I swear to god i've been a good hour playing this game. Love it.
bro stop 🤭🤭 ur gassing me up Lmao. Thank you 🤗
The theme is clearly well-executed here. While I’ve seen some similar ideas before, I think you stood out with the way the player controls the pentagon they’re "stuck" in.
However, I did feel a bit confused about how to play, even after going through the tutorial. Despite that, it was fun to destroy enemies and try to survive as long as possible. The particle effects gave a great sense of satisfaction when defeating enemies and bouncing off the walls.
Since the game is score-based, adding a scoreboard would be a great idea to boost replayability. Another option could be setting goals like bronze, silver, and gold trophies with predefined times (just be careful not to make them too hard haha).
The sound effects paired really well with the music and ambiance. It has a cool old-school aesthetic that definitely makes everything more attractive and immersive.
I think the only relevant suggestion I’d have for you right now would be to add power-ups for the player—like speed boosts, health recovery, or even things to hinder the enemies, like freezing them completely or partially (reducing their speed or resistance). This would significantly increase the strategic element.
Congratulations on the game, I really enjoyed it! Best of luck with the jam!
Thank you for your detailed feedback. These are really good power up ideas, and i can imagine also doing like a super fast bounce attack haha - the foundation is good. In the original version, i had it so that the enemies freeze while you are bouncing, but this wasn’t as tense Lol. I should definitely explore these ideas. And good luck to you also!
Nice satisfying game. evewrything is good and juicy. my only critique is that it's not that deep. i found that just standing still and launching my ball was enough to get a ton of points.
Other than that, very polished and engaging game. Well done! 💯
Yes i agree, the game could benefit from power ups or something. Thanks playing!
Really fun arcade game, nice work!! There's a really nice trade off having the movement locked when you're not in the center that forces you to think about your actions rather than constantly shooting and moving around the map. Lots of polish (both visual and auditory) that gives the game a good amount of juice: the ball trails, the glow effect on the pentagon when you bounce off the sides, the alarm beeping as you run out of health. The grid background fits the aesthetic perfectly. It all works well together for a cohesive and complete experience. You nailed the theme. I've played a couple other games that have done the sphere bouncing around in a pentagon thing, but you took it to the next level by letting the player move the pentagon itself and traverse the limited space of the grid. I think adding an online leaderboard would add a lot to the overall experience and add a lot of replay-ability. Great entry!!
Thank you for your nice comment. Yeh, you really understood what i was aiming for :) and a leaderboard is a brilliant idea, i just didnt know you could do that on itch haha.
Bounce bounce bounce! I drew a pentagram! I played for 3:12 with a score of 646.330. I'm guessing everyone is probably beating me but I gave it my best! 😅 #skillissue on my part, hehe! Space to get back to the middle is a good button choice as well.
Nah, thats a solid score. Thanks for playing :)
Really liked this once I got into it. Satisying to score, great sound design with the key of the bumps complimenting the music. Maybe slightly more hand holding as to how to stop? Had to read the comments as I think I missed it the first time. Generally though really good job.
Ah! I didn’t write the space key action in the description. Thank you <3
This game fits the theme well. Pretty solid gameplay loop. My biggest issue was understanding all the game mechanics. I like what you did with the health bar, but it's not super intuitive. I think something like a line of circles would have helped make it easier to track the health instead of the indicator traveling through open space. Maybe even make the circles disappear as the indicator passes them.
Also, I didn't understand the ability to move the player's pentagon at first. I realized later that your player circle needs to be in the center and not moving.
Good job with your game overall, it was fun to play!
Thank you for your feedback ☺️
Bouncing the ball against the walls of the pentagon was so fun - great mechanic for the theme! Both the art and sound were clean and minimalistic in a good way. My main piece of feedback was that it was hard to tell why I was losing health. I might've missed it in the tutorial but having a more visual indication would've been helpful. Overall, great job with this game!
Thank you for playing! Yes, the reason too lose health was mentioned in the tutorial, too many enemies causes it to go down faster.
Really fun game, and uses the theme to define the gameplay.. i loved the3 different combos which are also sort of determined by the shape of the pentagon, so really feels quite unique. The progression in enemies is really good, with harder and more enemies coming as the time passes and the difficulty scaling is also quite good. I also liked the popping sound effect, very satisfying :) One thing i might add is to give some sort of progression for the player character (unless ive missed it, please let me know :)) which could be some powerups or level ups. I think that would give some sort of goal to reach towards..
Other than that, its a really polished great looking game, good work!
Thank you, power ups is a good idea!
Good take on the theme- the space limitation is instantly obvious, and it affects the gameplay. Other than that- I liked how you used particles and tiny dots (or should I say circles) in the background to make the graphics more interesting. Audio made the game feel old-school. Nice.
