Ranked from 23 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
You must progress by shifting your attention away from the enemies and onto scattered radios, leaving you vulnerable to attack. This risk/reward based rhythm of hopping between tending to entities and trying to progress is at the core of the game.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
2 plugins: Dialogue Manager by Nathan Hoad and Universal Fade by Tomek

Basic 3D movement/control stuff and some basic gameplay stuff reused from old projects.

Some remixed sound effects from freesound.org

How many people worked on the game?

Wow, really nicely done!

This is a great game! I love the idea of taking care of entities while also trying to find the door code. The note system is a really neat idea and the encyclopedia is really cool. The visuals are great I love the art style and the atmosphere. 6 Badges to earn and 2 modes this game jam game is a full experience!

Cool mood, encyclopedia, and solid mechanics but a bit repetitive; in each subsequent room, the player obtains the door code in the same way.

Submitted(+1)

A lot of things to like here! I appreciate the encyclopedia that tells you how to deal with each enemy. Cool music. And the shader/particles on the main menu were mesmerizing.

Developer(+1)

thank you! glad you enjoyed the music :D

I got to the third level before stopping! (I'm a coward when it comes to playing horror games). I really liked this! Definitely has a bit of a liminal feel. I like all the different monsters (that I've seen so far) and how they're implemented! I liked the different levels, but didn't like it so much that I had to restart the whole thing every time I died. I did really like the in-game note writing as well! Overall, this game is really polished! I'll try to come back to it, to try to finish it once I calm down a bit...

Developer(+1)

Thank you! If everything was working correctly, you shouldn't have had to restart from level 1 every time you died if that's what you meant. There's an option to start the game from any level you've unlocked, so if you died on level 3 then you'd be able to start from level 3 again. Were there problems with that system?

Submitted(+1)

Oh, really? Maybe I clicked something wrong then. Every time I died and restarted, I had to restart from the very beginning. The very first door did have something different to say though, and the encyclopedia did update with all the monsters I died from.

Never mind, I found the load level button! I'm just blind

Really did not get far at all cause I'm not very good with anything scarier than Resident Evil, but this is so cool and effectively scary. Audio visual wise its basically perfect, and the little I gameplay I played intrigued me. Great entry, hope you can get some more attention from people who are a little better at handling this sort of stuff!

Sounds and lvls are good, but I've played in pussy mode, so can't say much.

Submitted(+1)

A really nice game! I liked the fact that we can write the code in the note! I played on the normal mode. Great work!

Submitted(+1)

I loved playing this game, it wasn't too scary which i do understand for a jam game but the Scares and eerie atmosphere could've been better Designed. still really good game and it was definitely worth trying :D

See you in the Racookie Heist Comments section and ratings :D

That was fun. I like that the codes keep changing on the doors.  Have to admit it was easy to get lost in some places because everything looked the same.  Found it easier to evade the entity when I had my headphones on.  That said, it's a solid entry!

This is such a cool concept! A really good use of the horror/tension aspect combined really well with the theme at hand. I really enjoyed this one, well done!

I love these types of horror games! The eerie atmosphere and the fact that you have to direct your attention to somewhere else makes me feel way more scared than I need to be XD. Great work for only a weeks time!

Submitted(+1)

Felt really polished and I liked the atmosphere. The notepad was a nice touch. It would have been nice to see from the hiding place though.

Developer

i'll keep that in mind, thanks!

Im such a wuss lmao! I love playing atmospheric horror games (Amnesia was what brought me into the genre). Yours is very easy to understand and has a great and creepy gameplay... that static from the juke boxes and doors slamming/opening were making me paranoid lol.

This one is one of my favorites I love the game play I love the retro horror look of it!

It's just pitch black. How do I fix this?

Developer

That's odd. What operating system are you on?

Submitted

Windows

Developer

Can you see the menu and the intro section?

Submitted

No, its just pitch black from the start

Submitted

I hear music though

Developer

I'm sorry, I don't know what else you could do. The only idea I have is if you delete it and redownload it. Other than that, I'm not sure.

Submitted(+1)

I already tried redownloading it. I'm on Windows 11. Well, thanks for the help trying to fix it. Tomorrow I'll try to download it on a different computer.

Developer

Also, are you on an older version of Windows?

Wow dude! Your game is one of the best games I've tried in this jam. Inspiring! Core gameplay loop is fun. Maybe can be a little bit more randomised. Hope to see you in the next JAM my friend!

Even though I usually don't like horror games I enjoyed this one very much. Radio mechanic, especially rewinding if you miss numbers was very cool and it's great that instead of going lazy mode and make passwords same in every run you make them random. Every level feels different with different monsters and aesthetics even though progression is same. Models and sounds are good cool too. It's a shame that this game has 1 rate so far but I think horror games doesn't go very good in this game jam (or maybe both you and I are unlucky idk).

Only feedback I can think of is radio places can be random in each run, but maybe you've done it in hard mode I didn't try it.

Developer (1 edit)

thanks for the feedback! i attribute the lack of ratings to the lack of a web build in our case. we also haven't been rating many other games yet since we were recovering from the stress of the jam. (we were a bit too ambitious with this one and tired ourselves out)

i didn't think about randomizing radio placement, mainly because i wanted the players to get better by practicing levels multiple times, but perhaps randomized radio locations in hard mode would be a good idea, we didn't do that. thanks again for your kind words!

You should definitely check this jam's community page and look for "rating for rating" posts if you want your game to be seen. I've also had 1 rate while commenting your game but after posting a rate for rate post and look for other people's posts my game's rating increased very much. Your game is one of the best games I've tried in this jam so I'm recommending that.

MINOR SPOILERS:

Super fun! I felt like the kind of minigame collection-esque style really lends itself well to a game like this one. After getting used to each of the monsters mechanically, it's really easy to keep coming up with fun challenges for myself and keep stretching what you're able to do with the game. I feel like there's a lot of potential with these guys, and the surreal atmosphere is just the cherry on top. I liked the Ducks.

I give hard mode a fast look  and played in peacefull mode. It was not really risky for me but I enjoyed :d
