Maybe exploring shapes. while playing i had to rotate one of the boxes side ways to move it through the door. and the complexity of the game can get more complicated if you included a map and didn't allow blocks of different colors to enter the same room. But you could also explore shapes instead of colors for the doors.

Here is another game i think it doing something similar. not to discourage you but to hopefully inspire some new ideas.

nice work. i like the idea of falling off the platform to get ahead. Feels like i am being rewards for taking the cowards way out. (figure speech, referencing Call Of Duty).

I am dissapointed there is not music rating. The music was really beautiful here. The first time ive heard this kind of intimate piece in these game jams. great job for being bold, i will put 5 stars on the sound design just because of the music. 😆 Haven't even played the game yet, just listening to the piano.

Wow...just wow. you have something here. I gave full marks and four starts only because the red rooms hurt my eyes. I recommend changing that, the red is too aggressive. But i started playing the game, next thing i knew an hour passed by. The music really brought that game together. Great job!  I enjoy stacking the blocks and get the key at the top of the room. This has the potential to be a very relaxing game that you play just to chill. Reminds me of when you give a crying baby blocks. There is nothing to solve, its just a slice of life puzzle that doesn't end. because the journey is all that matters. Again great job.

I like these types of games. simple controls but i usually end up just running away in a circle, while the spawning gets out of control. Like the idea of weapon upgrades too. The level design was my only issue with the game. The level does not use patterns and colors in a contrasting enough manner to show clear separation between barriers and the floor. But after getting accustomed to the layout of the level, i ran around in circles trying to make progress and that was fun.

This could workout well if you matched the power ups with the level of enemies spawning in. so crazy weapons with wider area of damage.

GOOD WORK!

Agreed! planning to explore the mechanic a lot more. i think the mechanic has the potential to be friendly to the visually impaired.

Curious, how far along did you get? or did you just give up on figuring things out?

Noted. will include that next time.

Great job. I think you did a great job with making the gameplay smooth and tight. But too many buttons for my taste. I prefer simplicity. Also some of the required button combinations were difficult to reach. Like having to jump, then hold c while pressing "w" was so difficult, i thought my hands were going to cramp. The level design made it difficult to realize what i could jump on and i couldn't understand the difference between background objects and midground objects i could interact with. The fire save feature is great and the sound effect probably stand out in a good way as the second most impressive thing. I did not jump into the boss battle when i was already struggling just to press the buttons. good job with the music too, too often audio is the unsung hero on most games.

I think the strongest point of this game was how you included the game controls in the game play. so i could learn as i progressed into various obstacles that would require me to use a particular button. That made the game fun. if you could figure out more ergonomic button combinations, i think the idea of a level that tells you what to do by introducing new tools/features could be fun.

NIce work with the characters and the designs. i struggled with freezing the chocolate in mid air to use a platform. This was very creative but every time i land on the chocolate, i slid off.  Nice use of the chocolate. Not sure what the staff was for though. I though the staff was initially a fire to melt the chocolate. 😅

Absolutely agreed! The graphics and art are absolutely stunning and fit the project page design perfectly. The mechanics are tight and finely tuned, like nothing I’ve seen before. I’d be pretty nervous to be in the same room/chat with such a talented and supportive team. I wish the artists and team members had social media so we could follow their amazing work. It would be an honor to stay updated on the creations of such a gifted team. Honestly, I feel unworthy to even share this compliment.

*Participants may start designing before the jam begins. Time is not one of the main constraints but an optional one.

What is Character Design?

the process of creating an appearance, personality, and defining traits of a character that reflect personality and story objectives. The goal being to make characters that are unique and memorable.

Starting The Creative Constraints Game Jam Series Next Week

About

The purpose this jam is to encourage creativity. When access increases in any industry, quality usually decreases, resulting in the industry/space become saturated with knockoffs and copycats. Therefore this jam is an attempt to fight back against the idea that "Good artists copy, great artists steal" by Pablo Picasso. There is more Access to creative tools now more then ever, so this is your opportunity to try something unique and experimental. Everything will be judged on a scale of creativity.

who is this game jam for?

1. Story teller/Narrative designers (cycle starts)

*2. GDD (Game Design Document)

3. Level Designers

4. Character Designers

5. asset designers

6. 2d animators

7. Sound designers

8. Game mechanics (Programmers/Developers)

9. Game Developers (cycle end)

Hopefully by the end of a full cycle you will have potential team members or collaborators to continue making games with. This is to trully turn making games into a collaborative event. When cycle is over winning participants will be shared on X/twitter and Itchio community.

