The mechanics here are cool, but the fight definitely needs to be rebalanced - Taking no upgrades at all, you can still run up to the boss and kill him before he even fires the first wave of projectiles.
Really cool art style, and being able to switch up the runes was fun! I was able to beat the boss pretty easily. I feel like if you expanded upon what you have and added more content it would be hard for me to stop playing / experimenting with the runes. But overall nicely done!
Your game is fun. The drawings have a really cool unique charm :D i can set my own difficulty/balancing pretty much which is actually quite ingenious system imo. i think your idea has so much potential and is a super creative way to balance the game. i think that masksystem would cater to a wide audience. it could be the hardest pain to beat the boss or the biggest steamroll easymode and everything in between, so something for everyone.
i would have loved to see some more negative runes, because the boss mechanics are a bit too easy for me even without any runes, even 5x juggernaut felt a bit too easy.
but i understand the time constraints and you already mentioned you had no time left for complex boss patterns.
For such a short time you made a really cool game, nothing felt off in the game other than it beeing a bit too easy for me.
Great Job :D !
5 juggernaut meta
Had fun switching around the runes to see what i would get
Hey guys, very interesting concept, I like the possibility of being able to mix different buffs by choosing different runes. The game could be a bit more challenging, but it works fine as it is.
Btw: I think I found a bug on the final screen. Seems like a victory, but then my character died in the background
Thanks for the review. Yeah, I didn't really have time to balance the difficulty due to cutting it really close on time, but I'm happy with what we were able to submit.
For the bug I thought I had fixed that by adding a dead state, but turns out there was unused code that reactivated the boss if you walked away. Thanks for the report!
Really great proof of concept. The scale is really well done too. A lot of other 2d games are too close or too slow with the player movement but this feels really crisp. Even though I beat the game in 2 minutes was rewarding. Would defiently add screenshots for more engagement!
I'm glad that the movement felt good. Thanks for playing!
Quick little game but it was fun. The art style is really good as well :)
Thanks for playing!
Fun little game, I loved how the boss looked and I thought it controlled really smoothly too!
Thanks for playing! I'm glad it feels good for how little testing there was.
Quick and simple - thought it felt nice in the movement and combat - loved the mechanic of putting runes in the mask... but wasn't sure if placement mattered as there was one slot for each rune available - there was an X but didn't know if that meant "rune times rune means better effect" or just decoration. I think that that part of it could have been the major mechanic - really strategize about which runes to field and where. Combat was too easy (and as a turn based fan, I never say that for real time combat...lol).
The rune placement doesn't matter. The x is just art for the mask, but in hindsight I can see where that'd be confusing. That does give me some ideas on more advanced placement logic. Thanks for the feedback!
I enjoyed the creative visual design of the boss and the smooth main character animations! The idea of putting runes into slots to customize your character is great, I think it would be better if you couldn't put (e.g.) all damage runes, for example, as it feels way too powerful.
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the game is really unbalanced because we cut it really close to the deadline, but I'm happy that we were able to get all the major mechanics in.
