How does the game fit the theme?
The player is looking to become human again, and for that, he has to risk yourself in a haunted house, looking for a skull-shaped Special Cookie. Before the special cookie, he also will find power-ups named Skullkies (skull-shaped cookies as well, lol)

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I haven't used any assets which are not made by me.

Damn, this is a really cool game, I enjoyed it a lot! > v<

// I beat the game, the map design is very creative! ^^

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your kind words :D, glad you liked it!

This was a very enjoyable short puzzle. Very nice telegraphing on the hazards before they activate. I only wish the character moved a little faster. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much :D , I'm glad you liked it, I'll think in a way to turn the speed more enjoyable

Submitted(+1)

This was actually a really enjoyable experience even with the constant tiptoeing and timing you'd need to pull off to actually beat the game. Really liked the use of the different skull cookies in the game that helped a lot in influencing the risk taking in the game. Also thought the different parts of the level were well thought out and fair in its design overall to keep it entirely in the player's conscience if they take damage or not. Pretty fun overall, congrats on your game!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and for your review :D, I'm glad you liked the skullkies items and the level design

I managed to finish it! I really like the light mechanic, in fact I think you should lean into it more. I think you could either make it so I can't see much of anything outside of it, or if you think that's a bit much maybe some other mechanics with enemies or puzzles or something. It's unique!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and for your review :D, yeah I'm doing an update already, now you actually can't see out the light anymore so the light is more useful and the traps are more dangerous if you don't have enough light. I'm thinking about new things to the update, thanks for your feedback :D

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, it was fun. I really liked the feedback you had on everything, be it the invulnerability flashing with an audio cue when it is about to run out, or the spikes and flame slightly going up before being activated. Even the tutorial was pretty well executed and you had a variety of rooms. Those little details are tough to add in a game jam, specially when you're working alone. I played it until the end, great job!

Developer

Thank You so much! I tried to polish with visuals and sound feedbacks The most I could do, I'm Glad You liked that :D

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game, feels very polished and I especially like the visuals. The art style combined with the scrolling between rooms has a nice retro feel to it. I also think the map was a super useful feature to add.

Developer

Thank You so much for playing and for your kind words :D , I'm Glad You liked it

If you have the time feel free to try out my game, would mean alot !

Developer(+1)

Yeah I already added to my list since I read your First comment lol. I'll play today, when I get back to home

Excellent work! This is one of the best games I've played this jam: it feels very polished and complete for a jam game. The art style is consistent and the sound design is good. There's an impressive amount of content. My only nitpick would be that I'm not sure if the risk aspect of the theme comes through fully, since you don't really have any choice but to explore, and risk implies (to me) something you had the option of avoiding. This is really minor though and kind of up to interpretation. Great entry!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank You so much :D, it's an honor to read that You see my game in your top favourites of The jam. Yeah I think I could be more efficient in fit The theme also in gameplay, my Idea to fit The theme was The reason to Zackie (name of character) enter The house, he decided to risk himself in a dangerous Place to recover his human form. But I failed in be clear about that in The game itself, once I only told this in The description and in The victory Screen. Thank You so much for your kind words again :D

The level design is super good! not sure if it intented but i still have the key after i die

Developer

I'm Glad You liked it :D . Yeah is intended, I was afraid that players would rage quit If they Lost keys and have to collect ALL of them again lol. But in a post-jam update I'm increasing difficulty and keeping current state as an alternate difficulty in The options. Normal: progress Lost when die. Easy: progress not lost when die. Thank You so much for playing :D

Very good game, I love how it gives you pac-man vibes but way more modern and off course more exciting, The visuals are simple but yet they are great, Good job overall!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing :D , I'm glad you liked it

Submitted(+1)

Really simple gameplay, completely forgot there was a map but managed to find my way perfectly fine, so I guess its pretty hard to get lost! ( this is a good thing )

Also the music was driving me NUTS, which fits the haunted house vibe I think.

Developer

Thank you so much :D, I'm glad the level design was satisfactory, once you didn't get lost. About the music I'm pretty bad at that aspect but I'm glad you could think in this way lol

Submitted(+1)

I managed to become human haha and I confess that I played it twice, the first time I was stubborn and didn't watch the tutorial so I played without knowing there was a map, so I got lost many times and didn't find the 3rd key hahaha, but then with the map I managed to finish it and I really liked it, I thought it was really cool and I think it has a lot of potential, good work :D

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much :D, I'm glad you could enjoy my game. I forgot to explain how to open the map if the player don't play the tutorial. But in an update I added an instructions screen  to the basic aspects of the game even if you choose not play the tutorial. I think it will be useful to everyone. The update will launch after the rating period.