As for the gameplay... I think I didn't get it in full. I bounced, destroyed pentagons, and it all worked well, but I didn't feel like I had any plan to it. It felt a bit random to me. Then again, I played a couple of rounds. And it's cool you made a tutorial!
thanks you! i agree, reading these comments, there could have been more strategy involved. i suppose its more like how long can you survive.
Fun experience with creative use of shapes and polished visuals. While the game play idea is solid, the lack of clear goals or challenge keeps it from reaching its full potential, and audio remains fairly average.Great entry with potential though! This is what I thought:
Game play / Fun / Engagement ●●●●○
The controls feel smooth and responsive, and I really like the core idea of the game. However, the losing condition feels too easy, because you generate to fast. It’s simple to destroy the pentagons, but unclear when or how you actually get hit. Adding clearer feedback and a more challenging progression would help a lot. Still, the overall game play is engaging enough to earn 4 out of 5.
Art Style / Visuals ●●●●●
The visuals are the strongest aspects of the game. Circles and pentagons are used in a very clean, consistent, and creative way. I especially liked how you incorporated the health bar into the shape-based design. It feels both functional and thematic. This deserves a full 5 out of 5.
Audio / Sound Design ●●●○○
The audio fits the game and works fine, but it doesn’t stand out. The soundtrack and effects are functional but not particularly memorable, so this category gets the average 3 out of 5.
Theme ●●●●○
The interpretation of “limited space” works conceptually, but since you can freely move around, it doesn’t always feel like space is truly restricted. Still, the idea is there and contributes to the design, so I rate it 4 out of 5.
thanks for the detailed feedback! yeh is did have alot of ups and downs deciding the health bar speeds Lol. in the tutorial its mentioned that enemies in the barrier cause health to go down, so you dont actually get hit. but im glad that the controls felt smooth and you liked the visuals!
I like the idea .. it's a bit unique and fits well with in the giving theme
my only problems I see is the text in the tutorial being so hard to read because all the dots so maybe change the text color would be great .. and lack of content which is ok because it's a 9 days jam game .. but after playing it for some minutes I didn't have a reason to came back..
over all ..I think the game have a potential if it turn out to a full game
thanks, im sorry you had issues with the text.
Love the way it looks, and it is suuuuuper satisfying to bounce around. I'm glad you had the tutorial - but I think you could probably just launch the player into the tutorial straight away if it is their first time playing! It's a very clean game, if a little slow paced for my liking. Not a huge criticism, though!
I would like some incentive to use the varied mechanics, I can imagine that there is a lot of depth to be discovered here but I didn't really feel a pull to come back! It's only a jam game though, so that's not too much of a criticism 😁
Thanks for the feedback! yeh i agree about the mechanics, maybe if i take this further some other shapes might help make it feel more relevant.
The game has some interesting mechanics but it doesnt really give the player an incentive to interact with them in a meaningful way. If you could somehow give the other mechanics more value then i could see this being an enjoyable experience.
fair point! thanks for playing !
Fun game. Nice consistent minimalistic visuals, satisfying sounds. I like the grid of dots to help give a sense of movement and speed .
The rotating outer pentagon is a nice idea, but I wasn;t really able to make use of it. I mostly kept dragging directly at the enemies with nog real tactical need to rotate or move it.
Good stuff!
yeh i agree with you, the rotating is abit useless. but its fun to make it spin fast haha (on my trackpad). maybe a certain orientation might suit you better? or a little adjustment to try and make a shape.
i was hoping the strategy would come from making star or hourglass combos, but yeh it needs balancing. thanks!
I tried to wing it without the tutorial and got confused. But once I played the tutorial I had fun!
I loved the bounce sounds, but the music seemed a bit loud; maybe some balancing could be done.
Overall great job, and good job finishing!
I played it on mobile and enjoyed it for three minutes (twice). Yeah, same question—why did I die? Lol. There wasn’t much strategy, I just swiped randomly. The movement, the bouncing, enemy destruction—all felt quite satisfying. I liked the concept of the enemies having multiple lives indicated by changing colors. Granted, the game is incomplete, but the potential is there, clearly. A solid effort for a short jam.
did you play the tutorial? to be fair, the ui might not be visible on mobile, and the wasd keys are required to move (and by extension, play the tutorial). so there is a health 'bar' at the bottom, which goes down faster depending on how many enemies are within your barrier, and you will die if that reaches 0. but thank you for your comment!
I did play the tutorial. The health bar is not visible on my device. The bottom of the game area is truncated.
ah ok. sorry its not suitable for mobile!
Took me a while to understand the game mechanic, but after that it was a really fun experience. Also clean visuals, good job.
thank you!
