Great style with really elegant gameplay. What a delight when it all clicked together

Not many games require you to become fluent in a gibberish language in 20 seconds, but I got a favorable outcome in the end! Smart gameplay, great presentation

Very cute and very nostalgic, I had a great time! Just gotta press start!

Super smart game. I loved it, even though I can't reliably parry in any game ever. Would play a whole series of these In Media Res Turn-Based Action Command combat puzzles

I love the idea of a Perfect Run game in 20 seconds! A little bit beyond my skill level with all the mechanics, but I could see people getting really into the precision of the techniques

The narrative adds a lot to a simple mechanic, which just enough variations on gameplay to keep it interesting. I still think a Thunder Margarita looks and sounds delicious

I really liked the structure of the puzzle, lots of bits of information hidden all over that build into smaller solutions that build into a big solution. Couldn't quite get the ending, but enjoyed what I was able to accomplish!

I like how each harder difficulty level gradually forces you to use more of the mechanics, there's a lot of technique in this focused game. Sorry to the cat for plunging into the water so much T.T

Really fun idea, I could see myself getting really into memorizing the combos and shaving off seconds from each order. Gotta lean into that sexy gameplay!

So much going on in the 20 seconds, it's a jam-packed jam game! Easy to pick up, difficult to master, fun to play throughout

Great concept, a fun distillation of rage games into a funny 20 second loop! I like the presentation as well

I enjoyed being an annoying fly! Nice simple gameplay loop, great art style!

Great style, great fun! I like sprinting through, but it really annoys me how you can sprint so much you die

thank you stranger, who I did not pay to say that!

Thank you for playing!

Oh that's great! Well done, and glad you found a play-style you liked

Thanks for playing! 148 deaths is really good!

Out of curiosity, how many bosses did you beat? Cause there are 6 in the game

Thank you for playing! It's not on purpose, but it is known. You've discovered a speedrunning strat!

Thanks, and good luck if you come back to it!

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!

For the code, pretty much every behavior had its own routine (for example, the screen clearing ultimate attack that every boss does at 20 seconds, or shooting in radial/line/direct patterns, or movement, or slams, etc) and then I layered those together. I wanted to make sure every boss had at least two orthogonal behaviors (so if you get used to one behavior, something else will happen to distract you), and there was a good mix of predictable patterns (I spent a lot of time on wolfram alpha tweaking sine functions) and surprising patterns that required you to learn how a boss worked.

If you want to see in more detail, I did a dev stream on my Twitch channel and the VOD is here:

Thanks for playing!
