Nice concept and I like the art style!  Definitely made me a bit stressed out to clean the room on time hah

A little feedback  :  UI that displays what item you are currently holding would help.

Glad to see you had some music on and it felt like a finished project !

Good work !

Good effort on the project! You got the core mechanic (waves and towers) sorted.

Finishing a project is always the best, so kudos for that !

It's all a learning experience! Game jams can nicely push you in a right direction (aka working under deadline) and make you progress. Always keep on improving and you will get there!

As a word of advice , a little game description or written tutorial always help. Another tip is writing down the idea and following a little plan . Even if ,obviously ,we would want to add everything , sometimes there isn't enough time / resources.

Again, good job! 💪🏻💪🏻😁

Nice concept , both gameplay and art wise !

I think some music would be beneficial and the tighter game loop would make it more engaging as well , it took a while to get through the first few days . Ah, and somehow my stress level didn't go up, I guess I was super chill haha

All in all ,good work!

Cat for the win! Simple and works ! Good job !

Few notes though :

  1. I managed to increase the wave counter to wave 14 by pressing space and ended up with thousands of enemies to get rid off 😅
  2. You may want to loop the music or have different tracks playing one after another
  3. The area is a bit too big in my opinion , making it smaller would create a more engaging gameplay

Oh, nice touch with cat having 9 lives 😸

Just leave it for now and people have to git gud, praise the Sun and all that  haha . Joking obviously .

Lemmings  was something I played a little when I was young ,your enemies movement reminded me of it. It's from early '90s , nothing amazing , but a lot of memories go with it😊

Nicely done for a first game jam! Music fits the game and general aesthetic very well.

As per feedback, the objects can deal multiple points of damage per instance. A little cooldown on taking damage would mitigate this issue. Also ,adding an animation to the player character would make it feel less static.

Good work overall and congrats on finishing first jam game!

Wow, very well thought through game and great amount of polish! Everything works well, from game mechanics to SFX , audio ,animation and upgrade systems . Very well done! Plus cat characters, bonus points for that!

One thing I would add is maybe a pause screen during gameplay , small thing ,but lets you stop the game ,just in case.  Maybe allowing the player to skip the scene after you lose would be nice as well.

All in all, reaaaally well done on this one ! You got my vote!

Really like the vibe and art style in this game ! I am defiantly sold on this 8-bit arcade feel.

I experienced some frame drops here and there. Also, I managed to skip the first encounter room ,by clicking E one more time .That teleported me to the next room. Shooting is a bit tricky as well, would be nice to see the range with some visual indication.

All in all, great work, kudos to the team!

Really fun idea  ! Its like Fruit Ninja meets Sine wave .  It's simple concept ,but works well and it is well executed .

Great work overall!

Nicely done! I like the concept and the simple art, music works well with the vibe of the game as well!

The one thing I would say as feedback though is that player was moving way too fast in some instances ,almost teleporting . It makes it a bit hard to control , unless it's down to mouse sensitivity

Great art style and  its a very polished project !

My only note is that even though it's a storytelling game , it feels a bit repetitive, as we just follow the dialogue by clicking the mouse. Maybe some mini games or possibility of choosing answers would make it a touch better.

Kudos to the team though, good work!

Fun idea for a game ! Reminds me a bit of good old Lemmings . Great art and addition of sound.

As per game mechanics, I would probably tweak hitboxes/ attack range , so player can attack without getting hit , it's a bit difficult to clear levels hah.

All in all ,good work! 💪🏻

Really like the art style !

It is a bit hard to understand what to do in the game though(I saw later a comment in here)  , so would recommend implementing a small tutorial (either written in a description or in-game) . Also, audio would make the general feel better( even simple background music) .

Congrats on your first project! 💪🏻 Good work!

Good idea with waves as a main concept ! It is simple but works.

I would probably recommend adding some sound (SFX go a long way ) and little animation on the buttons ,when they are being pressed. The wave itself is a bit hard to differentiate between good and bad , but i assume that's a part of gameplay?

Hey hey! Just added a little devlog with some more info about the game etc. if any of you fancy a read 🙂

You did actually make a video, really happy to see that ! Glad you enjoyed some bits of the game .

The camera and controls need a redo . At the beginning , it was meant to be an isometric game ( hence how the controller behaves ). The camera is using Cinemachine Follow(World Space) and Rotation Composer (with very subtle lookahead) ,as well as Confiner (to keep the camera within specific area). This was a very first full project I have done in 3D , so still learning all the camera bits  😅

And yeeees, walls are a bit...thin 😅

Thank you for all the feedback , I really appreciate it ! This gave me the idea to write a dev log , so thanks for indirectly influencing this as well!

Thank you for your comment , really happy to hear you enjoyed it !

Re feedback , I will probably put the slam on cooldown down the line. Currently, enemies can only be hit within specific intervals ,what was meant as an anti-wave spam measure. But I agree, its a bit too simple . Camera will have a rework as well, the perspective is a bit skewed in some spots.

Thank you once again from the team of one ,aka me 😁

Glad you like the general concept!

Yay, another bug to look into ,thanks for the info!

The difficulty balancing is definitely in place, I wanted to create something challenging for the player , but sadly didn't have time to do much of playtesting with other people. Thanks for the feedback!

