Nice idea, but definitely a lot of bugs that others have stated already, I just was able to move past every piece and got to the boss, (and even then I at some point the attacks stopped working, soft locked essentially), but that makes sense with the 3 days time frame, well done!
Nice idea but I didn't understood the attack and moove during fighting
It's simple:
- You have 12 cards, of which a maximum of 6 are available at a time (enemies have 6 and 3, respectively);
- Each card has 2 sets of actions: black and white (they are available when located on a cell of the corresponding color);
- A set of actions can contain 1 or 2 actions (movement and/or attack);
- Each action has 1 of 5 sets of coordinates (1:0, 1:1, 2:0, 2:1, 2:2);
- The set of coordinates indicates how many cells the target is located (1:0 - one of four neighboring cells, 1:1 - one of four neighboring cells diagonally, 2:1 - one of eight options for a knight move);
- You can move only on free (not occupied by trees and enemies) cells;
- An attack can be made on an enemy or (if this is not possible) on a free cell;
- If there are 2 actions in the set, they are performed in the specified sequence (if you move to a cell of a different color while performing the first action, the second action from the same set is still performed).
Okay tahnk you I will retry it now
Very nice creative concept! Good for roguelite implementation with crazy card types and upgradet figures
I think most of my feedback has been addressed by other comments already, so I'll just say that this was a really creative idea and I think with a little polish it could be something pretty amazing! Great interpretation of the theme too - now that I think of it I'm surprised we didn't see more chess-themed games :)
Good job, this is definitely the most creative game I've come across so far! I really like the idea and the cards are cool to use, but I honestly can't figure out what move set my opponent has? I've tried to predict what they do and I can't seem to find a pattern so it kinda feels like rng at this point. Really neat idea and with some extra polish I think it could go far (I might just be stupid and have missed something too).
Nice game! I think the battle system is a bit too random and could benefit from some determinism :D Like, maybe give the pieces a set of standard allowed moves (like in actual chess, lol :D) and then just occasionally use cards to go beyond that.
From the very beginning, the piece cards should have exactly the moves of the corresponding chess pieces. With a little randomness. But I made a mistake somewhere. I knew about it, but there was almost no time left. And I focused on other things. The result - now the game can be completed. So, I hope the choice was right!)
Love the concept. Good game.
HELLO Fellow godot dev :D ,I love chess so this game is really great for me
Creative concept. I just ran past all the pieces and killed the white king. I saved the world :D
5/5 Creativity... I like the idea you can improve this...
The blend of chess and card mechanics is honestly a creative idea (also because I love chess (: I still see potential for this to be developed further. The only issue I had was with the view, although the scrolling feature helped a ton, I was thinking of perhaps only showing sessions of the board as the player moved across to center attention on the battles and prevent unnecessary scrolling. Enjoyed this entry!
Auto-scrolling and automatic zooming when one of the shapes approaches the edge of the screen should have helped here. But a lot had to be cut off. Time...
Totally understand, time constraints can limit features. You still did a great job! Thanks for the effort :)
Very cool game, love the combat. The res was too much for my web browser and was quite difficult to get into view. Other than that was fun
This is a really solid mechanic, and a lot of fun to chew on as a puzzle. That said, it felt as though almost all of my options were worthless for most turns, and I was just completely at the mercy of rng. Really creative, and great use of theme.
Cool concept, it's like RPG chess. The scrolling on the web page was conflicting with the game's scrolling which feels buggy, however.
Good job, be sure rate mine (:
Thank you. I'll rate it. I try to rate all games. 96... Where did they get so many?!!!
Took me a bit to get ahold of the mechanics, but it's a really fun puzzle! I love the premise especially, and had a fun time figuring it out. If I where to give one suggestion it would be that I'd love to be able to control the camera with arrow keys / have a recenter button but that's such a nitpick, great work overall.
Thanks for poking me in the re-center button. I didn't think. I didn't have time to control the camera with the keys, like many other things.
All good, I completely get it, just figured I'd toss in my two cents, it's a really fun game tho don't sweat it ^^
I like chess and I like how you tied to theme to the black and white pieces of chess. What I really cant get is the moves of the game. Its kinda confusing what you're supposed to pick and how you properly combat white.
Yes, there are too many random values in the enemy cards, which makes it very difficult to create a strategy. And after defeat, they are generated anew, which does not make the task easier. But it creates the possibility of a convenient enemy.
