New bitsy tool

Since I started using Bitsy last year, it always bugged me how creating new animation frames, assigning unique asset colors, and enabling transparent backgrounds all required manual edits inside the game data. My friend also kept running into speed limitations when it came to designing new assets, there was no way to flip tiles and no way to quickly navigate through his 400 unnamed tile mess. While I know Bitsy Color+ tackles some of these issues, it’s also outdated and its exports aren’t fully compatible with vanilla Bitsy.

This tool on the other hand was built with full vanilla bitsy support in mind, meaning all exported edits that you make will appear in the vanilla bitsy including but not limited to different colored tiles, extended animation frames and transparent background.

This tool adds:

For paint tool:

  1. Undo / Redo with 16 stored steps per asset
  2. Rotate - 90° pixel rotation
  3. Invert - swaps 0's with 1's and 1's with 0's
  4. Flip horizontally / vertically
  5. Clear - reset asset pixels
  6. Nudge - shift pixels left, right, up, down (this does not wrap, so any pixels that go off screen will be cleared)
  7. Mirror - copy pixels from one side to the other
  8. Transparent background option for avatar, items, and sprites
  9. Favorites system for tiles (quick-access category in find section and dedicated pane under tool section)
  10. Animation overhaul - Unlimited animation frames which you can navigate through with a slider, frame reordering tools, delete-last-frame tool

Game setting feature:

Theme selector, including default and dark mode

Wow, that looks amazing! I'll be trying your tool out with my next bitsy project.

Thank you for your work!

I agree with Valeriy! :D Very cool! Thanks!

Hello, maybe you're interested in Whimtale Engine. It has a lot more feature than vanilla Bitsy. I just wanna recommend you. Made by the same developer of Ct.js Game Engine. Stil in open beta state.

Aww, you got ahead of me, Khi-R, lol. I just got a reply from the WT Creator to my questions that I had. Thanks for spreading the word.

I only found Whimtale going on a week now, thanks to Piteas!

The blocks were a bit overwhelming (similar to Twine's passages), but after doing CoMiGo's 2 Tutorials (and creating them myself!), I caught-on quite quickly, and have even made some of my own coding for the Fetch-Quest one, so I think more ppl should try it out, since once you get the hang of the Tuts, you can start coding a while after that.

Thank you and congrats for the discovery of Whimtale and your first project! Also i have another alternative for Bitsy 3D if you are interested. The engine are called Wareware. This is a very colorful and happy engine. I didn't use it yet, because i prefer an offline version. I still waiting that version until now.

I don't know where Piteas and you are finding these great browser tools, but thank you both so much!! I'll definitely try Wareware in a bit! Have an amazing day! (It's been snowing here and lots on the ground, so an early Christmas gift I suppose...)
