Is my game idea good? (beginner)

I've been trying to learn game development for a while. After being trapped in 'Tutorial Hell' for about six months, I said "Screw it. The best way to learn is by doing" so I have decided to try to make a game, despite my small amounts of experience with the Godot game engine.

My game is going to be about a woodlouse (slaters, as they're more commonly known as). I have always enjoyed how the little guys can roll into balls as a defensive mechanism, and I want this to be the core gameplay that my project is designed around. The player will be able to roll into a ball to gain momentum, and also bounce, (a bit like Sonic after obtaining the Bounce Bracelet in Adventure 2). This can not only be used for creative parkour, but also engaging physics based combat.

My main concern is the programming difficulty. I am a beginner. Are things like physics or momentum hard to work with? Should I consider other ideas??

Just jumping in and learning as you get stuck (asking in the forums) is a good way to go about it.

If I remember correctly, physics and momentum are features that are built into Godot. Where you will struggle is with the transitions, and you might just need to make animated graphics for that - i.e. the player is standing and next thing the player is a ball - and then stops being a ball again.

You can try block programming to get a rough idea of what each part of the code does and how it works. There are enough tools on itch.io to get started, and then you can put it into practice
