Glad you enjoyed it! And appreciate the feedback.

For gameplay you're not wrong, the adventure elements are still very rough and need a lot more attention. Been a few years since I focused on this, I think it's time to dust it off and apply a lot of what I've picked up along the way.

it’s one double sided sheet.

You must be fun at parties.

Oh, just remembered, one key difference is there are no classes in the zine version. That was a decision for the sake of space.

Ack, thanks, definitely need to prioritize the cleanup. Had this on my "come back to" list and you've just helped bump it up! Thank you!

Thank you, and thanks for catching that. The only difference should be the formatting, but I'll work on an update to make sure everything' s in sync and roll out 0.7! Thanks!

Woah, so sorry I left this hanging for so long. Let me see what I can do, tho.

Ha, sounds fun, let me know if you ever share an actual play, would love to see how it works out!

Thanks -- happy to see other folks enjoying it!

Gishiki

Have you wanted to get some magic on in a game using the RPG Ikezu-Ishi? Well here's your chance!

Gishiki is based on "Glog Magic Hack for Cairn" and allows any PC to craft and use rites, but sometimes at terrible costs.

Available for Free/PWYW!

Stick this straight into my veins!!!

As a Jason I am both appreciative of and exploited by this game. I look forward to my own OP entry into the game: Jason - You’re a middle aged dad who’s kid is late for soccer practice.

8.5 for the most part. And yeah, it worked for me to start but woah that’s puny. I’ll have to work on a reformatted edition.

In the meantime, the rules are available here for easy o line use or cut and paste however you’re need: https://jasonkenney.github.io/Ikezu-ishi/

That’s a great list of inspiration (and not just saying that because 0c0p is in there).

thanks!

https://serialprizes.itch.io/kuroru

Kuroru is a fantasy Japan inspired hexcrawl generator to help the Guide and players generate a world to explore for Ikezu-ishi or any other system out there.

Using the tables in this book, a Guide will be able to generate a map of hexes, each with the following details:

  • Biome
  • Vegetation
  • Water
  • Content (Landmark, Settlement, Location)
  • Domain and Faction
  • NPC and Items that can be found

Some tables require a copy of Ikezu-ishi to play (tables and creatures references).

Kuroru is inspired by and borrows heavily from:

Luka Vannutini, Hexcrawl Hack for Cairn 2E, https://local-lake-games.itch.io/hexcrawl-hack-for-cairn-2e

Atelier Clandestin, Sandbox Generatorhttps://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/430675/sandbox-generator

And psyched to hear you’re running this! Hope everyone enjoys it (minus a few clarifications, sorry about that).

Yeah, they should stack, so if the distance between two points was medium (2 watches) but it’s a trail (+1) in the woods (tough +1) then it’s 4 total watches or 32 hours to travel from point A to point B. Players could leave point A and travel in the Morning, travel Afternoon, make camp at Night, then travel Morning, travel Afternoon, arrive at point B before Night.

And I think I’ve figured a fix: the idea was that a Quick weapon helps with the DEX roll the first round of combat, regardless of opponent’s weapon. Essentially a -X modifier to the roll. Maybe something like:

Quick X: When determining who acts first during the first round of combat, treat your DEX as being X higher.

Ack, ok, need to revisit this wording, but the idea was that a Quick weapon helps with the DEX roll the first round of combat, regardless of opponent’s weapon. Essentially a -X modifier to the roll. Maybe something like:

Quick X: When determining who acts first during the first round of combat, treat your DEX as being X higher.

That’s incredible! Thank you!

Oooooo… are these the same things included in the preordered box set? (Checking before I accidentally buy em all a second time.)

A Table Roll Playing Game — I’m in!

YES! How could I miss that?!!

I don't have as many notes for Domains and Strongholds, but oh boy do I wanna make 'em!

Thanks for the compliment!

And sure, you could bring in BDP skills and even change the rules on how they apply, whatever works for your table. The rules are pretty modular so flavor for taste.

On Push, Bleed, Brutal, it came down to not many weapons being covered by some abilities compared to others, so for the sake of simplicity I narrowed down the list. But you can certainly bring them back in.

Enjoy and please let me know how it goes!

Whoops, good catch. That's a holdover from the Block, Dodge, Parry SRD that somehow made it through edits. Thanks for the heads up, off to polish!

Going through my notes for things that didn’t make it into the rulebook.

https://serialprizes.itch.io/iia1-defenders-of-koganemura

Defenders of Koganemura is a four-day adventure for the Ikezu-Ishi RPG. Tasked with protecting the village of Koganemura from an impending bandit raid, players must train villagers, build defenses, and prepare for the final battle.

Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and designed for 2-7 players, Defenders of Koganemura is easily adaptable to other Cairn-inspired systems.

Aw crud, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks!

I’m working on an SRD here, need to clean I’m up but feed free to use it as needed

https://jasonkenney.github.io/Ikezu-ishi/

YIKES! I'll have to check the "final". Thanks for that!

Just in time for the holidays, V1.0 of Ikezu-ishi is officially RELEASED!

Tightened up from v0.9 and a few more facts added I'm working on a separate adventure that'll help build the setting more, so stay tuned.

Enjoy and please let me know how your games go!

And thanks for catching that edit on the settlement name generator.

These are amazing! Great work and thanks for putting these together!

Doh! Thank you!

Oh snap, really? I’ll look into that, that’s pretty important to me too. Thanks!

thanks!

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, come one, come all for v 0.9 of Ikezu-ishi and enjoy!

This may be IT. Barring any massive edits or someone going "hey, you've completely missed the fundamentals of fun" I've told myself to stop adding and focus on cleaning up for final release. Whew. So v 0.9 may become v 1.0 if all goes well. Squee and stuff.

Tweaks:

  • embraced Cairn 2e Warden’s Guide, woo
  • Locations and Landmarks tables by terrain
  • Good bye advantage/disadvantage, welcome back enhanced/impaired
  • Expanded setting including a town and NPCs for folks wanting a place to get started
  • Historical summary of Japanese periods with clans faction listings
  • More…

Any thoughts, questions, impressions, confessions of undying love, just give a shout in the comments. And thank you for taking a peek at my little project here.

Thanks!

- GREAT point on the encounters co-mingling with player facing content. I'll rearrange, gotta settle on what goes where.

- No specific adventures come to mind right now, I've been generating as I go while kicking around a setting. Any adventures for Cairn could apply, just substitute encounters/creatures. I'll do a bit more digging and see if I can make any specific recommendations, tho.
