love the aesthetic and the vibe, and the game concept is pretty neat! it has problems with balancing and whatnot, but the thing that felt most annoying was that it was sometimes confusing why my units weren't attacking.  i assume there's some sort of cooldown but it felt fairly long, and it felt like most of the time, my units would just walk away from an enemy and not attack, and once they're on the other end of the loop they can't reach so the enemy doesn't die for ages. maybe just a skill issue though. cool game!

Developer

Thanks for trying it out! Yes, it's mostly due to a fairly unbalanced range/cooldown. :D We are also considering letting the units stop for a bit while attacking, but we haven't had the time to experiment with it during the game jam.

Such a cool concept and super impressive to see it executed so well.

Love the overall aesthetic and it's cool how much your strategy has to adjust with the changing spawn points and new structures to defend.

Developer

Thank you very much for taking the time to try Mistwatch out! We are super glad you liked it. :)

I really like the concept! The enemy variety adds a nice challenge, and the line-drawing mechanic is such a unique and creative twist for a tower defense game. My only issue is that having a gold system for the units would make it more strategic, especially since archers are waaay better than swordsmen. Overall, a really enjoyable game!
If you have time, can you check out our game as well?

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing our game! :) The game indeed has a gold system, but it's nowhere near being balanced enough. Currently, as you mentioned, archers are the preferred option 99% of the time. Moving forward, we'll tweak the game further and introduce more features as well.

I left a review on your game  - really well done! :)

I find it very satisfying to see your guards protecting your tower according to your plan. Though there wasn't much challenge in this game, I spent a lot of time drawing loops and watching the result !

Developer

Thank you for playing Mistwatch! :) Balance is not there yet and the game is quite "cheeseable", but then we made sure the last wave is frankly impossible. xD Definitely something to work on.

big fan of this spin on the tower defense genre.  drawing your own paths is way more engaging than just clicking tiles on a map to place towers/units.  the idea of the extra buildings to include in the loop were my favorite addition, and i think itd be really cool to expand on that a bit (riskier buildings further away give extra gold for units, optional upgrades, etc.). love the paired down art style and the medieval map aesthetic, the sfx and music also fit the atmosphere really well.  definitely a game that i would come back to if there were more content added, thanks for making it!

Developer

Thank you for the compliments! We are really proud of that specific design intent with extra buildings, and we plan to add many more interesting mechanics similar to that one in the future. :D Glad you liked our game!

Submitted(+1)

This is an excellent first jam submission!  The art style is captivating and you found appropriate yet relaxing sound effects, that can't have been easy!  I'm obsessed with the sound of the building taking damage.  I really like the inclusion of the bonus buildings that you need to put in your loop.  I can see this as the core of a fun spin on the tower defense genre.  Awesome job!

Developer

Haha, thank you so much for the comments! That sound is the sound of smashing a ceramic tile with some filters on top. :D We like how it turned out as well! We have big plans for this game. :)

Thank you for finding time to play our game, that means a lot!

THIS GAME IS SUCH A VIBE!! the ambience is super great and the art and music are wonderful. i assumed at first i could create paths for each individual unit so i was a little confused when i couldn't but it's really cute!! i think if u keep updating this game i'd like to see loops for each individual unit and that way i feel there would be more strategy involved in placement! but super fun i liked this one a lot. beautiful game!

Developer

Thank you!!! 😭 We'll definitely be updating the game. We have so many ideas for it! :) Thank you for taking the time to play our game!

Quite a unique spin on the tower defence genre and a satisfying game to look at/listen to, very good job!

Developer

Thank you very much for taking the time to try Mistwatch out! :) The game will only get better from this point on :D Glad you like it already at this stage!

Love the art style! Fun little twist on the idea of a tower defence game and it worked really well! I would really like to see a full version of the game with more enemy, unit types, or perhaps even upgrades!

Developer(+1)

Yes! We want to see the full version as well! :D We'll continue working on it as there are so many things that could be added and improved.

Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to try Mistwatch out!

i standby all when declaring the artwork in this being incredible - the central detailed tower, the shadows of soldiers, and the derpy enemies, i feel like they should clash and yet, it perfectly emulates a child's doodling in a beautiful way.

it takes the classic tower defense feeling and tries something new! i like it. i think additional friendly units and some tweaking to the drawing mechanic would help it a lot.

INSANE that this is your first game jam - incredibly work and a huge kudos to the two of you!
mugi, you're pretty good on the keys of a piano but you may be even better on the keys of a computer.

Developer(+1)

Mugi can do anything! :D Love your comment.

Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to try our lil game out! We'll definitely keep working on Mistwatch as there are sooo many things we'd like to incorporate into it: more friendly and enemy units, more encouragement for interesting loop shapes, exploration, clear upgrades etc.

Really awesome core concept! I love the idea of a free floating tower defense game where you can reset the towers each time. I was a little confused why the melee guys seemed more expensive than the archers, yet also much less useful? I got to wave 10 by just buying two archers at the start of each round. I think there's a lot of design space here, could definitely see some cool modifications on it!

Developer

Thanks for trying Mistwatch out. Glad you liked it! :)

Agreed, knights are a bit underwhelming at the moment. The idea was that they have a cleave attack that can damage multiple enemies at once, but that really requires lucky timing (their and enemies' positions matching relatively well), so it's not so consistently effective. We'll keep tweaking the concept further to see what works and what does not. :)

Submitted(+1)

Great idea and very nice aesthetics!

I really like the idea of adding a preprogrammed movement loop to the base-defence game, but in the current version, it feels a bit too straightforward - often the best loop is just to put them in one spot near the base, or move between two such spots by the shortest loop.

So I was thinking of what can make it more fun - and I was thinking adding some rhythm to it would make it more meaningful, so you can adjust the loop to respond to the rhythm.

Or maybe even monsters spot not just in one location and go towards base, but they spawn in predefined spots, and move in a certain direction with some rhythm. So the challenge would be to make a loop that best fits those two.

Also, having separate tracks for archers and sworsmen would be fun!

Overall - great ideas and interpretation of the theme!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your kind words and feedback! :)

Agreed - freehand drawing is fun, but is currently quite "cheeseable". We introduced a need for strategy when building loops by spawning upgrade buildings that can end up on the other side of the fort, forcing the player to weigh whether having an upgrade is worth spreading units thin across a long loop. But it's all random, so the intent is not accomplished most of the time. :(

Our main goal for the future is to keep the freedom of loop design, but encourage more interesting and thought-out shapes! And your ideas are definitely worth considering! :)

Once again, thanks for giving our game a try!

Really fun to watch your loop of little guys build up and march around! Wave 5 is super brutal but I got there

Developer

Thank you very much for trying out Mistwatch! <3 Some of the waves are admittedly harder than they should be, but glad to see you made it! Hopefully even all the way to wave 15 :D

Love the visuals here! So calm. It reminds me of an old game you can't get anymore that used to be on iPhones called harbormaster. Nice work!

I'd appreciate feedback on my submission if you get a chance!

Developer

Thank you for trying out Mistwatch and for your kind words! <3 I am not familiar with harbormaster, but it looks really interesting from screenshots! It is a shame that it's not available anymore tho :(  is it this game (youtube video)?

 ?
Submitted(+1)

Yes that's IT!!! So nostalgic! I wish you could still get it...

Developer(+1)

it looks really fun and calm, hopefully it will reemerge at some point *crossed fingers*

Submitted(+1)

Yeah. There's some trashy new version i can't remember the name of. But it's ugly and boring lol

Developer(+1)

oh no, that is unfortunate :( here's to hoping they make a better version then!

Submitted(+1)

It's extremely creative and stands out uniquely in line with the theme of 【loop】. I was completely immersed in the gameplay, and this gaming experience was fantastic!

Developer

Thank you so much for taking the time to give our game a try! :) Glad you liked it! We are motivated to continue working on it. :)

Very unique idea, great take on the theme, and I like the potential it has! Great job, I would just suggest going for the web build so you can reach more people with your amazing ideas! Well done!!!

Developer

Thank you for trying out Mistwatch and for your kind words! <3 We will definitely be bring out a web build next time around, this year we had some issues during build export and we couldn't get it to work unfortunately, but next year is the year!

Submitted(+1)

This is really, really fun, probably the game with the most potential. I really encourage you to keep working on it because with a few added things, it could do really, really well. I feellike you should be able to have multiple paths and I also found that sometimes, even though the enemy is very close/in the direction the fighter is facing, they won't attack for some reason, that could also get worked on. Still, I had a lot of fun playing it, and I don't usually like tower defense games.

Developer(+1)

You made our day! :) When we came up with an idea for this game jam, we had a feeling this could become something really good. And now, seeing such a positive reaction to this small piece we managed to implement in time is so encouraging. Thank you for taking the time to try it out! 😊

Submitted(+1)

Cool idea, well executed! Had fun with this one. :) Nicely done!

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad you had fun :)

MistWatch is a mustwatch, really nice game loved the simplictic but refied art style

Developer

eeeey, ahahaha, thank you for that one! :D Mustwatch might be the new tagline for the game :D

Thank you for checking it out and your kind words!
