This was a fun game and creative idea! It's harder than it looks, apparently Im bad at drawings loops lol.
Keep making cool stuff!
We will! Thank you Oleksii :)
it's a fun game! got a score of 2285
however it could use some more polish, such as more feedback when an enemy gets hit, or you finish a loop
however, it felt a bit weird at times:
for one, the enemies could for some reason just go through the walls that the black marker was supposed to draw
two, a lot of the times it felt like my loop just disappeared and didn't deal any damage for some reason, i'm guessing it has something to do with how you're detecting loops, and i sometimes (like when a bit too close to the castle i guess?) couldn't draw the loop which felt very annoying
also having to move your mouse to switch between the marker and the pencil was kind of annoying, i'd say bind it to a hotkey
overall tho, i really liked it! it's a simple but fun game
Thank you so much for this great amount of feedback!
Usually you should've been able to draw loops even when close to the castle, don't know what happened there. The loop detection, or rather the detection of enemies inside the loop, was a bit buggy, that's true. I relied a lot on Unity filling the drawn shapes with Polygon colliders, which doesn't work too well vor more complex shapes or irregular circles. Sadly, I didn't have the time to come up with a better solution, which would've probably been worth it in hindsight.
Thanks for playing our game, I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the bugs! :)
hmm.. filling the drawn shapes with a polygon collider worked just fine for me so i doubt that's the problem
Hm, good to know, I might have to look into that a bit more
I really liked how you used a marker to add a different effect to the loops you draw, but having to switch between the pencil and the marker is a bit tough, perhaps binding it to a key instead would help.
I loved the artwork, it fits really well with the concept you were going for! Great job with your game!
We initially intended to add more pencils, hence the switching controls. For only two pens, switching them on button press would've probably been a good solution. Thank you :)
Great game! The style is really cute :). Except the loop sometimes not working and feeling unfair when those goblins kept attacking my castle, it was a very enjoyable experience. Amazing job!
Glad you liked our game!:)
I had been thinking about adding a health bar to the loop itself, so it would be more obvious how close to breaking it is. Maybe it would've felt fairer this way. Thanks for commenting!
nice idea
The loop detection sometimes doesn't work, which is a bit frustrating, but I like the concept a lot and the concept you talk about in the description looks incredible, I'd be glad to see what it becomes
Cool art btw !
Yup, I probably should've put more time into getting the loop detection right. Thanks for the feedback :)
Love the idea! Great work.
Thanks!
Wow really great art style
Thanks :)
I love the hand-drawn art and the real world haptical feel of the paper and the surroundings. Really charming and fun!
One suggestion would be to change pencils on the right mouse button. Since it's only the two of them, it would be easy to switch back and forth. And it felt a bit too slow to get the marker in time for the faster intruders. (Slight immersion cost though, I guess)
That's great feedback, thank you so much! Good point with the controls. We initially thought we could add more pencils, which is why we decided to go for the immersive switch controls. I agree that it's a bit stressful though :D
A really polished take on the theme, I love the hand-drawn style and the fact that my pencil could go outside of the paper was a neat immersion touch.
Great tutorial too, that felt like a fully-featured addition! As you've said it would be great fun to expand on this after the jam with more pencils and powerups. Definitely feels like a stage one of a complete game 🏰
We actually had a small discussion about whether it's better to allow the player to draw outside the canvas or not haha. Glad we decided to allow it. Thank you so much for the feedback! :))
That was fun! I love the hand drawn aesthetic. The idea that instead of just doing one circle around it you do multiple to do more damage was super fun imo, it makes it feel like you are actually damaging the enemies. Good job!
Glad you enjoyed the game, thanks a lot for the kind words :)
Cool Game! I like the idea of different pencils doing different things!
Would've loved to add even more pencils. Thank you! :)
Cool game, I liked being able to block enemies as well
Thanks Matthew!
Love the aesthetic and concept for this. Definitely a game I would want to bust out my drawing tablet for. Drawing loops around lil goblins is fun.
Definitely! Thank you so much!
I love the concept! It's fun, it works well and the art is top notch! Congrats!
Thank you! :))
Very creative idea, feels like it would have made for a classic early DS game!
Thanks a lot! DS would've been the ideal platform :D
Nice game ! Really like the idea !! It's fun but maybe add some powerups or stuff like this
Thanks :) We purposely held the scope low for this jam, but there were additional pencil types in our backlog, for example. With a little more time, we would've probably added some pen to freeze enemies, or burn them, etc.
Creative idea! Maybe it could be really cool on a (mobile) touch screen as well.
Thanks! Mobile would be great, especially on Switch or 3DS right? haha
I managed to get quite a nice marker fortress around my castle, overall this is a pretty creative game and I enjoyed playing :)
Just as a note I found that drawing back and forth lines on the enemies seemed to work even more efficiently than drawing loops around the enemies
That's awesome, I'm happy you enjoyed your time with the game!
Yup, it's kind of an unforseen feature that we realised in the last few minutes, so we decided to just leave it in. You can be proud to have found the hidden meta strat hahaha
