[DEVLOG] Working on a Fantasy Medieval Squad RPG — New video!

Hey everyone!

I’m developing a fantasy medieval Squad Tactical RPG, where you manage your guild, recruit heroes, explore dangerous areas, take on missions, and try to become the strongest guild in the kingdom.

I just uploaded a new devlog video, and I’d love to hear what you think.

🎥 Video:
New Squad Tactical RPG – Basic Attack Combat System - Prototype Video 2

What’s shown in the video

  • Procedural item creation

  • Loot system

  • Inventory system

  • Attributes system

  • Bonus effects when equipping/unequipping items

  • And more early gameplay progress…

     for checking it out!
I’m happy to be part of the community and I’ll make sure to look at your projects too.
    Thanks for watching!

This project looks really good man, congrats!

I wanted to ask a bit more about the gameplay: will we be able to control several party members simultaneously, or will the game focus on switching between them as needed? What kind of titles would you compare it to — something in the style of Dragon Age, perhaps? And what about the setting? Are you aiming for a medieval or more fantastical world?

I'm also curious about the development progress so far. At what stage is the game currently, and do you have an idea of when a demo might be available? Really looking forward to seeing how it evolves!

Hi! Thanks so much for your message.

Regarding your questions: the setting will be medieval fantasy, with a world full of creatures, magic, and exploration.

For the squad control, I tested several approaches to make it as fun as possible without losing the tactical aspect. I didn’t want to go for turn-based combat, so I went with a system where you can switch between your heroes with keys 1–2–3, and the hero you leave behind automatically switches to a companion mode controlled by the AI. Each class (mage, archer, or warrior) has different behaviors to support you in combat, making the squad feel dynamic and strategic at the same time.

Right now I’m getting close to the vertical slice stage; there are still a few systems left to finish, but the plan is to publish something on itch.io as soon as possible to get feedback and then move toward completing the DEMO so everyone can try it out.

Thanks again for your interest! It really motivates me.

Just checked out your post and wow, the progress really shows! The AI allies and the strategic combat are already giving the project its own personality. And even though the video is short, it does a great job showing off the core gameplay... definitely leaves you wanting more!

Thanks a lot! Really glad to hear the progress is showing. 😄

There’s still a ton to polish, but seeing people enjoy even these early systems is super motivating. The AI allies and combat have been fun to experiment with, and I can't wait to show more as things come together.