Really fun tower defense game ! I love the pixel art , good choice with the style.

Only thing I would recommend is to add an actual tutorial level at the beginning . It would help the player understand the mechanics , skills of different birds and general rules. It would probably create a better transition to the actual game.

Great work overall, really enjoyed it and will be back for more! ; ) You got my vote !

Great game , reminds me of the OG Rogue  , I got absolutely consumed playing it. I never played anything like it  and never thought I would like it ,but damn!

Great job ,everything works perfectly and it is really easy to get immersed , I will definitely be back to play some more ; ) You got my vote!

One question though : was there meant to be any SFX or music in the game?

Great storytelling game , I loved the whole experience , it felt immersive. The art was cute as well, the hand drawn-like whale was a very good choice. Clever combination of 2D and 3D assets as well.

As per feedback, the camera following the player could be a bit tighter, so you don't end up pushing to the side of the screen (as camera moving together with the input and not just when the player is further to the side of the screen).

Sonar VFX was very pleasant ,but i didn't understand what it does.

Great job you all!

Very happy you enjoyed it and thank you for  all the constructive criticism, I really appreciate the feedback ! 🙌🏻

I am planning to put a cooldown on the slam wave. Currently, there is a cooldown on how often an enemy can be hit  , it was easier to implement with time I had.

Re camera ,also a good point ,the perspective is a bit skewed ,so avoiding attacks can be tricky. Added to the list of fixes! This will probably follow player controller redo ( removing diagonal-like movement with straight up one ) 🤔

Again, thanks for playing! 😁

Ah, perfect ,thank you for that ,must have missed it ! 😉

Really fun game ,love the general design  ,but I am not sure how it fits the theme.

Also , not sure how I feel about all these submissions for different game jams ...

Simple ,but well executed idea!  I think the pacing is just right and the design works just right.

The only note is that i had an issue accessing it , until I put it in fullscreen mode( also ,it seemed to have resolution issue on mobile )

Sandpiper gives me flashbacks of Surf's Up , great choice!

Good interpretation of the theme , nicely executed overall, very smooth gameplay and a loop.

Loved that the bird almost explodes if you get hit by a wave when carrying stuff, made me laugh ( make it even more dramatic, add explosion VFX haha )

Great idea with using cosine and sine to affect player movement! Definitely waves are here

As per word of feedback, adjusting controls to be a little more snappy would help the overall feel ,for example, not overshooting platforms when jumping .

Overall great work!

(1 edit)

Nice interpretation of the theme! I really like the SFX added, for some player feedback.

What i would suggest is maybe having more of a directional flow of water particles , it feels a bit random at the moment.

Voted here as well! Great work!

Thank you ! Glad you enjoyed it! 😁

Super glad to hear that you enjoyed it ! 😉

Multiplayer ,you say? Hmmm, we could have players to go against each other to see who clears the stage faster, that's not a shabby idea ! Or do you mean multiple players on the same level ? 🤔

Re camera , I am aware its a bit wonky , gonna work a little on player controller alignment (no odd iso movement) and camera itself ,and will probably post an update on that ( why not having both modes actually ? 🤔)

Lots to think about here , i really appreciate all the feedback !

Thank you for playing and feedback! 😉

I will try to switch out the controls ,so they don't follow previous pattern, may update the build after the voting period is done.

Let see if that will make it more accessible ,as annoying player controls are the worst ,right? Will drop an update here , after i mess with the code a little ! Looking forward to dropping a vote on your game, if the queue allows hah

Hey all! Quick question here(and probably silly one)  ,as I could not see anything regarding that in the rules of the jam :

Are we allowed to modify the build of the game we submitted during voting period ?

Really well polished ,yet simplistic design! It is very visually appealing ,the music fits well( love the background track) . Great work!

What do you do when whole area is filled up ? Couldn't understand what to do when i got there 🧐

Great idea ,haven't seen a typing game in a while! Good work!

Sadly, it bugged out and I couldn't resupply with ammo.

Nice ,simple and well implemented theme. It almost felt like creating some weird music track at later waves ( the SFX of shooting enemies).  Good work!

Super Hot, but with a sword ! Good execution of the main loop and enemy waves 😉Colour scheme works well as well! I also like how enemies are being cut

Few things as feedback :

  1. Adding some background music will give it a better flow
  2. Tweaking shadows to smoothen out their look
  3. Some visual or sound feedback on getting hit by enemies

Out of curiosity, what did you use for the environment assets (walls, stairs  etc. ) ?

Great work overall!

Straightforward and simple concept , i like it! As per game mechanic ,everything works well  , could be juiced up by adding audio(even simple background music ) and maybe subtle feedback . Great work and keep it up! 😉

Shark Survivors , I like it ! I assume that's shark's teeth as bullets , are they ?

The pacing could be a bit faster ,as commented earlier , and music or other audio would definitely juice it up! You have a good idea here though! Keep it up !😉

Nice idea with wave tracking the environment. Found it a bit difficult to get used to it at first though , the waves were moving a bit too fast to spot the direction in which the player should go . Solid entry and waves are definitely here!

Waves are there and have no mercy! Simple mechanics but work well and the game itself is fun .

Would probably recommend some simple background music and/or SFX to enhance the experience. Adding a grid to the map would make it easier to place new buildings as well.

Great job!
