Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed

Ahhh always love hearing Volatile Reaction show up in unexpected places. This is really, really solid! I did destroy the portal immediately upon starting the game and was like “damn, these are the starting stats? this is fun!” After dying in the lava zone I tried again without breaking the portal and was bummed to find out that, oh no, those were just the bonuses you get for breaking it that made the early game feel so snappy and surprisingly strong. The economy wasn’t very generous either.

I felt like the hitboxes with the sword and stuff didn’t quite ever work as I expected so I ended up not using it much. Besides that and some polish issues this is really well designed overall and really fun!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed! The economy wasn't tweaked at all, so I understand the complaint. And the sword definitely needs some work as well. Thanks for the feedback!

Awesome game to have made by yourself. Really liked the use of risk both by having to return to the portal after going to hell in 5 minutes or risk being closed off forever and by giving the player the ability to close the portal for a massive boost. That's at least how I could beat the game. One criticism I have is with the balance of acquiring gold. It's too slow. It would either be best to have the enemies drop more gold or for the prices to be dropped to make it more affordable. Otherwise people will just choose to speedrun the (impressively) massive map and not use too much of the combat to win.

Other than that, congrats on your game!

Developer

Thanks for playing and finishing! Balancing is a common complaint, and it makes sense since I just made some numbers up and ran out of time to test and tweak them.

Really cool game! I think the game is fun but needs some polish. So, the bg music stopped at some point and haven't returned, you forgot to loop the music. Also the game lacks in visual feedbacks for damage and other stuff, other than that, I liked your game and you made a really good job, the map is huge, which is impressive for a 7 days jam. Also I liked the mechanic in which I destroyed the portal, I really became powerful and I could beat the game in that way. Congrats for your game!

Not gonna like at some point I was starting to wonder if the cookie is a myth XD. I'm impressed with how big the dungeon is, I question if it was endless and thinking would you do that? make it procedurally add more room after the first view rooms. Tried a couple of runs without breaking the portal but alas I destroyed the portal and just risk it for the biscuit, seems like the play in the end as it gives so much boost to your stats.

Things to improve wise it seems the other comments have mention what I want to mention, like the UI could indeed be better.
Developer(+1)

Wow I'm so glad you played till the end!
I did initially imagine the game as fully procedurally generated with preset rooms, but decided that wouldn't fit inside the jam. I do want to work on that feature afterwards though, I think there is a lot to learn there. As for the UI, I completely agree, its current version was never meant to see the light of day :D
Thanks so much for playing till the end!

Great game, I just think the player could have a dash or a little increase of speed while walking because it's really tricky dodge the bullets. Anyway you made a nice work. Congrats

Developer

There is a dash you can use with space! Might not have made that clear, sorry. Thanks for playing!

I feel like its very impressive for a single person, you put a lot of things together and they all work, it just needs balancing but its normal that you didn’t have time in a jam. Great job!

Thanks so much for playing!

This is a really fun bullet hell game (pun intended)! I quite like the fact that the bullets are slow and big, it's unique from other games like this!

I think the game should be a bit harder and have more enemies to give the player an incentive to want to go back and buy upgrades to get stronger. I destroyed the portal and just zoomed through the map and killed everything in my path. I also think the melee weapon should have more range and knockback, so it's a quick way to put distance between you and the enemy

Very well done!

Developer

Very good suggestions! I didn't have any time left for balancing, and I definitely feel your complaints as well. Thank you so much for playing!

The first thing I did in this game was to go and break the portal immediately.  If perma-death is on the table, I want to know what the upside is ASAP.  Getting my little gattling gun going felt great!  I was cruising through until I eventually ran out of ammo.  I didn't realize this was a thing up until that point, so I got punished pretty hard for being so cavalier with my bullets early on.  Larger fonts and/or some additional eye-catching UI might help make this more apparent from the get-go.  I did not feel nearly as overpowered with just my sword and I bit the biscuit not long after.  I definitely did teach me the lesson of why I might want a portal back home before going all in.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Your UI complaint is absolutely valid, the current UI was only meant to be a placeholder, but I never got around to making a better one :D
Also not sure if you noticed since you mention only using the sword, you also had a shotgun! You can switch using Q.

Oops!  I see now that the instructions mentioned the weapon swap controls and everything.  I just got too lost in the sauce.

On UI, it can be a huge time suck, so glad you were able to get something in to move development along.  On the last day of the jam, I planned to churn out the UI, SFX, and spice up the starting and ending screens a bit.  UI work ended up just ballooning up to fill that entire time frame.  In exchange, I feel like I did finally learn enough about UI in my engine of choice to make it come together much quicker in the future.

Developer(+1)

Hey, FWIW, the UI in your game looks great!

Very fun little game, I love the reloading animation.

A pretty impressive game! I really liked the fact that there was some variety in the enemies. Could use some more polish on the ui and sound effect, but still a great game nonetheless.

Thanks for playing!

Very fun game! Pretty challenging and really cool! I found a few minor bugs like the music not looping, or the snail spawning red for some reason, but nothing that impacted the experience at all. As for the gameplay, my only problem was that amo costed too much and made it really hard to buy upgrades, so I ended up breaking the portal on the first attempt.
Overall, I really enjoyed playing and i love the mechanic of the portal breaking, it's such a cool idea! Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback!

Nice game, i risked it and i ded.

Liked the shooting and art of the gastly ;) nice map! 2cents: A mini map would be a lovely addition

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! You are absolutely right, a mini map would be awesome. I was going to add one but ran out of time, as it is with game jams :D

Nice game. I thik some of the UI, like for the shopkeeper, could be tidied up because it is a bit chaotic, but its nothing major. I liked the enemies, and the art is cool. Its a simple idea but well executed, well done:)

Developer

Thanks for playing! You are absolutely right, I had no time left for UI. I even put a message from Lenny referencing the mess that is the shop :D

Love the artwork and the audio. The gameplay is smooth and I enjoyed the Gungeon-esque theme.

When I died, the Quit Game buttons doesnt seem to work, might be a bug.

Developer

Glad you caught the Gungeon inspiration! Yeah I think the quit button doesn't work, but I don't think it matters much as death is supposed to be final in the game anyways. Thanks for playing!

This is a super amazing game to make in just 1 week and it feels polished!does the mob spawn rate increase the longer the portal is open? sometimes i try to make my way back to the portal and one of those narrow corridors are filled with like 5+ mobs lol

Developer

Thank you so much! Yes it does, but only up to a limit. I didn't have a lot of  time to balance things out though, so it may be a bit much lol. Thanks again!
