I really liked this idea and the ambiance of the game. It reminds me of hunting for memories in breath of the wild. The title screen is cool too. The few frustrations I had were mostly with controls; I wish it were a bit quicker or smoother, for example it would be nice if switching to the camera was quicker, or if walking started instantly when the button was held instead of having to hold it for a second. I also found it a little frustrating that I couldn’t look around in walk-mode, because it meant I had to make lots of little back and forth adjustments, and since the mode switching was slow this made it take a long time to find the right position even if I was roughly in the right spot. Overall pretty fun!
I definitely took some visual inspiration from BotW and TotK! I agree with all your feedback on the controls. I spent so much time on the visuals (still learning shaders!) that i really left too little time one the game play element. Thank you so much for playing and spending the time to comment!
That was a beautiful game. I liked it, I don't know if it only has 2 stages, because I completed both and there were some more drawings left but I didn't get the option to go to a third isle.
Still super chill, loved the ambience sounds, the visuals, it reminded me of "Three robots" (from the series Love, Death & Robots). However I have to point out that the sound of activating the camera is way too loud, the sounds are super chill, the birds, the waves, the slow walking make it for a super chill and relaxing ambience, but the sound of the camera just shatters it all. I'd change that for a soft shutter sound or something like that. And I'd also remove the godot logo, it breaks the immersion so much for me, you have a beautiful setup, you made a visually stunning game but that logo there makes it look like a tech demo... I don't know, it's just not for me sorry! (I'd argue that people should stop using the godot logo as a mascot or easter egg tbh, but that's just my opinion).
In any case I see this being build upon, maybe more photos in the same isle, more elements, more isles, maybe random events, like a strange fish the size of a dolphin or even a whale jumping off the water and you have to capture the moment, or birds going through something and you have to time it to get the most of that scene, maybe with ratings so if you take the picture without the birds or without the perfect timing you get 3 stars and if you capture the moment perfectly you get 5 stars.
In any case, I see future in this, people need relaxing games and you've already achieved something visually impressive I wanted to keep playing, I wish I could explore more paths, with caverns and fireflies or night scenes with stars and comets and that you have to capture a comet as it passes over a pointy rock or something like that. Anyways, I loved it, good job! Are you planning on continuing the game after the jam?
I am a big fan of Love, Death & Robots (although some times a bit grim lol) so being compared to it is a such a great complement! Point taken about the Godot logo and i kind of agree too. It was originally meant to be a placeholder but as with game jams, i ran out of time and it became permanent.
I definitely want to keep on building on this after the jam since i am really invested in this world and idea now! It may take a while though as I am at the point where my technical abilities as a programmer and artist can't keep up with all the things i want to implement which is kind of frustrating.
Also, you can revisit the first (or second) isle to tick off the remaining images by making use some of the things you've learnt in the second isle ;)
Thanks for playing and taking the time to share your ideas and feedback! It's honestly so wholesome to see comments like these and make the jam worth while.
This game is so pretty! I really like the setting / overall atmosphere and ambience, it makes for such a calm and relaxing atmosphere. I was a bit confused at first on how to move the character, and it took me a minute to realize I had to select “Isle of Rain” to move forward to the other level, but once I got the hang of it it was very fun! I struggled a bit with lining up a few of the shots and didn’t manage to get them all, but I loved how chill the game was and that there wasn't any pressure to get things right - I still had fun playing despite not being able to get every single picture.
Also, there's something so cute (and a little bit lonely) about this robot wandering around taking photos. Would love to know more about it's story and what's going on! Maybe if there were more clues sprinkled throughout the world or hints after every time it took a photo? I know that's asking a lot for a game jam game though - I think there's so much potential with this game. You did a wonderful job!
This is such good feedback and gives me a lot of ideas for future iterations too! I did have a very grand story and ideas of puzzles but i realised by the 3rd day working on this that my original scope is way too big for a game jam lol. The logic for checking for a "correct" photo is simply matching the player position and camera angles. It's very crude and limited what i could do in terms of ratings. I do have some ideas on how to make this better so hopefully i will have time to add it to this game after the jam. Thank you for playing my game and taking the time to leave such great feedback and ideas!
The game was very chill. all the nature sounds and the atmosphere were really relaxing.
i managed to snap the first 2 pictures. for the fourth picture i was pretty sure that i was standing at the correct spot, but the game just didnt want to accept it sadly. so i was not sure if i had to snap all pictures in the correct order as shown in the helper screen, because i skipped the third one. also i think i watered the trees? or maybe i was just imagining it but after toggling the rain the trees had leafs i think :D
Im sorry i didnt play the whole game so i didnt experience the ending. but for what i saw it was really relaxing experience.
My only complaint is that i wish there was a sprint button for my character to be able to run faster. The motorcycle sound in the audio was breaking the immersion a bit.
I had fun playing and it reminded me a bit of a marioparty minigame i played recently on switch :D
It was a fun experience, good job :D
Thank you so much for playing my game! You weren’t imagining the rain and the leaves :). I probably should have made the rain effect more obvious! Apart from the first photo you can actually do the photos in any order :)
Also sorry about the photo recognition bug. The game current tracks the camera angle and player position to determine if a photo is accepted or not. As you can imagine this can be a bit janky. I want to implement a more sophisticated approach when I have time.
thanks again for checking out my game!
This was chill and relaxing. I enjoyed this creative approach, and I also liked the fitting narrative. Gaining back memories from pictures is a nice concept. It took me a while to figure out the mask mechanic, though… I like the aesthetics of the game a lot; they add to the chill vibe. Nice choice of SFX as well. Great job.
This project really forced me to learn a lot about shaders and generally making a 3D scene look consistent. Who knew it takes so much work! Anyway, thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it!
Very unique concept! Although this game isn't really particularly challenging (the challenging part is finding how to activate the mask (kinda spoiled myself by reading the comments but in the end still found the hint), the map design and sound effects make navigating the game worlds a soothing experience. Did hope that the narrative element of the game was stronger though, but I think it's a good thing that this game left me longing for more.
I took a lot of inspiration from Pokemon Snap (the original on N64!), hence the photo mechanic and on-rails navigation. Agree with you about the narrative. I had so much more i wanted to do but unfortunately was limited by time (and my skills!). Thank you for playing and the feedback!
I liked your take on the theme - and taking pics was so relaxing. Thanks, good game!
Thank you for playing, really appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed it!
Really cool and unique concept for a puzzle game. It was super clear to me how the masks fit in and what to do with it. The control listed in the game was "?" and when I press "R" it made the leaves load in. But overall, a super cool concept! Well done!
The ? Is meant to tell the player that they need to figure out how to activate the mask by looking at clues dotted around the map! I definitely could have sign posted it better but ran out of time. Thanks for playing my game and leaving feedback!
Interesting concept, has kind of a Myst vibe if you have ever played that game. Well done.
not yet but the remastered version has been on my list for a while. Sounds like I need to bump it up on my list of games to play! thanks for playing my game and taking the time to leave feedback!
Really cool game! I like the concept of the godot bot getting amnesia
your comment made me realise i should have called it something like "out of memory error"!