The focus next week is on Game Design Documents.  Great for game designers, zine artist, illustrators and anyone that wants develop games without being a developer. Feel free to try it out!

sure for clarification here is a bad and good example:

BAD: "The cat in the hat plays all day."
This has more than two words that rhyme. It has four words.

GOOD: "The cat in the hat plays with a ball"
This has two words that rhyme which is perfect.

hope this helps

Still new to twitter so open to any advice. Here is the post:
https://x.com/Clyph_Drops/status/1934629607677870467

Sure, Here is my twitter  https://x.com/clyph_drops . probably not going to promote on facebook. i will link you in the post on monday June 16. I plan to refer to you as Dragonhearted76 and link to your page. Let me know if you prefer a different name.

SIDE NOTE: while editing the video for the game i realized this would be an amazing drone game. where the player is operating a land drone that can grapple and self detonate. However if you bump into objects too hard on collision you will explode. The objective is to not get noticed while navigating through the terrain to the detonation point. within an allotted time in various environments (ex. cities, farms, rainforest (with animals, military bases etc.)

The focus next week is on Narrative Designers.  Feel free to try it out!

https://itch.freezing.top/jam/cc-narrative-jam

I was listening to this while working on a project. felt my focus and productivity increase. Love minimal ambient work like this.  I also think this works for film as well.

Well done!

ah, and Noted on the recording front, no worries. Here's the link if you have the time:
https://clyphdrops.itch.io/tap-to-loop

and will check out the links later. looks like i missed out on an exciting ost jam

Mario Kart Intro? for a second i was waiting for beat drop like im about to zone out to lofi trap music like "trappin in japan" on youtube. Nice ambience, creates the mood of someone who is drugged or momentarily impared at night, near a vibrant park or busy city shopping district. The clock tick referencing some deep trauma perhaps as the character tries to navigate.

Actually maybe the location is a arcade in a board walk during a festival where no one attended or after the festival. and then clean music comes in which throws me off. This is definitly interesting, every new subtle change add to the character of the mood, never know what to expect.

Nice work!

not bad, good. They are well arranged, and simple enough to compliment visuals but the timbre are interesting enough to grab my attention. This is very good, feels like i am watching a movie. This would really reminds me of Batman the animated series from the 90s.

Each track seems related as well,  didn't even realize it was more then one song.

Well done across the board. Sounds like you came from the film industry with these productions.

Analogue styx, Definitly hear the chiptune music genre. is the name a reference to the "river styx"? can't say im too experienced enough with chiptune to give constructive feedback, but still sounds good to me.

Erie Echo was pretty cool. would have like to hear the percussion more.

Strategic Stridor reminded me of arcade street fighter or gameboy advanced street fighter.

So i guess the future past theme is explored through retro games through the lens of the present day, also known as the future in context. A game where the future is a throwback or maybe a mundane future where people don't know games are until they discover a retro game. Kind of cowboy bebop episode with faye discovering old vhs tapes. but i digress.

Nice work!

Interesting start. immediately i can tell it sounds like the rhythm was done live and not by a machine. Correct me if i am off/wrong. Recommend people where headphone for Brigidiseele, there is something interesting happening in the low end. Verify creative, feels like i am at a conceptual art piece. The simplicity works well for games as well.

A lot of great sound design in this. Is this all presets or custom made?

Also who is "we" and where can i find this WeatherM.

The transition from Brigidiseele to Appetite emotion reasoning is like going from a black and white 2d experimental animation to a motion picture filled with vivid colors. Great selection and juxtaposition. And more unique sounds. As  a sound designer i love those easter eggs. I actually am working on an game/tool that will allow sound designers to creatively record sounds and  share sounds recorded with others. Let me know if your interested.

Great work. this was fun and interesting. Reminds me of the atmosphere when kanye released Yeezus, which was more contemporary art then music on regular people. and seeing their faces not know what to think for the first time as they are confronted with something they have not been informed on about how to receive the music.

Ancient Boss
This reminded me of star wars as well. The war that started in space and then continued the battle on a desert planet. I thought i heard some Egyptian melodies in this. The thumbnail really fits as well. A lot of tension though, and every time i expect a release around the corner it just gets more dramatic/climactic.

Exploring the space temple
Like the percussion.  I really enjoy the melodic journey/narrative on this one. For sure my favorite of the two and fits the description.

Nice work! and never say never. just be consistent!

