very sigma

The art is a mess

-------

It holds no cohesion or constant style. The player pot looks clay like textured

the bugs look like plastic.

the background is paper

the moth guy looks like a low poly 3d model

also that crab thing was very 3d. 

The clouds are like also paper but more 3d breaking the 2d look it had in a start and the sun is a totally diferent style

The plant is 2d and with other style to everything else

You see what I mean, You have waay too many styles in only one small scene. Nothing seems to fit with anything

But most importantly. I don't grasp how this fits with "take control"

i reached a tower that said +100 power and my character permanetly dissapeared

Mixed opinions.

Pros:

The game has a proper control and moves fluid enought to feel good.feels very nice to control and its dynamic in its movements. The scale tweens are very well implemented and make the player feel squishy and shapeless in a dynamic way for a ghost. the slow motion darkening and arrow help a lot to the use and make it feel user friendly

Cons

The art is simply horrible in every sense.: Points

- When you work with a pixel art, soo intense (Pixels are big enought to be seen by the player) pixels follow an scale, by an example. most games prioritize for their pixels to follow a common size and not vary much for a comon scale of the resources. Here many pixels are clearly diferent sizes, by example the big guy and regular cultists

-the rooms were made with images, not a bad thing but terribly done, by example the basement with stone tiles was all messy, You could easily fix it making a tilemap with some blocks. use the tile map tool and you would always have your blocks alling in a perfect grind.

I was able to pass the game without possesing any single object moving in a straight line.

I already know the anime, bruh, that is how Im able to tell it sounds similar bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

Was this some kind of joke game? 


After seeing the explanation with stock iamges and the game over screen I m convinced this is some kind of ironic joke I'm not getting.

GOOD game. smooth and nice to play.

Only one point of critic. Firstly I was confused how it matched with the game jam theme. But them I read the description. It would be nice if the point that relations the game with the  game-jam theme was actually somewhere in the gameplay. Becouse if not for reading the game description. I couldn't tell how it fits with the theme

Pros

Properly aniamted, the character has carisma despite being a turquoise square with legs. the eyes are woobly enought to give a cartoony dynamic effect. the legs look as fluid as the movement and feels good to control it.

Cons

Is not a game proper for a Jam. specially becouse the attention spam of players is usually very short. Not to talk bad about players but more for the amount of games uploaded to the page. with means your game can't get the proper time of its gameplay unless you give them a reason to hook into it.

By example, the game punish badly for every slip yet there is no truly a reason for the player to continue it. So it makes the game very easy to drop for the common passing player. If the game added a clear goal from the start that would be an improvement.

Also take by example the gameplay here in the comment section. The person recording didn't even reach to see the phone animation

Wasted assets. You could recycle and optimize much better what you did. By example you made a nice animated tree at the start yet until were I reached never saw it again. You could repeat it. turn it arround even streach it or shrunk it to vary and it would look nice as long you did modify it in a smaller way that wouldn't mess the quality. Or other example. your background is way to simple. you could draw another parallax at diferent motion speed for some depth. Or even re-use the one you already have with a copy at diferent speed. As I said. good base, bad execution

Technical view: The jump sound starts everytime when I press W even while in air and not jumping. Also try adding a pitch variation to repetitive sounds. you could fix it adding a "Randomfloatinrange(X1,X2)" in the pitch sound configuration. It makes repetitive sounds be diferent at every use.

How to make it better?: Add some zones that allow player to actually save or some kind of check points. PLayers would be more eager to try hard things as long the previous effort is not just being trow away.

Random: At the first I thought it was just a concidense the fact that the song sounds....WAAAY TOOOO..similar to certain anime ending. Them I saw your name and realiced it was no coincidense.

