How does the game fit the theme?
MECHANICALLY
(1) Active Reload - Every time you reload, you can choose to press r at the right time to reload instantly, but if you fail you take longer than you would've if you hadn't *and* you generate heat.
(2) Heat - You have a heat meter that goes up whenever you fail an active reload, take damage, or accept an offer at the end of a room to increase it. The more toasted you get the better your stats, but be careful! If you end up Burnt then you lose all your heat bonuses and die in one hit.
(3) Find a better weapon... There are 9 unique weapons to find, if you feel too weak to beat the boss maybe you're better off looking for another weapon - the mythical Golden Baguette all but guarantees victory. But to get that loot, you have to combat deadly foes, increasing your chance of dying!
THEMATICALLY
You play as a biscuit dough dog going to rescue your biscuit dough human from the horrible Bungeon in the Oven, risking it all for the biscuit.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Some of the engine infrastructure already existed (using our own engine!) but nearly everything else code wise came from scratch this week.
Font - Love Bug by Chevy Ray
Enemy Spawn Effect - Free Effect and Bullet 16x16 by BDragon1727
Tileset (altered) - 2D PIxel Dungeon Asset Pack by Pixel_Poem
Also features a "victory chime"-y sound effect I (ephemerald) made like a year ago and, uh, https://www.cornify.com/

I loved the aesthetics of the game, it looked really well made and highly polished. Gameplay was fun but a bit challenging (probably because I was just running into danger all the time), but the whole risk mechanic with the heat meter was really unique and interesting. Overall really fun experience :)
LOVELY, CUTE, FUN and everything in betweenn, i really love gungeon styled games so this one for sure was something i would love
THE SOUNDS and MUSIC ARE AMAZING! I love how much style this little game has! I was confused at the start at what engine you were using only to find out it was custom, very impressive!
Woah! Really cool to see another gungeon inspired game! Though this obviously has much better polish then mine :P The heat mechanic is awesome and fits the theme really well! I generally love everything about this game lol. I will say though at some point the roll started to cover an insane amount of distance which felt a bit hard to control :D
ohh my god, this game was PURE cinema
This was such a good game, you nailed the roguelike bread dungeon vibes. The weapons were interesting, the enemies were adorable, the boss was so well designed. My best time was 1:04 thanks to the croissant, but I also had plenty of fun exploring the maze and taking my time. Overall, perfectly toasted game! I can't wait to see where you may take this
We loved the dungeon vibes and the bakery themed enemies and weapons. We liked fighting with the baguette, though being able to hit bullets back with it would be a fun game play. Good submission :)
Lovely! one of my favorites, this is the 5th time I say this today why do I always find the best games the last day haha
Fun game! Would've loved to see the health of my enemies as well.
Good job!
Adorable artwork, charming spin on Enter the Gungeon. Really got my buns burnt on the first run, but it was a fun one to play through!
Amazing work fitting in so much content in such little time. Occasionally I would find myself beating up enemies who were already dead! Super fun, well done!
Very cute game. Loved the bakery theme. I struggled with the pink squirty gun because I ran out of bullets (wheat?) pretty fast. The green one was fine. I am not good enough to make it with the bread stick. Donuts spawning donut holes was hilarious.
Oh my i really enjoyed it!!! Heavy gungeon vibes, the art is incredible. I do wish the baguette slashing weapon destroyed bullets, as it stood the green weapon was the best and made me not need to explore once i found the boss room. The enemies that spawn the orbs were harden than the boss haha, i really struggled to fight them.
I really had a blast on this one, congrats on submitting it!!
Really nice game! people from our stuido enjoyed it. feel free to play our game and rate it as well :)
Ok, I enjoyed this very much. So much so that I lost track of the hour I was playing it. But it also has its issues. Lets get those out of the way first. First the collisions needs some work at first I thought I might just be missing, which still might be the case for some, but it is most apparent in the boss fight. There are bullets constantly not being detected even though they go through its body. Second, once I discovered the boss room I didn't feel like I needed to explore anymore, part of it is because of the heat mechanic cause the more time I fight other enemies the more I get burnt. Third, I felt that the shooting weapon was the only viable option since moving it to attack the shooting enemies was to risky since their shooting does not get interrupted.
Now for the good stuff. The art is amazing and the sound effects are on point! The player movement and animations are super fluid. It is fun to control and to try out different weapons. The enemy have good verity and can easily overwhelm you if you're not careful. Great work on this game and I hope you update it in the future!
Really good game loved the art, its incredible you were able to orchestrate all this so well in just a matter of 6 days, Overall Amazing game, especially loved the map design, The tiles look great and it fit the vibe flawlessly and the movement system is quite Fluid and responsive :D
Rated:10/10 btw, Please try out my game Racookie Heist as well 😊, I worked really hard on it as well. I hope to see you in the Racookie Heist Comments section soon :D
The ending sequence!!!! Hahaha, I feel bad for anyone who got skill issued and could not see that. Love games like these, where the theme is embraced wholly into like all parts of the game. I think you nailed the enter the gungeon inspiration. Especially love the reloading risk mechanic, but just wish the payout was bigger for hitting the sweet spot (maybe like the Rad Gun from Gungeon? haha). The art and SFX and the overall aesthetic is very cute and polished
This is really well done! It's basically a nice Enter the Gungeon done in just 7 days! The controls and gameplay are exactly that, which I am not going to complain. The graphics (especially) the biscuit player character and the weapons are really well made! I also think that you've got the time and effort to make 9 different weapons and a boss, which is really impressive. The heat meter is a nice addition as well, where, although it doesn't make that much of a difference, it's cool to be at the edge of dying yet being super powerful. Got that red tearstone ring vibe to that, and I really like that.
For some minor criticisms, I think the room layout is a bit detrimental to the game, as with the amount of enemy projectile spam, the narrow corridors, which the current map mainly consists of, make the game really frustrating to play, as it will be just flooded with bullets, making it a waiting game. It also makes the melee weapons virtually useless. I think having larger and more spacious rooms would be far better as an alternative. Another thing is that the collision is a bit strange, where it felt like bullets are not connecting reliably. The upper part of the wall also had a collision for some reason.
Anyway, I think this is still a very nice entry! Well done!
Wow, an incredibly polished and cute game! It is really, really, really cute!!! I felt so sorry for the dog when it died 😭 (which it did a lot because I’m bad). The controls and movement felt good, the reload idea is amazing, and the heat bar is an interesting mechanic.
I think I found some bugs in the boss area. First, you can shoot at him from a distance and he doesn’t attack you back. Also, his health can go below 0. I mostly played with the green gun. I also got the baguette a couple of times, but it didn’t feel like a good weapon against the toast enemies, which you have to kill a lot of to reach the boss room. That’s why I stuck with the gun. I got a rolling pin once, and I thought it was a better baguette because you can kill those toasts in 1–2 hits.
The circle enemy that follows you is, in my opinion, too fast. If you don’t hit it directly, you’re almost guaranteed to get hit (unless you roll - but it took me a few tries to figure that out).
Overall, a very polished game that feels almost like a full release and not just a one-week project… not to mention you built it in your own engine, which I think is just beyond awesome. Music and audio are top.
Good job on making this game! I like the dodge roll mechanic and the enemies that follow you through the dungeon!
