Yeah, big oversight on my part. I should've explained that mechanic. I think I didn't because the gas mechanic was the second to last thing I added in the game, so the dialogue and text functions were already written and done at that point. I definitely should've went back and refined it in hindsight! Another thing I've seen is that people have had a hard time navigating the open world map effenciently. Since I designed the map, I innately knew where things were, so I was almost always able to take a perfect route - and I think I might've used those trials to determine the gas depletion rate. Another oversight on my part!

I just saw the stream VOD, I had no idea Bauske played mine on stream too! The issue with my game was definitely that I failed to convey to the player that they could strategically turn the vehicle on/off to conserve gas using UP on the D-Pad. It's both possible to turn the vehicle off while waiting for your next destination to be given, and also coast a little bit on your decelerations by turning the vehicle on and off. Definitely should've clarified that in-game!
I figured there would be a learning curve with the truck controls and familiarising oneself with the map, but I'm glad to hear that it does indeed get easier. The deliveries work on a random system, but there is some stuff preset. Certain items can only spawn at certain points and certain items can only be delivered at certain points. And each pickup point has a pool of items to choose from. When it comes to where your pickup point spawns, that's completely random - so I get how it can make things feel unfair. My guess is that it takes some time to learn the right paths, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could get really unlucky with spawns too. Fortunately, that should only be a problem at the very beginning of the game, if it is one. Thanks!
P.S. I was wondering if anyone would notice the radio, since I didn't really advertise it aha.
There was a pretty nasty bug that a friend found in my game the morning after the jam ended. A check for an alterable value was missing, and I must've forgot to add it. I've uploaded a bug fixed version alongside the original, but it was after the game jam period. So I know my game will likely be judged by the original upload, which is more than fair, but if it is deemed worthy to go in the compilation, I hope y'all use the bug fixed one. I think it's essential. I didn't touch anything else but the checks to that one value, despite there being other things I noticed that were somewhat off - for the sake of making it more likely for the bug fixed version to be used, I mean. Cheers.
The name Programmer's Paradise is a somewhat ironic title, but it's based off an album cover to a tracker song I made several years ago. I put that track as the title track. The driving 'engine' was created entirely within Clickteam, but it did not use any preset Clickteam movements. All rotations, translations, and transformations are handled with events that I threw together. I absolutely would've loved to zoom out the frame some, but I wasn't even sure that was possible, especially without crunching everything on screen into noise. I did dabble with pulling the camera back as you go faster, but I hesitated to make that effect to strong. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to fix any bugs on the GameJam side of things, but if you see any while you play, please do let me know as I'd like to fix them ASAP for regular players.
Edit: I originally was going to make the game using the built-in Clickteam movements, but I switched over to my custom one when I realised the built-in movements and collisions weren't good for the kind of game I wanted to do. In fact, 2DBoxCar movement in still the modules folder, because I forgot to delete it out of an object. It's entirely unused though AFAIK.
Hi Clickteam. I'm interested in participating, but I'm curious if there's a limitation of how large the game can be. Mainly for audio's sake. Also, what's the copyright involvement of submitting the jam? Does submitting the jam just give Clickteam the rights to redistribute the content as part of the app, or does it give additional rights to the content?