Try changing the upload to an HTML Export instead of a downloadable, the jam needs to be playable on browser. Most people gona ignore the game if not browser playable even if having de gd.games link

could you fix the game, its imposible to pocess the enemies, for some reason when I put the mouse in the game window it dissapears.

i wasn t going for metroidvania nor retro style. Is a game of pre-renderized graphics

Try using the E more often (dodge) when you jump into swarms of drones. Belive me, using the dodge more often saves toons of Hp I tell you this from hours of play testing. And if you die is from lack energy of the top left bar. Maybe becouse the lack of breaking stuff or from being too damaged (you lost energy when shoot, touched by drones, hit by robots or reached by a misile)

Not really, its jus bad, I can't lie 🤦🏻‍♂️. I don't know why everyone just keep ignoring the fact that is waaaaaaay too buggy and waaaaaaay too raw. And don't say at me a game Jam game has little time to be done. Other solo developers made good games with smaller scopes, bugless and well closed. I just can't ignore all the mistakes that came from trying to make it big and fail in the process.

Absolutely perfect, life changing, before playing this game I had cancer and lived in a cardboard box, It rained a constantly and there was a romanian guy who told me if I didn't leave he would steal my skeleton to make onion stew. 


Now after playing this game, I'm rich, succesfull, also my cancer dissapeared and instead I got superpowers and now I can fly.

-GAMEPLAY-

Very good, fun and simple in a good way. the character feels slightly clanky in a start but its good since it can be upgraded trought the game. the controls are confortable to the hand. and it talks very good about itself the fact its fun over repetetion

-ART-

Pleasing to the eye

-Conclution-

the game is already good, the character in a start is strong enought to be overpowered yet weak enought to make the progression sastisfying, I apreciate a lot the lack of bugs. it speaks very well of the polish. The gameplay could be more varied and extended trought upgrades that added diferent moves or attacks ( maybe skill all made with the same buttom that once choosen made the other not be abalible to choose)


only bad aspect- the souls are way too small, maybe a little bigger or a slightly wider zone of collection would make it more confortable

its a bad game. I have not many good things to say about it apart from the voice acting and maybe the concept of the big avatar battle form. yet its incredibly half coocked just to not say direclty raw.

----STATE OF THE GAME----

Umplayable, common to bugs, usually after dying I end teleported to a test room unable to continue. sometimes the fae just flies away from the screen and in more to one time i fell out and died on supposed solid ground.

----GAMEPLAY--- 

mediocre, is not to being against simplicity, but the range attack of the protagonist is very weak,that would be okay if at least it would offer some knockback or response to the player from their attack. But no, the skeletons just continue like nothing when attacked. it wouldn t be a problem if they had less life, but they are walking tanks ignoring any response the player gives to them.  Posible correction, give the MC attack a small knockback or make them weaker,is frustrating to spam J yet seeing the enemies doesn t seem to care specially with their tanky life.

Lacks more variation to the MC, considering the main attack is so weak and the main theme is "overpower" at least the main range attack could be charged or something. Or if it is propper to the gameplay to keep the MC weak. maybe you could give her a dodge or something to avoid clanky gameplay. If her reason is to be a node for the FAE them, the MC should be maybe faster, more mobile and sneaky to reach parts the FAE can t, while the fae being the muscle.

----ART----

Ok, not my taste in art, but I accept it has ok quality in a start. Despite this, post first level, the desing becomes very plain an unspired. the animations of Fae are ok. I would talk better of them, since I noticed they were suposed to change the attack animation if you attack more than once (changing the arm to attack) yet for some reason, the animations overlaped when I played. the seccond one was interrumpted the seccond one, with means I would be sent back to the default animation in a repetitive cycle

----CONCLUSION----

The duality of the parts its not good implemented or executed, if the Fae was the muscle, the mc should be the legs. making the player constantly have to choice and change from mobility to damage. the FAE can keep its paper in this, yet the MC falls back clumsily in its role.

Here is mine. It says "downloadable" but you can play it in gd. Games without problem, the downloadable one is just for the submision for the judges, is the same game that is in gd.games

just to ask. Did you reach the boss or one of the 3 endings? 

And recomendation, use the air dodge when jumping into a lot of drones, it really saves you a lot of hp to use the dodge more often. I tell you this from hours of play testing
