Thank you so much :D
I only noticed that I forgot the set the music to loop after I already submitted to the jam 😔
And yes it is a shader, it is this public domain shader: https://godotshaders.com/shader/random-displacement-animation-easy-ui-animation/
For the shadow, I just copied the sprites and put a darker version behind it.
Thank you :)
Really fun game, the base gameplay was fun, although the hurtbox felt too big. Wish I was able to experience more of the progression system, but after taking few of the "you can take another hit upgrades" it was just a bit of playing to get the beat the game potion, so I didn't get the different abilities experience.
Good luck in the jam :D
Really nice twist, but during the switch to 3D I didn't realize that it switched to mouse controlling camera so I spent way too long running into walls (that I climbed, that was a very cool mechanic). Possibly some text prompt telling the player they can control the camera with mouse, as, at least with the web version, you have to click the screen to get the camera mouse controls working.
Lovely game overall :)
Love the art style and how the level randomly generates in the beginning :D
Sometimes I was unable to pick up one of the blue thingies, usually one or two per level.
Missing some audio, but overall this was great, and great job making the main concept and controls clear even without any description on the itch page or in game (although you probably should still include some itch page description), it is quite hard to pull that off effectively, and you successfully did that :D
Cool game
The controls felt inconsistent due to the fact if you went one over a turn, you had to redo the entire line instead of going back one tile. The game broke for me when it got to the two bus level, where some riders wouldn't go into the buildings they requested for whatever reason getting stuck on the bus forever and soft locking the game (one of the two buildings with this issue wasn't adjacent to any road).
I like the concept of the game and the core loop is fun, but it definitely needs polish
Good luck in the jam!
Really cool game :D
The art style was lovely and I did like the voice overs (even though they became repetitive after a while). While I know this was the point of the theme, but restarting at the very beginning for making any mistake became quickly annoying, especially because there wasn't anything new to do except walk. The new mechanics could've make it faster, but it was usually a just walk back. I would suggest making the way back faster and/or have more things. Also it was unclear when the dash recharged, leading to a death.
Something else that I liked was how quickly you introduced mechanics, as that kept many of the rooms unique and recognizable, and wasn't confusing due to how they were straightforward.
Good luck in the jam!
This game was super fun :D
It's a very cool concept and it is done well. The addition of the spike balls and the no music zones were added at good points, as I settled into a static solution of right before they were introduced, even though climbing with the note blocks was definitely far a consistent pattern.
Sometimes waiting for the music player to come back around if you missed the note by one tile was annoying, but it wasn't that big of an issue due to how short the levels and game was overall, some sort of reward for completing the levels as fast as possible or with as few music meter used up as possible would be a great addition imo, as it would hopefully reward players that play in a more risky and fast passed way, and would give more replay value.
Excellent game, good luck in the jam :)
This is a very cool concept, unfortunately it felt that I had no true direction to go with the command prompt, even after the cookie god. Either the command didn't work or it said I couldn't access it because it was corrupted/needed admin, and I wasn't sure where to go overall.
Very impressive you made this in scratch as well
Good luck in the jam!
Quite the silly game, and I like how you took the theme
Something I noticed is that the opportunities to tell this man "ew" and get score is very RNG based, and while that does make chasing a high score hard, in theory you can have a game with not a single point opportunity and that would be extremely silly
Firstly I have to say I really like how you type to code in, and also how you included a settings menu (and one that didn't just effect music and sound, but also the speed of the snake, very nice addition and one that could have been left behind in a game jam)
I, like many people got stuck on three
Until I didn't! With the power of brute force!
I then just got stuck on level 4 right after
In a game jam it is usually best to include some level skipping mechanic so if they get stuck they can still play the rest of the game
Good luck in the jam!
Quite a good game, some things I would suggest would be:
- Some way to control your jump height, I do like how high it is as it makes it stand out and the height itself is quite fun, but at times it was too high for what was wanted. While varying the jump height based on how long it was pressed is a classic for game feel, the fastfalling mechanic found in platform-fighters (like smash bros.) might work well, as you will get the full height but the player can choose to fall more quickly if they choose.
- There are lots off falls of faith in this game, please have the camera show where you are going to fall before you jump, it would help a ton
- Checkpoints would be wonderful, as you are going for more of a story focus failing and having to redo a whole section breaks the emersion and flow, while just being annoying. Additionally checkpoints allow the game to be more difficult without becoming more frustrating.
- Hard to word as a suggestion, but the first level was harder than all the other levels. Due to the two jumps where if you bonk your head, you just die it just lead to multiple deaths that felt unfair. The other levels were alot more reasonable and I was able to get through them without a single death.
Good luck in the jam, and am excited to see what you do in the future
Firstly, I just want to say that this was a nice little puzzle game, it somewhat felt that I could always brute force a solution, but the difficulty curve and introduction of new mechanics was well done :D
Secondly I want to say I destroyed the fabric of reality!!! And I deserve at least an S+ rank for getting 208 stars nyehehehehe! /j
Turns out there is a very fun glitch that allows the player to essentially a super version of an action that repeats itself a ton, it can be done by:
- Grabbing a box on the right edge
- hovering to the left edge of the box
- and letting go
This should create two transparent boxes, that when used, do a super repeated version of the action.
This was honestly super fun and silly, and if you continue this game, an intentional version of that would be so much fun.
This also lead to a glitch where if you completed the level and died at the same time, you would get the stars and the level would reset, allowing me to farm stars.
The bug boxes also create a whole other set of glitches when moving around other boxes when there is a bug box set active that I wasn't fully able to delve into.
Wonderful game, good luck in the jam
