I'm using Affinity Designer to make them, so I have the editables for that. It does export SVG files - I haven't done that yet but I can do that in the next update!

Sorry I missed replying to this comment, The ones you shouldn't use for commercial use are the ones listed as free on our dafont page (this link should show you  23 fonts in total): https://www.dafont.com/chequered-ink.d6231?l[]=10&l[]=1

except CI Game Dev and Teeny Tiny Pixls are allowed. They're just usually free.

And not all of those fonts are in the pack anyway because we left out some of them on purpose to avoid any issues.... but just in case any of them snuck in those are the ones to watch out for.

Not all at once, however you can download them from our Fontspace profile one by one: Chequered Ink - Designer

We treat the fonts there as covered by the All Fonts Pack license if you have it, even if we haven't gotten around to adding them to the pack yet.

Not long if you know where everything is exactly. Less than 5 minutes when I'm testing it myself, but if you're exploring for the first time it probably takes longer.

Yes! We have a couple of smaller packs - the Cartoon Pack and the EveryPixel font pack, but ALL of the fonts are included in the All Fonts Pack here.

For some of the simpler ones and pixel fonts - Fontstruct, for everything else we use High Logic Font Creator :)

Unfortunately no way to see the instructions again, we'll take that on board! With the mouse if you hold left-click long enough it will mark a square as a pumpkin, but right-click would be good to add too.

Yes - all the sprites are PNG images, so they can be used in any engine that supports PNG.

Hi, we used our own font Provicali which you can find here: Provicali Font - Free Download

Sorry about that! This link works I think, just posting here in case anyone else needs it: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/6y7hlsyisit2rb0bjepzh/AKOfmeyr1gS2wtKC-a34_U0?rlk..

There are a very (very) small handful with other characters like Greek & Cyrillic character sets but most of them have only latin.

There aren't any with full characters sets that include CJK for example, because there are only two of us and we're not familiar enough with those characters to do them justice.

If you think it is, we'll double check where we got the stock photo and see if we need to change it - because like I said, we're 100% happy to rectify any mistakes, why wouldn't we be?

But are you going to apologise for clearly defaming us when there is a mountain of well-documented evidence that we have made all our fonts ourselves over a long career (longer than the existence of AI?). It doesn't seem like you're going to, I'm just wondering.

We have been in business for 10 years. One of us (Allison) has been making fonts for even longer than that and her earlier catalogue of fonts is included in our total of 1200 fonts. You can see our entire catalogue of fonts on dafont here, sorted by date, with the oldest being from 2011: https://www.dafont.com/chequered-ink.d6231?page=46&sort=date Most of them were made long, long before the existence of LLMs & Generative AI, and none of the ones made since use it either.

You can read this article here from January about how we make our graphics, fonts and games by hand using Aseprite, Affinity Designer, Fontstruct, High Logic Font Creator and GameMaker: What we use to make our games, graphics and fonts - Chequered Ink

We don't use AI in our ads. We use stock images a lot of the time, and we try to make sure they're either explicitly tagged as no-ai or uploaded before 2022-ish before AI image generators were a big thing. If you could point to a concrete example of where we'd made a mistake, we would absolutely 100% rectify it, because we put our values where our mouths are.

As for the assets in this pack. There are a whole bunch of posts on my BlueSky showing how I've spent pretty much all of my working hours at this full time job for the last 11 months crafting them one by one. Take a look, the receipts are all there.

Do your research before you throw around baseless (and defamatory, in legal terms) accusations.

You can sample 400 of the audio files on dropbox here: 400 Sounds Pack - Dropbox

There are no full music tracks in this pack though, only sound effects and short musical stings.

How many items are in the character maker?

  • 3 body types: average, dainty and heavy in 10 colours each.
  • 13 outfits in 5 different colours per body type.
  • 11 hairstyles in 8 different colours per body type.
  • 7 headgears in 5 different colours - only some modified for dainty body type because the rest fit all body types equally.
  • 13 Accessories, some with different colours, some modified to match different body types, some not (as above)

If you don't account for different colours & body types the possible combinations are in the 10s of 1000s, if you do they're in the millions.

And can we easily modify the tool to add original assets?

Not at the moment. All of the character pieces are provided in the pack separated from each other (bodies, clothes, etc.) so you can edit them in another program to make your own characters - but the Character Maker itself has those pieces hard baked into it, so you can't add your own pieces to it. If that's something people would like I'll put it on the to-do list.

