The loop detection sometimes doesn't work, which is a bit frustrating, but I like the concept a lot and the concept you talk about in the description looks incredible, I'd be glad to see what it becomes
Cool art btw !
Yup, I probably should've put more time into getting the loop detection right. Thanks for the feedback :)
Love the idea! Great work.
Thanks!
Wow really great art style
Thanks :)
I love the hand-drawn art and the real world haptical feel of the paper and the surroundings. Really charming and fun!
One suggestion would be to change pencils on the right mouse button. Since it's only the two of them, it would be easy to switch back and forth. And it felt a bit too slow to get the marker in time for the faster intruders. (Slight immersion cost though, I guess)
That's great feedback, thank you so much! Good point with the controls. We initially thought we could add more pencils, which is why we decided to go for the immersive switch controls. I agree that it's a bit stressful though :D
A really polished take on the theme, I love the hand-drawn style and the fact that my pencil could go outside of the paper was a neat immersion touch.
Great tutorial too, that felt like a fully-featured addition! As you've said it would be great fun to expand on this after the jam with more pencils and powerups. Definitely feels like a stage one of a complete game 🏰
We actually had a small discussion about whether it's better to allow the player to draw outside the canvas or not haha. Glad we decided to allow it. Thank you so much for the feedback! :))
That was fun! I love the hand drawn aesthetic. The idea that instead of just doing one circle around it you do multiple to do more damage was super fun imo, it makes it feel like you are actually damaging the enemies. Good job!
Glad you enjoyed the game, thanks a lot for the kind words :)
Cool Game! I like the idea of different pencils doing different things!
Would've loved to add even more pencils. Thank you! :)
Cool game, I liked being able to block enemies as well
Thanks Matthew!
Love the aesthetic and concept for this. Definitely a game I would want to bust out my drawing tablet for. Drawing loops around lil goblins is fun.
Definitely! Thank you so much!
I love the concept! It's fun, it works well and the art is top notch! Congrats!
Thank you! :))
Very creative idea, feels like it would have made for a classic early DS game!
Thanks a lot! DS would've been the ideal platform :D
Nice game ! Really like the idea !! It's fun but maybe add some powerups or stuff like this
Thanks :) We purposely held the scope low for this jam, but there were additional pencil types in our backlog, for example. With a little more time, we would've probably added some pen to freeze enemies, or burn them, etc.
Creative idea! Maybe it could be really cool on a (mobile) touch screen as well.
Thanks! Mobile would be great, especially on Switch or 3DS right? haha
I managed to get quite a nice marker fortress around my castle, overall this is a pretty creative game and I enjoyed playing :)
Just as a note I found that drawing back and forth lines on the enemies seemed to work even more efficiently than drawing loops around the enemies
That's awesome, I'm happy you enjoyed your time with the game!
Yup, it's kind of an unforseen feature that we realised in the last few minutes, so we decided to just leave it in. You can be proud to have found the hidden meta strat hahaha
I could see this becoming even better with a bit more focus on the drawing mechanics and some tweaks to make crowded moments easier to manage.
Yup I think that's a big drawback of the pencil mechanics, and it does feel quite unsatisfying at times. Thanks for the feedback! :)
Wow what a cool concept! I love the idea and I loved getting scribble away the little guys! The art and the audio work super well together to reinforce the whole experience. Only complaints I struggled to use the marker and when the enemies where all bunched up together it felt a finnicky. Also it would be nice if the health bars where bigger because I struggled to notice them a lot especiall since they're the same colour as the dudes but otherwise loved the game! I feel like there's a lot you could do to expand on this as well :)
Thank you so much for playing Ellie! :) And yes, I agree, it's a bit suboptimal when they're bunched up together like that.
Not 100% sure what you mean by the enemies and their health bar being the same color though? We opted for a classic red health bar as a good contrast to the white background and mostly greenish enemies :)
We are thinking hard about expanding the game in various ways, like adding an economy so you can buy upgrades, new pen types etc. etc. :)
Cool idea and really pleasing artwork. The marker seemed a bit overpowered, but scribbling over enemies was fun.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Such a cute little game! As another commenter mentioned focusing on the drawing defences mechanic would be a great way to take the game if you wanted to continue working on it!
Absolutely! Thanks for playing our game :)
Creativity game! I like gaide in main menu. That is a peaty that i havnt touch screen, i think touch screen is perfect fot this game. Good hanfdrawn style, good balance, to be shorter, i like it
Thanks a lot! :) Touch screen would be optimal, that's true
Super charming game! I'd love to see it fleshed out more, but relying less on the loop mechanic and more on the drawing defenses mechanic. It got to a point where there were soo many guys stacked up that I couldn't draw lines anymore, since they would immediately break my loop the second I started drawing it. Was fun while I lasted though!
Glad you enjoyed! Right? There's something about drawing your own defenses that stood out to us, so yeah, maybe we start working on this more! And yup, it does get quite hard once there are many enemies haha (there are actually ways to counter that though)
