Welcome to Make Visual Novel Assets! Jam
This jam is two weeks long, and your goal is simple: make something that helps people make visual novels.
Art, audio, writing resources, scripts, templates, tools, tutorials—if itās an asset that helps VN creators ship, it belongs here.
Click on the rules below for details and explanations!
Your submission has to be an asset. What counts as an asset?
For the sake of this jam, we consider the following āassetsā:
- Visual resources (sprites, backgrounds, UI packs, Live2D models, icons, VFX, etc.).
- Audio resources (voice acting, sound effects, music, loops, songs, etc.).
- Written narrative resources (scripts, screenplays, outlines, templates, prompts, etc.).
- Code/logical resources (RenāPy utilities, plugins, scripts, tools, shaders, editors, etc.).
- Educational resources (tutorials, lectures, video demos, explainers, docs, etc.).
- Collections/compilations of any of the above.
Your submission must do at least one of the following for visual novel developers.
- Simplify development for the creator.
- Improve the experience for readers/players.
- Streamline team workflows and production processes.
- Solve a problem that VN developers regularly face.
No generative AI usage in any aspect of your submission.
- Generative AI cannot be used to create any part of your asset.
- Generative AI cannot be used to write, illustrate, script, or produce components of your submission.
- Do not use AI for thumbnails, placeholders, or ātemporaryā versions.
- If you are using third-party resources, be mindful that this rule extends to those assets too.
Your submission must include a usage license or terms.
You can choose your own license, but you must include one on your submission page. Hereās a common example:
Your submission must include a demonstration.
- A screenshot of it in use.
- A compilation graphic showing multiple samples/states.
- An animated GIF for motion/VFX assets.
- A demo recording for audio assets.
- A video clip of it in action.
- A short tutorial showing how to use it.
- Story assets can use an excerpt, outline, or sample pages.
Submissions must be freely available until March 1st, 2025.
If you want to make it paid later, thatās fine.
Work can begin at any time, but the asset must have its first-ever release during the submission window.
New (or never-before-released) assets only.
Erotic/pornographic 18+ content should not be directly submitted to the jam.
If you want to submit a SFW version and link to an 18+ version on your own page, thatās fine.
Please keep the jam submission itself safe for the platform.
$100 goes to the highest voted submission, by quantity among all submitters.
Everyone else gets street cred, redeemable for one (1) virtual high five.
Only people who submit can vote. If the winner canāt accept, it goes to the next highest and so on.
We are seeking sponsors for Make Visual Novel Assets! Jam. If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact us at
Stella@RemortStudios.com.
What kinds of assets do you want to see the most?
Tools and utilities, VN UI packs, audio packs, background/sprite packs, scripting templates, tutorials, and workflow helpers tend to have the biggest community impact.
If it helps VN creators ship faster or better, itās a good fit.
Can I collaborate with other people?
Yes. Teams are welcome. Just make sure your submission page clearly credits contributors and includes your license/terms.
What if Iām not sure whether my thing counts as an asset?
If itās something a VN developer could reuse in their own project, or a resource that meaningfully teaches or accelerates VN creation, it counts.
