New dev needing feedback: Evasion

Hi everybody! I'm a new game developer starting with Python/Pygame, (moving from Scratch to more complicated things.) I made my first game recently and I am looking for constructive criticism (really any criticism) to help me improve.

https://cr38or-elijahk2.itch.io/beta-evasion Here is a link to the game, have fun!

Underlying gameplay code seems good, basic mechanics. What sort of shop/roguelike elements did you plan to implement? Menu subsystems need some work, there's no quit option for example, or a way to quit while in the middle of a game back to the main menu short of pressing alt+F4, and again to quit the game. Generally you want control scheme's to be available and inform the players of such, even if its just in the readme.

Graphics are also decent if basic. If your interested, you could try checking out the Hard Vacuum tileset, which is an open source set from a defunct RTS.

As for music, care to elaborate on the source and licensing of the music? I ask because charging money (even donations) with licensing or such involved can get a bit tricky.

Also, if you have any questions code wise, feel free to ask. I have a lot of experience working with python.

Thanks for your response!

As far as "roguelike" updates I was thinking maybe like (not so roguelike but still) like start you off with lower speed but add upgrades with money, maybe add a score multiplier upgrade, etc. and for actual roguelike, add checkpoints throughout with upgrades to help you get further.

The music is Suno AI, which allows you to monetize the music IF you generated it with a paid subscription, which I did. So I own the music, in concurrence with current AI license policies as far as  I know. Might change in the future tho.

Again, thanks for your response, if you have anything else pls let me know!

Oh and for art, I don't like using other people's art even if mine sucks. I preferred to make my own because it makes me feel more into the project

Ahh, well Suno AI is as  good a source as any, that should (hopefully) be fine.

As for mechanics,  you could also consider powerups like a one time use bullet shield, or perhaps a recall powerup to warp to a preset or random location for quick get aways, or a time slow powerup to temporarily slow the bullets down, etc.

As for art, I can appreciate the sentiment. I tend to make all my own artwork as well, and working on a project is great motivation for improvement. But again, I wouldn't say your artwork is bad, just basic. Either way, i'm sure you'll do fine. ;)

Yeah, Suno was the best option I found that was easy and good. I will consider your ideas to be added. Thanks!!!