Thank you soooooo much for taking the time to write this detailed review. I received your bug report as well, and will work on solutions with the dev. This post made my day amazing. Thank you

Looking for feedback on my game mechanic and potential adjustments

-is it intuitive to learn how to play
-Does anything make sense immediately?
-does anything not make sense immediately?
-Is the UI overwhelming or easy to navigate?
-Does the manual in the description clearly communicate how to play? or is it confusing?
-Does the demo/videos in the description help explain the functions?

https://clyphdrops.itch.io/tap-to-loop

Thanks in advance

I personally found this to be super helpful: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/i-am-not-musically-trained-and-iaSZpB0FS9SMhrxh...

How Quartal Harmony Works

  • Pick any note to start (for example, C).
  • Count up four notes (including your starting note) in the musical alphabet: C (1), D (2), E (3), F (4). So, C to F is a fourth.
  • From F, count up four notes: F (1), G (2), A (3), B♭ (4). F to B♭ is a fourth.
  • Stack as many fourths as you like for a bigger, more “open” sound.

How to Compose with Quartal Harmony

  • Start with any note as your root.
  • Add another note a fourth above.
  • Add another note a fourth above that.
  • Play all these notes together for a quartal chord.
  • Move the whole shape up or down to create progressions.
“Quartal harmony involves the use of a series of fourths in a sequence. At the very least, it involves two notes separated by fourths. For example, playing C and F together produces a sound that characterizes quartal harmony. If you stack another fourth (B♭) on top of the C and F, you get a typical quartal harmony voicing.”

Interesting, Was this inspired by anyone, thing, or mechanic seen from r/godot?

Nice! Are you comfortable with me sharing this on twitter and facebook?

I think it complimented your work well. i would like to encourage exploration of that idea.

Interesting. i hear what seems to be transients or sounds effects in the background.  adds to the ambience. nice work

Wind waker.  Very fun and adventure packed theme. I think the violins in the beginner are occupying the same frequency resulting in muddying each other. could just be my speakers though. Either way i would be careful about having two violins lines happening at the same time particularly if they are not separated by octaves. As in one high and the other low (which would pretty much be a different instrument). but nice work.

Reminds of the opening scene of zelda on the n64, where you first meet your fairy partner. Nice poem and nice use of Triple meter.

now this is smooth and relaxing. and that bubble sound at the beginning was such a delight. Reminded me of childhood bubble baths, but in the context of this jam, fits the image so well, i completely overlooked the fact that the image had bubbles in until i realized you included bubble. great example of the work bringing the image to life. Overall i get an underwater feeling reminiscent of sonic adventure.

Feels like this music is written more for the viewer that comes across this little magician in the forest, tavern, or wherever said character habitates.

This actually sounds like i at the theatre watching a play or ballad. a medium sized theatre where the gnome character is frolicing through the woods filled with joy and adventure with a little dissonance to clearly communicate obstacles in the path of the gnome character. Also reminded me of home alone for whatever reason.

Great work.

I'm imagininng a guy in the corner playing on a piano in a western style saloon. Creating  a new musical line for each person that enters the saloon. Each musical line narrating the appearance for each customer like tom and jerry.

Nice cover image by the way. I think your style of music would be great for Tom and jerry type cartoon.

Classy cover image, after the first few seconds Instantly thought old school final fantasy when you have to ride those birds. i think they were called chocobos. Not sure why my mind thinks farm but then again, an argument could be made that "cock fights" were the first casinos. Also found my self paying attention to the modulation of tones blending together. and that solo line is masterfully executed. Definitly something i could listen to multiple times just to digest the layers individually. First listen i paid attention to the solo/lead. second listen i was focusing on the everything happening in the background.

gReat work.

I swear i thought i saw a pokemon card in that hand  (a charizard?) :)

Well done, in fact i would almost say this is over produced a little. i am a little overwhelmed by the assortment of instrumentation popping in and out. Also the instrumentation give me the impression of an extremely large casino. Like a casino city instead of a building. And the city has a rule that only players can enter and once your in the city time becomes the currency you leverage for money.

NiCE work

Excellent start. really ear catching and attention grabbing.  Swear this belongs in its own genre. Im thinking luigi's haunted "casino". if i was a producer for "adams family" or "the grim adventures of billy mandy" i would hire you for the sound track.  Great work. really enjoyed this. That cover is fits really well. I can see the perspective of the house being demons that are looking to take your soul as collateral. Wow this could be a fun interpretation of a game. your the house and your goal is to scam people out of their money and souls.

oNE CRitique is the colors used on your project page are not easy on my eyes.

There is something interesting going on with the piano and that bass. I think adding a particularly room reverb would have made a huge difference for this mix. i get the impression of small hole in the wall jazz lounge/casino that doesn't get many customers.Very early morning slow pace venue that offers food and drinks. Nice work and thank for sharing.