Submitted(+1)

Managed to make it back to human haha. Can definitely see the effort put into a surprisingly large map with a lot of different layouts especially for a game jam game! Wish the ghosts had different behaviors like in Pacman than just patrolling though, think that would might be fun

Developer

Thank you so much :D, I'm glad you could enjoy. Yeah I'm still learning how to do smarter enemies, in my previous jam I struggled a lot in do a smarter enemy, so this time I tried to go in something basic to the enemy AI. But I'll definitely try to improve that in next projects (maybe in an update to Skullkies).

Submitted(+1)

Haha no worries! Engaging enemy AI is definitely tricky to figure out. Goodluck to your future projects bro

Submitted(+1)

Made it back to human! Pacman-esque jam with a little 2D lighting twist, this is pretty interesting!

Developer

Thank You so much :D, I'm Glad You have beated The game and liked it

Submitted(+1)

Yay! I made it back to human!!

Great entry! gives off PacMan vibes but with more complexity and strategy!

Loved how you did the level design and placed the power ups! And those spikes are tricky!!! haha!

Great entry! I had fun! 😊😊

Developer(+1)

Thank You so much :D . I'm really happy You could enjoy The experience in my game and played until The end. Thanks for The kind words, and The traps Will be a more challenging in Next update lol, after The rating period

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, I enjoyed it!

I think there are couple of tweaks and general polishes that you could make to make the game more enjoyable. Movement, for example, is linear and constant, which feels flat. Footstep sfx could be nice too. I thought the game was also pretty easy overall, you had placed invincibility cookies before every obstacles 🤣, apart from the fact that there's a lot of walking involved.

To be clear, I do like a lot of the features you already put into the game. Tutorials, minimap, lighting system etc. All that within a week is very impressive. I think with some visual, audio and game feel updates, this could become even more fun!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank You so much for playing and Review :D. I'm developing an update for launch after The rating period, in that update I tried to balance The difficulty to turn The game more challenging, like: fire and Spike traps with different timings, different placements of The traps and The power-ups, maximum life set to 3, dying now has a consequence, etc. The update also includes bug fixes, more polish and localization to pt-BR. Footstep sound is something I originally made but some players said It was a Tiring sound, so I cut It until I think in a better sound. About The movement being linear I don't know exactly what to do about that lol. Thank You so much for your feedbacks again  :D

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

For footstep you should look into a technique called "random pitch-shifting."

For movement you could make the movement more momentum based, have some acceleration and deceleration to mimic real life movement. There's a lot of different ways to do that so you need to look those up. You could start here.

Developer(+1)

Bro you're really cool, not only gave me real useful feedbacks, but you're also giving me the references to study, thank you so much :D

Nice work all in all! I think you could’ve done with complete darkness outside the player’s vision range, as right now there’s actually no reason to worry or care about light except it makes things slightly easier to see. I also wonder if the light were on a timer how that might feel, where you have to make sure you keep gathering light skullkies quick enough to keep your light up. Or if the light interacted with the ghosts somehow? As is it’s pretty simple and easy. I’m not sure why you have the player press F to open the doors?

A couple audio thoughts… The ghost audio is looping at the wrong phase of the waveform causing a noticeable clipping/stopping sound every time it repeats, you can solve this in the future by not looping it while there’s still sound playing or very carefully aligning the start and end. The music could’ve used a bit more of a break from the chromatic scale too imo. Those are just tips for the future though!

This turned out to be a nice solid jam game :)

Developer(+1)

Hey, thank you so much for your detailed review, that's amazing! I think I'll turn the darkness even darker, but I don't know if I should do 100% solid black in the darkness. You gave some good ideas about the light, specially I think I can apply the timer in a new dungeon, for example, to be played after beat the current dungeon of the game, and I'll think of ways to turn the lights more useful than just lightning the scenario.  Talking about "press F", it's more because, as a player, I use to like more when I have control of the actions, instead of open automatically when approaches to the door, but I'll also think in a way to do a useful mechanic in opening/closing the doors, in a possible update. Yeah ghost audio is not how I wanted, I'll try to get better in audio as well. And, even though I love to play musical instruments, in this game I used Bosca Ceoil to create the music, but I lack too much in musical concepts, so I have a lot to learn about, it's my second bg music to a game, I'm a too bad composer for now, but I like so much to try creating my musics, so I'll keep trying.  About future: I'm already doing an update to polish content that's already in the game, I'll be launching after the rating period, but an update to add new content I'm not completely sure yet, but I liked to develop this game, so I think I have an interest in that.  Thank you so much again, you gave me really useful tips

Developer(+1)

Hey, I'm here just to say that I already defined darkness to 99% opacity and I managed to improve the sound of the ghost. Thanks for your feedback again. About bg music I'll try to study more before a change.

Submitted(+1)

Really nice game, props on giving feedback on players input. Such a solid game for just a week of development. Congrats.

Developer(+1)

Thank You so much for playing my game :D, I'm Sorry about some bugs, I already fixed them but I can't upload The update yet cause The rating period
