun :)

Developer

Thanks for checking out my game! I love the limitations of pico-8 for a game jam :)

Yes, I think I missed a trick by not letting players experience the modifiers for longer. Maybe I'll fix it post jam (he says every year and never updates his games)... :/

It's ok! As long as you're learning and having fun, that's what matters

I still liked what you did a lot :)

Submitted

this is CLASSIC!
If possible, can you please vote my game and leave a comment too?

Very clever twist on the theme. For some reason it seams familiar...  :). I also love it was made in pico-8!

Submitted

Nice game! I liked the different twists, but most of them were pretty difficult.

Submitted

Fun idea. Love the variations all adding together.

Submitted

Definitely missing that classic audio, but I love the almost roguelike randomness to it.

Developer

Yup! One of these days I'll schedule time for audio. I'm hoping next year's theme is "silence".

Thanks for playing! :)

Submitted

For sure! You should check out the game my team posted as well. Looking for more reviews. :)

This level seams familiar.. mhhhh
Nice twists you added there pal. I like it :D

Developer

Not sure what you mean. It's a totally original character and level design...

Submitted

That was a fun spin on SMB's World 1-1, adding up all the effects makes it closer to a Kaizo Mario level!

Submitted

Interesting idea, making Mario 1-1 sort of rogue-like-y like this! A mushroom and maybe a few sounds and the 1-1 song would be nice to have. I do like how you somehow made the art arguably a little better than the original game despite it having to be being twice as crunchy, it feels sort of cute. Death feels a little punishing though, having to restart from basic 1-1, because if you die on the revisions, it sort of just reverts to playing a worse controlled 1-1 we're already very familiar with over and over again.

Developer

Yeah, I agree, it's a litte (very!) rough around the edges. I immediately regretted my decision to try and make a platformer from scratch!

Thanks for the kind feedback though! :)
