It's extremely creative and stands out uniquely in line with the theme of 【loop】. I was completely immersed in the gameplay, and this gaming experience was fantastic!
Thank you so much for taking the time to give our game a try! :) Glad you liked it! We are motivated to continue working on it. :)
Very unique idea, great take on the theme, and I like the potential it has! Great job, I would just suggest going for the web build so you can reach more people with your amazing ideas! Well done!!!
Thank you for trying out Mistwatch and for your kind words! <3 We will definitely be bring out a web build next time around, this year we had some issues during build export and we couldn't get it to work unfortunately, but next year is the year!
This is really, really fun, probably the game with the most potential. I really encourage you to keep working on it because with a few added things, it could do really, really well. I feellike you should be able to have multiple paths and I also found that sometimes, even though the enemy is very close/in the direction the fighter is facing, they won't attack for some reason, that could also get worked on. Still, I had a lot of fun playing it, and I don't usually like tower defense games.
You made our day! :) When we came up with an idea for this game jam, we had a feeling this could become something really good. And now, seeing such a positive reaction to this small piece we managed to implement in time is so encouraging. Thank you for taking the time to try it out! 😊
Cool idea, well executed! Had fun with this one. :) Nicely done!
Thank you so much! Glad you had fun :)
MistWatch is a mustwatch, really nice game loved the simplictic but refied art style
eeeey, ahahaha, thank you for that one! :D Mustwatch might be the new tagline for the game :D
Thank you for checking it out and your kind words!
Love the concept, and love the art style !
Archers seems a bit overpowered right now ? Maybe the melee units should be allowed to quit the path to attack enemies in sight to balance for the lack of range ? Other than that I love it, as someone else said, you should maybe continue it after the jam if you feels like it :)
Reached wave 13th btw ! But couldn't win it
Thank you so very much for your kind words and the feedback! <3 Yeah, ranged units are bit too op currently and definitely need some more balancing. I like the suggestion which you had for the melee units, that could give them some more viability and more reason for players wanting to include them on their patrols!
You were not far of the last wave, just 2 more to go! :D
Damn two more waves! So close !
Ditto on the ranged units being OP. I got to round 15 using only ranged units because they could shoot through walls and buildings. For the patrol path I made a small point rather than a path because for all the rounds up until 15 the spawners would be mostly on the same side of the castle. I hade fun gaming the system regardless!
We haven't even thought about buildings blocking arrows - that could be nice! Thanks for the feedback!
And for the spawners, we just repeatedly take a random angle for the spawn direction, which was good enough for the game jam, but I'm guessing overlaps were inevitable with such an approach. :D Definitely on our TODO list.
I love the mist effect in the game. If you don't mind revealing trade secrets, is it a shader, particle, or prerendered animation?
Such a cool concept! The patrol loop mechanic is super original, and the art and sound design really elevate the whole experience. I can totally see this becoming something even bigger—great work, and excited to see where you take it!
Thank you so much for checking out Mistwatch! We are super grateful to hear such encouraging words<3
This is a very good and solid base concept for a game. You should revisit this idea and polish it build upon it, when the game jam ends. A very unique take on the theme. Good job.
Thank you and thank you for trying out Mistwacth!
And thank you for the encouraging words! We had so much fun building the game and had so many ideas flowing at the time but not enough time to realise them all for this iteration, so we are hoping to expand the game further with those! :D
Loved the aesthetic of your game, well done!!
Thank you very much and thank you for trying out Mistwatch! <3
I liked the aesthetic and the gameplay! Didn't manage to finish it think I died at wave 11 or something, but enjoyed myself while playing
Thanks for trying Mistwatch out! It gets only harder from wave 11 :D
Nice work! It took me a few tries, but I figured it out. Also, archers for the win!