Are the characters from the tool designed to fit both the adventure tile set and the RPG one?

Yes they are both 16 x 16 in tile size and the characters are 16 x 16 too. Although, the adventure tile set specifically uses a GBC colour palette because it's sort of inspired by the GB Zelda games. Recolouring the sprites to match it wouldn't be too difficult though!

10,000 Game Assets by Chequered Ink

They are generally made with a 16 x 16 tile size in mind, with tiles, characters and other sprites conforming to this size.

There are some sprites that are bigger than that, depending on their use cases.

We don't currently have a preview tool or anything for them. You can scroll through our fontspace account to see each font in a big list if that helps: https://www.fontspace.com/chequered-ink

Is there any way you can email us more detail like some kind of video or mock up image of the mechanic you're talking about to make sure we understand it fully? Our email is support@chequered.ink

Some are .ttf some are .otf

There's a sale on right now, in case you're still interested :)

Thanks so much! :)

Thank you :)

There is a slight difference between the two - definitely more than "a pixels difference" (see image below) but we appreciate that this may be problematic in your designs. We'll take the feedback on board and update it in a future version.

I just whipped this up quickly in GameMaker. The Indoor tiles have various dungeon-like walls and floors - and I've thrown the player sprite and a couple of enemies on there too.

Since there are only two of us in our team, and we are both on public record tens of times as saying that it's perfectly fine to do this, you can feel free to just go ahead and ship otf/ttf files with your game. And anyone who wants 100% peace of mind / concrete legal evidence can ask us for a signed letter saying so.

I will look into clarifying the wording in the license, there is clearly a balance to be struck to protect both our rights & our user's rights, but we have been letting people ship otf/ttfs with their games for 10 years now so I hope that gives you some trust in us in the mean time.

Just to be clear: You can ship the font files with your game. People have asked us this on numerous occasions and we always say yes! please do!

The terms of the license do say don't redistribute the font files - that's more to prevent people from uploading them to font websites and stuff without our permission.

Anyone who's worried and wants permission in writing can always get in touch with us and we'll be happy to provide it :)

A small handful of the fonts support Cyrillic, such as "Squirk" and "Ninteteen Ninety Three",  we don't add it to every font because there are only two of us and neither of us speak a language which uses Cyrillic characters - so it's a lot more work to make sure it's readable to native speakers & we don't always have the resources to do it. We're always looking to improve the selection of languages we support though so we'll take your feedback on board!

For the very small handful that are inspired by existing brands / products, I would probably avoid using them for anything commercial just to be safe?

That said, they are distinct, different fonts built by us from the ground up. Technically there should be no problem, but you know how these things go.

Thanks for grabbing the pack! The pack itself is separated by style, although you would then have to double-click fonts to get a proper look at them. We haven't come up with a better way of sorting or previewing them yet, sorry - after a quick search we found this which might be helpful? FontBase — a Free, Beautiful, and Fast Font Manager

That's great! We're glad to be working with Kenney on bringing this to more people :)

1. If we needed to check if someone has a license, in the first instance we would just ask nicely to see some proof or something. Often we don't really need to, though. Either we already have an inkling who has it (because this is a very close-knit community) or sometimes people just come and tell us when they're using our stuff anyway! (we love to see our fonts being used)

2. Yes you can. We periodically add all of our new fonts to the pack (the last time we did so was September 4th) so even if you find a newer font on dafont or fontspace, it just means we haven't gotten around to putting it in the pack yet and you can just go ahead and use it.

3. Yes, see above. (Unless we release a font and explicitly state that's it's not for commercial use or something. But this literally only applies to like 3 fonts we've released in the last 10 years,)

The whole license is "You may use these game assets for ANY and ALL uses including commercial use, with or without giving credit, except that you may not sell or redistribute the unaltered assets as your own game assets."

We haven't picked a pre-existing license for our assets.

Thanks, we like it too!

Thank you so much it's great to hear that and we'd love to see your game when it's done! Please stay in touch with us and show us the game, if you have a bluesky account or a mailing list do let us know so we can follow you.

We had the game all planned out, and we had a lot of fun making all the graphics (we did them before even doing any code)... but adventure games of this scale take a long time to make as I'm sure you know from making your own! So we had to move on to other work to keep money coming in, and never got back to working on this one project.

Nowadays we're heading in a direction where we're making lots of free game assets, so it seemed right to post these and hope that someone like you would make a wonderful new game with them :)

Thank you :)

Thanks :)

Thanks, hope you enjoy!
