Yes - I'm new to game jams!

How does your game fit the theme?
There is no way to "just" get started because the start button gets broken. The ending cutscene also picks up this theme again.

That was a very fun game and I especially loved the intro! There were a lot of unique levels and mechanics but I can definitely see this game getting a lot more with future updates! I'm also very grateful for the checkpoints, they helped a lot. One suggestion is that while the respawning screen was very cool and well done, I did wish there was a way to speed it up after seeing it a few times haha! Other than that, it was a perfect game, especially for a first game jam!

Developer

thank you very much!

I will update this game for sure! the loading time for the death screen actually already does automatically speed up the more deaths you have, so now's the question whether you found the "final" speed after about 6-ish deaths slow or the speeds from deaths numbers 1-6 too slow

Submitted(+1)

That's really cool, I guess I didn't realize it much at the time because I didn't die quickly in succession but after going through your game again I noticed the difference! I think it's well done but for me, I feel like on the harder sections if you're dying multiple times in a row, the death animation combined with the screen switch might slow players down a bit. Maybe if there was a toggle option that showed up after you died a few times that would allow you to speed it up a bit, just so you can still see the loading screen for the first few times, but are given the option to speed it up. But again, I'm probably the only one that feels this way, I've played a few platformers like Celeste and it was important to have fast respawn times in that type of game because you end up dying a lot, so I could just be more used to that style over the respawn screens.

Somehow the last games are playing have been consistently bangers and this is no exception, i really liked this game, the concept is really creative and the execution is nice, the platforming feel good, responsive, and the levels make you think but dont get you stuck, Good job

Feel free to go play my game as well i would love the feeedback

Developer

thank you very much for the feedback! 💜

sadly, the rating phase ended at 7 am for me and I just woke up (it's 8 am for me right now), and secondly I'm on vacation so I don't have my PC/laptop with me :/ sorry would've loved to play your game in the rating phase

I will try to remember to play it after I get home in a few days!

Fun: Wow, great work, the platforming was smooth, and the idea that you can interact with things using the mouse, very good, the dash system is similar to my game, though I didn't like that the dash is also the space button

presentation: amazing art, great sound design, the light was good, beautiful

creativity: fantastic stuff, the platform ideas, interacting with the mouse, the end cut scene, amazing

This has to be one of my favorites so far

Developer

thank you! I am considering continuing this project after the jam :)

I'm on vacation right now, which means no PC/laptop for me, so I sadly can't rate your game before the rating phase is over :/ sorry

Interesting idea, nice mechanics and funny dialogues, hard cristals(I forgot their name). I like it.

I would appreciate it if you rated our game

Developer(+1)

thank you! I called them icon gems haha

sadly I'm not able to play your game before the rating phase is over, because I don't have access to neither my laptop nor PC, as I am not home for summer vacation

which is a bummer because your game looks promising :/ sorry

Its a great game. The levels, the art , the story and everything else is amazing! It is polished incredibly well and from what I have tried out so far in this jam this is probably the best game I have come across. Great game and truly inspiring!

Submitted(+1)

Wow this is extremely good! The mechanics are awesome! The story is good, so well polished! The art looks good! This is amazing! WELL DONE! This is an amazing game!

Everything about this game--the art, the levels, the dialogue, the sound--feel so polished! The only issue I really had was that I accidentally clicked back into a level I just finished and couldn't find a way back to the level select menu.

I am super impressed by this, so well done!

i love the introduction of the game, very original

i feel that everything is well thought, the enemies being ui elements, the saving areas, the story, good job!

Amazing storytelling and game idea! Very polished. I love the mix between keyboard and mouse usage. Have you played Toggle yet? It's not mine, just a gem I found in this jam. That game also had keyboard + mouse controls in an interesting way, worth to check out!

I dont' have much to say regarding feeback because I think you did an amazing job, but I think the control scheme wasn't entirely comfortable because of the directional dash. I like the level design, and though some levels are challenging, I think the one with the balancing pole broke a bit of the platforming rhythm of the game.

Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this one. Great job!

Developer

thank you! yes, I have played Toggle - I think it was liz who recommended it in the Discord. quickly became one of my favorites in the jam lol

Submitted(+1)

You did a pretty good work on this game. I haven't found any bugs and the controls were all pretty smooth and nice! Also I lived the fact that the story was about fixing the game!

Submitted(+1)

Love the amount of polish you put it this game!

Submitted(+1)

First off I have to say the level of polish on this game is just amazing, the music and sound effects fit perfectly and the use of light is great.

Some parts maybe were a bit more annoying than challenging, specifically the see-saw platform with how the controls would go out of the screen needing you to go back and controls the platform while barely being able to see it. And the part right after that with the gear on the disappearing platforms, but I did notice running and jumping into it would send it flying so I got it faster that way.

But other than that it was a fantastic game, platforming based around UI elements is such a good idea!

This is the most creative one I've played so far! I gave you 5 stars for the presentation as well, the art is super nice, and the intro was really funny. I did experience some weird camera issues, and the movement didn't feel very smooth, but it’s a really good game!! Very impressive for a first game jam! Also, it'd be appreciated if anyone gave my game a try! :)

Submitted(+1)

This is your first game jam? Well done! 5 stars for presentation. Creative idea as well. I felt like the movement wasn't very smooth but that's to be expected in exchange for this much polish with this little time.

Submitted(+1)

Super creative and highly polished. The starting cutscene was so good! The movement, all the sound effects and dialogue, and the ui all felt responsive and snappy. The simple mechanics and puzzles are well explored. The movement system itself is slightly unintuitive - mapping the dash to the jump button is somewhat unintuitive as there is an existing understanding of space = up movement. also that gear pushing puzzle over disappearing blocks is extremely annoying lol.

Developer(+1)

thank you for the feedback! could you tell me how dashing controls/mapping could be refined? I did buy Celeste (which I heard had dashing) on the Summer Sale but hadn't gotten the time to play it yet...

Submitted(+1)

I think it can be as simple as simply mapping it to the Shift button - as pressing jump should always give some upward velocity. In the game I'm usually moving towards the right/left , so clicking Space (or any jump button) in succession gives very different movement feedback, which is unintuitive. Celeste also greatly rewards the horizontal dash -> wall grab combo, while your game seems to favour upwards/diagonally upwards dashes (which are basically double jumps), with horizontal dashes resulting in falling into pits - so in this specific game you could ditch the dash mechanic entirely and have a strong double jump with just the jump button, and keep the shift for speeding up horizontally.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked this. The concept of you needing to repair the game  with all the widgets and stuff being sentient or obstacles was pretty creative. Also, I must say, you made a pretty nice, fairly polished game for this being your first game jam!

Submitted(+1)

This is incredible. still trying to get all the collectibles

Developer(+1)

thank you! good luck with that hehe

let me know when(/if) you got them :)

Submitted(+1)

i love the theme of playing with the UI and the fourth wall break. the intro is so good. the game could use some polishing in UX but overall really good entry! Cool detail when u first started the game and they dont let u quit lol

Developer(+1)

thank you! glad you discovered one of the details :D

Submitted(+1)

the start is a bit misleading for what the game is but bar from that the presentation is very good, quite fun game but I did not find myself wanting to complete the game as the level I was on felt tedious and unforgiving for messing up. so

Developer

thanks for your feedback! could you describe which level it was?

Submitted(+1)

the one with the moving platform that you need to bring to the end

Developer

alright, thanks!