Thank you for trying it out! :) And indeed, archers are the best. :D
Woah, I got untill wave 15 and had a great time. The sound design is relaxing and really fitting, the game idea is so original and fitting the theme perfectly and the art is just amazing. I seriously dont get how you managed to make such an amazing game for your first game jam.
Seriously incredible work!!!! :D
Thank you for such nice comments! 😭 We are also pleasantly surprised with ourselves, to be completely honest! :D
We do have some experience in game dev, but we've never done something from zero on our own, so it's nice seeing people actually digging it!
This is freaking fantastic for a first jam!! I love everything about this. I only managed to make it to wave 10 but it was pretty exciting the entire time. Really good job on this one you two :) -Kaylee
Thank you so much for the kind words! Such feedback really gives us wind in the back to keep working on it. We've got plenty of ideas in the store to add to this game. :) Once again, thanks for giving it a whirl!
I really like the art direction
Our artist will be delighted to hear that. Thank you for trying Mistwatch. :)
Defeated after 8 waves!
I enjoyed the more chill take on the wave survival genre, and appreciated the patrol-path loop interpretation of the theme.
I recommend adding or explaining mechanics on the extra buildings that sometimes show up, and more unit variety or multiple patrol paths.
Great work!
Thank you for playing our game! :) Agreed, we need to put in some work to make things clearer. Thanks for the feedback!
Really nice game! I got a little army of blue guys before finishing! The artstyle is also gorgeous. I would have liked to see more interesting use cases of the patrolling mechanic, but overall great game!
Thank you for giving our game some of your time! :) We had a bunch of ideas, but unfortunately, we had to keep only a few to make the deadline. We'll be working on it after the jam! Glad you liked it overall.
The atmosphere of this game is absolutely captivating! And on top of that, I really enjoyed playing it. In my best game, I died on wave 9. Are there an infinite number of waves?
For a first game jam, you can be proud of yourselves!
Thank you for giving Mistwatch a shot and for the kind words! :)
I am not sure what we'll do for the full game, but for this game jam, we decided to handcraft a small number of waves (15 to be exact). And to be completely honest, the code doesn't support anyone beating the last wave. :D
This fifteenth wave makes me curious! I'll probably try again to reach it :D
Super creative take on the theme. The artwork is super good as well, and I really enjoy that you get out of the way of the player and just let them figure it out. With that said, maybe a few more hints wouldv'e been nice, such as a cost display on the unit buttons. Also, the game could've used a little more 'juice' to put it into the next level, but otherwise I really enjoyed it. Good job!
P.S., I initially thought the red dots were spots you HAD to draw your loop through, and that made for some pretty interesting shapes that alleviated the boring solution of just binding it tight around your castle. Maybe worth thinking about.
Never thought about the players mistaking wave indicators for something to loop around. Thanks for this feedback! :D The game is dying for a simple tutorial that at least sets some rules. :D
And yes, thank you so much for taking the time to play our game. <3
I really love the concept of this game. There’s a lot of potential here! It would be awesome to have a retry button and a way to preview where units will spawn in the loop. Other than that, it’s super enjoyable. Great idea overall!!
Thank you for taking the time to give our game a whirl! :) Yes - the position of units on the loop is random (and therefore unexpected), but we'll change that in the future. Thank you for the feedback!
I really love the art and sound design. The gameplay is definitely interesting, although a bit opaque at times - I never really knew why my loops were being rejected. Also, with minimal information it was very hard to tell if the boosts from outer buildings were doing anything (and if so, how to evaluate the tradeoffs). Finally, it seemed at times like the optimal strategy was just "as tight of a loop as close to your castle as possible at all times". But I had fun playing and its very, very stylish; nice work!
Thank you for playing our game! We agree with the feedback :D Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to make a tutorial and make upgrades more clear. The thing we are very proud of is that sometimes the upgrade building spawns far away from the castle (and the upcoming wave), forcing you to make a tradeoff between prolonging your loop (which thins your defenses across the loop) and getting a juicy upgrade! :) We'll keep working on it!
