That's almost verbatim how it plays out in my mind too. Like I said, I haven't tried the "directly into renpy" approach yet, but I get the feeling that I'd end up unconsciously letting the story be led along by the script rather than the script becoming a vehicle for the story, if that makes sense.

To contextualize my question: I've recently released the first episode of my debut VN, which in the very beginning, was conceived as a much less ambitious idea for an AO3 fic. As such, my rough draft was written in Word in the format you would typically expect of an ordinary novel. However, after making the decision to go the VN route instead, the original prose changed A LOT in order to work with the art, transitions, and what not. This led me to wonder how much different the story might've been if I'd written my original draft directly into my renpy script, rather than preparing it as an ordinary novel first. I was wondering if anyone else has experimented with that in their own writing, and what you ultimately decided was most conducive to getting your story "right." Any other thoughts on the side?

Yo. Plugging my debut project, "Umineko No Naku Koro Ni: Excurse of the Golden Witch" after a year of development. It's a WIP kinetic novel in the style of the original games, telling a story about several minor characters from the original setting that we never learned much about.

Episode 1 is about 46.4k words long and features a ton of original hand-made art. Two more episodes of similar size are in the works, to be relase over the next couple of years. Come give it a look. You know you wanna. :p

Heyo. Joined a few days ago to publish an Umineko fangame. I hyperfixate on minor characters WAY too much and felt absolutely compelled to force a game centered on my pfp into existence, even though I have no experience in game development. Other than that, I basically do nothing but breathe caffeine and cheeseburgers all day. Nice to meet ya'll.  Come say hi sometime. :)

Excurse of the Golden Witch is an outside of the catbox "What if?" fantasy starring Lunon, Lenon, Sanon, and Leion;  mostly set one a year after the Rokkenjima Incident.

The full game will be released gradually in three parts, and contains collaborations with a growing number of talented human artists!

It is STRONGLY recommended that the player have finished the original Umineko story before playing. Completing at least Episode 7 is probably the bare minimum. Please enjoy!

Android controls are standard renpy "swipe" controls! Swiping up enters the game menu and doubles as a "back" button in many screens!
