Denaya is the voice of mercy of the Guard. While the men brandish swords on the training field, she prays for them and learns new defensive spells. Her strength lies not in her physical strength, but in her ability to keep up the spirits of those who are ready to give up.
Her main weakness and at the same time a source of strength is her secret love for Lorin and the hope that it is mutual. She accompanies him on his assignments with a heavy heart, realizing that prayers may not be enough against what they face - something unknown, but much more dangerous than the guards' routine of patrolling, catching poachers and resolving domestic disputes.
