Fun game! Extremely polished for only 4 days, good job
Thanks a lot
I really appreciate it
Very meta haha. I enjoyed the humor. It's hard to settle on something that feels fun and in-theme, I like how your narrative explores that. Overall this is a great first jam game, good job!
Thanks a lot for playing! I really appreciate it. And thanks for the support. All the positive compliments is really motivating me to do more game jams!
Fun game
Got lost long enough to have a play date
Loop of a loop lmaoo
Hahhahah thanks a lot for playing. I'll be honest, I didnt even realize the idea of being able to take the cube with you.
If I go back to it, I bet it could be a mechanic in itself. Bring something along from a previous level to finish the current one.
Glad you enjoyed your lil play date
So, here's how it went for me: first time, I accidentally hit Ctrl+W and closed the tab while in the town, so I had to restart. I got through the horror part, but managed to walk past the staircase back up and fell off the floor of the world, so I started again. I hit a wall telling me I shouldn't be here and may have to restart, but that was fixed by going back for a bit. Then I stumbled through the wall in the final room without checking out the submit button, so I went through the whole game another time. I literally played in a loop, in a game that's all about being in a loop of developing a game. And then, at the end, the game just loops back to the start.
What can I say, you nailed the theme in the most meta, fourth-wall-breaking way possible.
On a more serious note, a suggestion for next time: try finding an interesting gameplay mechanic first, and then worry about the theming. Also, 2D may be the easier start.
Oh and I read the pause menu of course. And the sign in the first room that said "Attempt: 3" when I got back there at the end.
Anyways, congratulations on your first game jam!
Oh my god! I really appreciate the in depth feedback. I cant explain how much that means to me!
It's fascinating that having to constantly restart and retry the game still kinda just... fits the theme lol. Because after you submit the game, it does indeed just loop back to the start. But I'm honored you gave it so many tries!
You're totally right about finding a mechanic first though. I was too indecisive the first two days so kind of just threw this together at the end because I was so stressed out about nothing working. The goal was to submit a game no matter what. For the future though, I will definitely try and be more organized!
Regarding 2D however, I have no gift for art. I'm a developer at heart. I would've benefitted from a team where we can share expertise but given the last minute nature of this jam for me, I couldn't do that.
I'm glad you read the whole pause menu lol. It was just me doing stuff on the last day as an excuse while I should've been adding music to everything :)
Thank you so much for playing and providing feedback!
It's an impressive game considering how late you decided on it!
Regarding 2D, there are great assets just like for 3D. Having an artist on your team is great of course, but you can make great stuff with free assets as well. Or you can go with some minimalist style to create something decent yourself. But of course, it's totally fine to just go with whatever you want :)
So fun, nice take on Stanley Parable or really the "Beginner's Guide!" So much of my inner dialog represented here :)
And yes I did read all the way tot he end of your "pause" menu!
Hahah Yea I bet the inner dialogue is what most people in this jam were going through.
But Ayy you're the first person who actually paused and read the whole thing. Thanks a lot lol
And thanks for playing. I really appreciate it
For 1 game jam it’s amazing game
Thanks a ton for playing! I really appreciate it
Congratulations on finishing your first game jam! Excellent concept behind this game. It makes me think of "Exit 8". Love the horror part. Although, I was totally lost in the maze after a while, and I wish I had some help. Anyway, the idea is cool and the music sets the mood in a good way when it appears. The WebGL build has no problem with movement for me by the way. Good job!
Thanks a lot for playing.
It seems that for me the WebGL refuses to work with WASD but works fine with Arrow keys? Not sure why.
You're right about the inspiration from Exit 8. Especially the same hallway between sections!
I totally get that the maze is a little too confusing without hints. I might add that down the line if I return to it. Thanks for the feedback
I felt like there was always something behind me. Kinda reminds me of The Stanley Parable.
Thanks for creating! :)
Thank you for playing!
Stanley Parable, Beginner's Guide and Exit 8 are definitely what inspired this so I'm glad you felt that connection.
I really enjoyed the unique narrative! I haven't seen anything like this so far.
I read that this was your first game jam. My first game jam was the GMTK Game Jam in 2020. It was also my first game!
I hope you learned a lot from this experience, as I did back then. Game jams are so much fun, and I hope you continue to make games!
Thank you so much for playing. I really appreciate your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it
It is my first game jam. I've been doing game dev for a while but I never finish anything. This was a good way to push myself to go across the finish line!
I'll definitely be doing more in the future
Super cool and relatable! If this is your first jam, then good job! Mechanics are also super cool and creative, contributing to an enjoyable experience as well as complementing a strong narrative.
It is indeed my first game job! Thanks a lot for playing.
I really appreciate you playing
Really creative idea, and well done on the first jam!
There are some really good gameplay mechanics in here and its always hard doing it for the first time
Thanks a lot! Yea getting through and actually "finishing" a game the first time was the goal.
Hopefully will be able to progress and do more refined work in the future!
I really appreciate you playing
like the idea ! the game felt a bit laggy somtimes though. Still, congrats on your first Jam ! It's my first too so i know how tough it is !
Thanks a lot for playing.
Yea it really was all over the place but I had fun! The lagginess might be cuz I made everything with like... a PC in mind, completely forgetting it needs to run in WebGL. Will keep in mind for the future
I really appreciate your feedback
the concept is pretty nice, i love it ^^
Thanks for playing my dude! I really appreciate it
Congrats for you first game jam.. and enjoyed the game would be nice to see some hints
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. It's been a great experience.
You're absolutely right about the hints. Especially in the dungeon maze sequence! Will look at that down the line
Thanks again
was super scared thinking it had a jumpscare
Have you played The Stanley Parable or The Beginner's Guide? they have the same narrative driven vibe of your game! You can add a voiceover and it feels amazing
great entry! congrats on your first GJ!! ☺️
Thanks a lot for playing!
I didn't wanna commit too hard on jump scares! Maybe I'll add proper scares next time!
Stanley Parable is one of my favorite games. I was definitely inspired by it!
You're right. A narration (or audio in general) would've greatly benefitted the game. I just didn't manage my time enough to allow for it! I also did it alone. Would've been better if I had a team member dedicated to the audio aspect.
Thanks for the feedback. Hope you enjoyed it
Got stuck at the point where you can turn torches on and the pumpkin. Couldn't seem to find the way to the next part of the game!
Enjoyed the concept, would have been nice to have some kind of hint system when one got lost... although could just be a skill issue XD
Thank you so much for playing!
You're absolutely right. I didn't really playtest the maze enough to be certain it is solvable! I added one dialogue option if you go too far off into the wrong size and another one if you're close to the end. But a hint system where the user can request a hint if they're stuck would've been better. I appreciate the feedback!
Hope you enjoyed however far you did make it
A unique little game about making games! I thought it was cool seeing into your journey, and a very interesting way to turn the challenges you faced into an experience for others.
Thank you so much for playing! Hope you enjoyed it.
