My last minute vote ! It was really fun to play. I feel that you took some shortcut to finish in time but overall the puzzle are fun. The handmade art make it really unique. Congrats !
Thanks!
Finally figured out the box code. Slightly guessed the last two symbols since I was not 100% certain what the corresponding items on the poster represented. Really well made for having minimal time for puzzles after finishing the art. I've made a couple escape games for jams too and they can get complicated, both with coding and creating puzzles. I can't think of any suggestions beyond add a sound track (which I know you're already doing) and if you have time, add sound effects for some items, like a click when pressing the arcade button or unlocking a lock.
Actually the code was pretty easy like if u clicked on smth the camera gose to another location making you think that the camera zoomed
And the art took me most time
I actually finished the game still I want to add sfx and the last puzzle
Thanks for playing and for the feedback❤️
I agree having the scenes change is not too complicated, but setting up a working inventory like yours (outside of engines with built in ones) has always been really complicated for me. In a lot of my past escape games, I just skipped having an inventory with selectable items because creating code for it was just too complicated, though I have been working on an inventory template in GDevelop I really should try out sometime.
thanks :)
For a first jam this one is pretty good actually! I liked the art and the blood around each room, making it a bit eerie. Like others mentioned, no music is a bit bland so you might need to add that one, while most of them are logic there's one part i got stuck, the scissors, i don't know where should i go, for this type of game i think you need to give some hint so that the player will not stuck too long. Congrats on completing your first jam!
Thanks for your feedback, actually it's my 2nd jam not the first.
Spoilers
If you used a brush on the paint you will find 4 symbols every symbol represent a diff room each room will have a unique blood splash put them in order in the chest then the chest will open
For a first time jam entry this is pretty good!
Most of the puzzles worked good, and were logical. I had trouble identifying some of the items I collected (it took me a while to identify a bucket for example), but most of them were ok.
What drags your game down is the complete lack of any sound. Check out freesound.org, for sound effects and https://mobygratis.com/ for music- both of them are free, provided you credit the authors.
I didn't finish the game. Here's where I got stuck- I have scissors, dropped coin into the machine (but it doesn't have power, and I don't have a screwdriver. I can't open the box- I try the symbols on the walls, but they don't seem to work? I tried them in different order, but I'm missing it.
Over all- this is a good start. Keep on jamming, learning, and you'll be making solid games in no time!
Thanks for feedback, actually you wont use any of those in this not finished version you will find a brush in a the mouse hole take it then head to the painting on the wall you will find symbols on the paint each symbol will represent diff room on this rooms you will find blood symbols on the wall put them in the right order you will open the chest !
THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE!
I'll play your game again, after the jam- this time I'll finish it!
thx :)
This was a really fun game, you should be proud of yourself, great entry!! It feels very much like one of the flash escape room games I played back in the day on addictinggames or something (that's a good thing). The presentation is great, it has hand-drawn flash game aesthetic that fits perfectly with this type of game. The puzzle mechanics were fun and made sense logically, when something happened it always made sense and felt reasonable. Finding something in the mouse hole at the bottom of the wall was a really cool moment (although I have to question whether a broom would actually fit in there lol). The Dexter easter egg was a great touch too.
The attention to detail in each scene was impressive, there's lots of little details like the blood splatter on the walls or drool on the snarling dog that make everything feel well put together. Some sfx or background music would go a long way to improving the overall atmosphere, and the clip you posted in the discord with music does a great job of that. Unfortunately, I got stuck after finding the scissors but until then I had a fun time exploring the world and figuring out the puzzles. I'm also curious about the secrets of the arcade machine.
Overall, I think you have a great start to an escape room game and adding some sfx/music and finishing out some of the puzzles (scissors, arcade machine) would take the game to the next level. I really liked the hand-drawn art too. Awesome entry, keep up the good work!!
Thanks so much for your feedback,
Spoilers:
the puzzle you got stuck on, there is symbols in the painting That leads to a different rooms on this rooms you will find symbols with blood copy those in order you will find the code for the chest.
As people have mentioned in some comments, you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself, because the game you made definitely has several elements that deserve recognition and prove your skills as a developer.
The first thing I notice as an artist and dev is that even though you may not have advanced knowledge of art, you managed to maintain a harmonious atmosphere between the larger areas and the more zoomed-in ones. It really felt like everything was part of the same environment, and even better, it gave the impression that it was the object in the environment being viewed from a closer perspective. Sure, there’s room for improvement in composition, like the toilet water, but I don’t think you should worry about that right now.
The second point, and the most important, is that I’m terrible at escape room games, but in your game, I was able to easily figure out what needed to be done to get each item and progress a bit. Of course, some things were slightly confusing for me (maybe it’s my amateur escape room side), like the correct order of symbols to open the small box on the table. I noticed that you made the symbols on the walls stand out, which is great, but you could add more complexity, like randomizing the order of the symbols and indicating to the player whether it's the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th digit through another object in the room (like plaques, for example). I hope that example doesn’t sound confusing haha.
And third, but not least, you managed to deliver a good game even without sound effects and background music. That’s really impressive because sound is a fundamental part of the user experience, but even with its absence in your game, we can still feel the atmosphere through the interactions.
Yes, maybe there were time management issues, but that happens to everyone, even the most experienced. So, take that as a lesson, and next time you’ll be able to better decide what to cut or keep in the game, being aware of your own pace and adapting the idea accordingly based on the time left.
Congratulations on the game! Keep up your effort, and you’ll undoubtedly create amazing things. Good luck in the jam!
Omg thank you, I was planning to make more complex things but the time management failed me. The mobile gonna have a good use the chest that you got the key from I wasn't planned to make it for the last key I wanted to make it give you a piece of a puzzle you would solve and I wanted to make a story and add cut scenes I drew them but I couldn't add. And lastly thank you for your feedback ❤️
You've been too hard on yourself in discord. This is nicely done, even if it's not finished! While I did struggle with what to do next sometimes, I never felt like anything was impossible to solve, which I think is the point of these kind of games. The hand-made art is very charming.
I wish the game had music/sound. And for a couple of the items, it was hard to tell exactly what they were at first.
All-in-all, this was a fantastic effort!
I am working on the next update i will complete the game and i will add sfx/home made music, i am trying to learn it for a while now,thx btw for this feedback :)
even though it's unfinished, this was actually a nice escape room game. you should be more confident in your work!
for some feedback, i like the graphic sort of static effect you put on your game. gives it a nice charm. for your finished version, I would also recommend and intro and some backstory as thats always something I like in games. one thing though, sometimes I couldn't tell what the items were lol.. i was confused on what the bucket was till I filled it with water then had to think about it haha
also, this is all one room but i would like to know how the items flow together, like a toilet and one foot next to it is a seemingly evil dog lol. so i would just elaborate more on the layout of the room if you ever have time to add onto it.
overall, nice game! goodluck on the jam
Thanks for your feedback!
no problem :D
cool game , nice gameplay , nice art
but thir is not sound effects or anything, you dont need music and dont add it. but sound effects it halal to use if it not simllar to music .
gl.
Thx for feedback. I wanted to add sound but I didn't have time to do.next update I wil fix all the bugs and finish the game and add sound.
I have trouble with my web build too
