Achievement suggestions:
- Speedpainter: Spend less than five/ten/??? minutes on each individual picture (or a bit longer on a whole set of little things, like a tileset). Maybe this could have different tiers for how short the timer is?
- No Ragrets: Create at least one picture (or all of them?) without ever using the undo button (if digital) or an eraser – allowing for occasional accidental button-clicking out of habit.
- (Can’t think of a name): Use at least one art medium that you’ve never tried before, or have only tried once.
- Achievement-ievement: Include similar achievements (or something inspired by this game jam’s achievements) in your game itself. (Just for fun.)
- Above and Beyond: Don’t use any imagery you/your team didn’t make; all of it is your/your team’s own work.
- But it’s uneven!: Leave at least one imperfection that really bugs you unfixed – could be a typo in your title, a glaring stray pixel, et cetera. If on a team, this should ideally be something in your own work and not someone else’s.
- Grrrr….: This one is a bit more geared towards digital art, but I’ve had fun with it in the past. Choose your least favorite brush, or a random one you really dislike if you can’t pick just one. Draw an entire image with only that brush.
- Where’d the gravity go?: Draw your images sideways or upside-down and then flip them. (Harder than it sounds, at least for me!)
- Pffft, who needs an onion?: Draw an animation one frame at a time, start to finish, without referencing any other frames, even by using gridlines or other tools to keep things aligned. (Name referencing the ‘onion skin’ tool that shows adjacent frames in animation software.)
- I can’t even see my comfort zone from up here: Draw something you’ve previously decided you just don’t have the skill to draw, or that is clearly way too ambitious for your current skill level. (But don’t burn yourself out!)
- Telephone: If on a team – collaborate on a set of images that are supposed to be aesthetically matching (or even images of the same character/subject), but you can’t show each other anything until you’re all done. You just have to go off descriptions. Hard mode: Do this with an animation, with only minimal tweaks to make it work.
No pressure at all to use all or even any of these, of course, and feel free to change the names or wording on any you do use. I just wanted to toss out some ideas that seemed fun and then I kept having more ideas.
Also, not an achievement itself, but it would be fun to encourage people to draw their own achievement badges for the ones they accomplished – or maybe draw them for each other, if they want to?
