I really like that your entry stands out as a novel game. I enjoyed the writing and also the illustrations of the different characters you made to go along with the text. The music also fit with the mood and vibe. I think with more time, there could be even more deeper immersion with the story - I'm so curious about this world, the lore of this universe, the background of my companions - who are they? Why are we here together ( I assume we stole something) ? And who exactly IS the visitor? Good job!
As a fan of storytelling in games, I must say, you write REALLY WELL, truly excellent. I loved the narrative presented here, and what’s even more impressive is that it fits perfectly and naturally with the theme.
Since this is a visual novel, I don’t think I have much to suggest in terms of gameplay, maybe just some sound effects to make the atmosphere richer and the story more immersive. Perhaps a typewriter effect could increase the tension, along with sound effects tied to what we’re reading at specific moments in the narrative (but of course, with an option to reveal the entire text at once for more impatient readers).
The art definitely played a huge role in the immersion, as it’s fantastic. I’d say it was one of the most stylish games I’ve played in the past few jams I’ve participated in.
Overall, a great visual novel with a captivating story that balances beautifully and enchantingly between well-crafted writing and the brutality it represents in its lines. Congratulations on the game and good luck with the jam!
Thank you so much for all your observations and for your ideas to improve immersion.
It truly makes me happy and deeply motivates me to know that you enjoyed my way of writing and storytelling — it definitely encourages me to keep improving and try to give you something even better in the future.
Thank you!
Really nice game. I especially like this type of game because it really does feel like it tries to attack you indirectly. There's really nothing to criticize--other than perhaps maybe i needed a bit more, and perhaps maybe a visual novel isn't the best option for a game jam, haha. the music was super immersive, and the art was really unsettling to look at, in a good way, of course. The tie to theme is quite direct, which is solid. I really do feel bad for some of the characters, though. You really write brutality well.
Good game.
Keep it up.
The character portraits and background art were nicely done. I really liked the character designs overall, especially the visitor. The music was fitting for the visuals, and the story was short but interesting (great for a small game like this).
My only two critiques were that there could have been a bit more sound effects (something to indicate someone was dying at least) and the character names could be placed next to the character portraits or on top of the dialogue. I got confused on the second question because of this.
Really nice art style and overall design! The visuals are lovely, though I think the UI and text could use a bit more color variation to make them pop. Visual novels aren’t usually my preferred genre, but you’ve crafted a genuinely interesting storyline here.
The mysterious stranger fits perfectly as the uninvited guest and also Halloween, making the theme connection feel natural and well thought out. A solid entry overall!
I love the artstyle, well done on that. The music is the perfect fit, it adds a nice touch to the game and makes it great overall.
Looks like itch went down and my previous comment didn't get saved.
So in short- I loved the artstyle, the fact you used multiple music tracks was a nice touch, and the writing really fit the atmosphere. The stranger was a great character, and it always felt like he had an upper hand.
I liked the hint of "Disco Elysium" in the atmosphere.
Over all- one of the most stylish games in this jam! Keep up the good work!
Art was fantastic, I didn't notice I had followers to talk to 2 questions in, good questions! Overall, well done!
