Hello everyone!

I just released a major update (v0.2) for my game Paranormal Operator, and I would love to get your honest feedback.

👁️ THE GAME It is a bureaucracy horror simulation inspired by games like Papers, Please and Observation Duty. You play as an emergency operator working the night shift. Your job is to handle reports, check the database, distinguish between humans and monsters (Skinwalkers, Doppelgängers, etc), and make the right call before it's too late.

⚡ WHAT'S NEW IN v0.2? I just added a "Break Room" mechanic to break the loop and add tension:

  • Energy System: Answering calls drains your stamina.
  • Manual Coffee Brewing: You must physically leave your desk, go to the break room, and brew coffee in a minigame to recharge.
  • The Window: You can now peek outside. Sometimes, you might see the "client" before they ring the bell... giving you a clue about their true nature.
  • English Support: The game is now fully playable in English and Spanish!

🧪 WHAT I NEED FEEDBACK ON Since this is my first complete game and I'm a solo dev, I need help with:

  1. The Game Loop: Is the balance between working (Desk) and recharging (Coffee) fun or frustrating?
  2. The Translation: Is the English translation natural? (I'm a native Spanish speaker).
  3. Difficulty: Is it too hard to detect the monsters with the current clues?

Thank you so much for your time! Any comment, no matter how small, helps me a lot.

Hi JEdwardCox!

I just saw your post looking for a team to build your portfolio. I think my project might be a perfect match for what you are looking for.

I am the developer of "Paranormal Operator", a bureaucracy horror game inspired by Papers, Please and Observation Duty.

Regarding your post: I noticed you mentioned wanting to join a Game Jam. To be honest, I have never participated in a Game Jam myself either, so this has been a huge learning journey for me as well.

Why is this a good opportunity for you?

  1. The game is already released (v0.2): You don't have to wait to see your work in action. It's playable right now on itch.io.
  2. It is text-heavy: The core gameplay involves reading case files, manuals, and dialogues with suspects.
  3. Creative Freedom: I have the mechanics working, but I need help polishing the English translation, improving the dialogues to make them scarier, and expanding the "Lore".

Future Plans: Currently, this is a Hobby Project (unpaid/portfolio building). My long-term goal is to polish it enough to release it on Steam, but I want to be transparent: this is not guaranteed yet, as it depends on how the project evolves.

You can play the prototype here: https://mapexpro.itch.io/operador-paranormal

If you are interested in handling the narrative/writing for the game to build your portfolio, I would love to have you on board!

Best regards, Mapexpro

Hi, the english version is now available

Hi! I'm making a videogame. Does the CC-BY 4.0 license apply to the illustrations/art as well, or only the text?

Gracias por el trabajo son imágenes increíbles, usare algunas en mi juego en desarrollo. Luego te mencionare.https://mapexpro.itch.io/operador-paranormal

Thank you very much, I'm working on improving it and releasing new versions. Any ideas or suggestions are very welcome. :D
