Great detective game with minimalistic art!

UI was quite easy to use.

Figuring out a motive and an accomplice/motive instead of just a murderer is a nice touch.

Great job!

really cool detective game, i enjoyed it.

I liked that every possible option was in the uis when needed to be used (like evidence when talking) also the summaries to remind myself who said what. It helped to understand the game very quickly because i havent played a game like this before. The only thing that stumped me was the timejump of mister white alive/dead, but i got that pretty fast.

Really great entry and i solved the mystery :D

I can't believe I almost accused the very obvious red herring lol

Personally I think that making an accusation should hold more weight in the game (maybe making a false accusation leads to a game over or just deducts your health / morale) to discourage players from just randomly guessing suspects, and there could be a more of an ending to act as a payoff for solving the mystery, but overall the game was an enjoyable experience. The clues and testimonies given were not so obvious that they forfeit the mystery at the first glance, but if you examine them carefully they give a clear answer as to who murdered the victim and why. Good job!

Interesting mystery.

Mechanics worked, it could use some juice to make interactions and talking more interesting. The evidence presenting was quick and easy to use which I like. No fiddling with inventory or nested menus to present all of them.

I enjoyed solving the mystery. The writing was subtle enough that it took some brainpower to figure out, but was still solvable quickly.

I liked the persons tab. It helped me come to a decision faster since I didn't have to walk back and forth as much and it helped solidify who was who.

The art is a mixed bag. It's good in the sense that the characters are mostly easily distinguishable and the rooms are also easily mapped out due to the different flooring, but the low resolution on some of the floors and the walls having no depth I think hold the environment design back. I do like the simplicity of the furniture though. They were all easily recognizable even though they're basic shapes.
I kept getting characters mixed up in my mind. I think partially because I hadn't seen all the characters first so I couldn't map their image in my mind when someone mentioned a name. Maybe showing the persons list on start would help.

It would be nice to have an outro that reiterated the motives to confirm suspicions, but it's not super necessary.

All in all a fun mystery.

My process in finding the solution

Guessed twice. First one accused green since I assumed she was part of the affair. Seeing both bathrooms and that she left from the bedroom made it suspicious that she went to the master bathroom rather than the closer one to the couch or dining table.

I might have also unconsciously picked up on the colors since the secretary had a chance of implying something. I thought it was more that green and red were partners, but discarded that when they didn’t seem to have interacted.

Second guess was a bit flimsy, but it was the correct one. Knowing what White AI said about not telling his wife (red) and her reaction being “I don’t know anything about that”. Was a little too standoffish, and combined with the choices showing Jealousy and Blackmail made it pretty likely that that was the answer.

The accusation menu might be a little too narrow with the Blackmail answer. Maybe if there wasn’t a accomplice motive selector?

Thought this was super cool! I love stuff like this and it was very fun to try and figure it out, very intuitive controls and game loop, great work!

I'm the worst detective EVER, I coudn't figure it out, after 18 accusations I gave up. Still, really fun and neat mistery game. I'd argue that whenever I'm close to an interactive object I should get a hint like "space to talk" or "space to grab" because I had to leave the game to read the instructions. Other than that, fun experience even if I accepted defeat. And an extra star for originality. Great job!!

Hint on 'blackmail' evidence

Mr. White’s Ghost has something interesting to say about this.

Hint on 'invitation' evidence

Mr. Black doesn’t appear to see this the same way as everyone else.

Hint on 'report' evidence

Mr. Yellow might be interested in this as the CFO.

Strong hint 1

Mrs. Red is Mr. White’s wife.

Strong hint 2

Mr. Black’s statement about seeing the murderer seems strong, but maybe he didn’t see everything correctly.

Strong hint 3

Mr. Yellow didn’t want the report getting out, and said ‘she’ would bury it. Who is ‘she’?

Solution Mrs. Red found out about the affair through the blackmail note. In a rage, she killed Mr. White and ran out of the room and back into the study. Mr. Black saw her, but mistook her for Mrs. Green due to his colorblindness. Mrs. Red then blackmailed Mr. Yellow into providing an alibi for her by promising to cover up his embezzlement.

Very great little mystery game! Controls and dialogue were very well done! Wish there was more of a bread crumb as the final solution did feel a tad bit obvious but for the amount of time we had cant be too let down

I didn't solve the mystery but I did like the concept of the game, felt a bit like cluedo - I like the style of the graphics and the sound effects. I too thought follow up questions would have been helpful. My main crtique is that the map was bigger than it needed to be - too much walking for me. but that is a small thing. Nicely done!

Developer

Cluedo mixed with a bit of Ace Attorney is exactly what I had as an inspiration, I’m glad you picked up on that. Thanks so much for the kind words and for playing!

I thought the music and sound effects were charming and had so much personality, I had fun playing and trying to figure out the puzzle.

It would have been awesome to be able to ask more follow-up questions after learning new info from others, or to show evidence and get their reactions.

I wasn’t able to solve the mystery though - I think a few more hints or bits of feedback on what to investigate would’ve really helped!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I definitely struggled a bit with the dialogue and system, but I appreciate the idea on more interactivity with the characters. I also posted a hint/solution if you’re interested.

Loved it! Yeah, took some time and attempts, I guess I'm not the best detective hehe

Great whodunit, UI and controls feel good. Some hints after wrong guesses would definitely help out, but after talking to everybody a couple of times and getting crucial evidence - it clicks.

Thank you for playing! This is my first time making this type of game so I wanted to avoid giving away the whole plot, but incremental hints is definitely a good idea.

I think the evidence is all there to solve this, but I think it would be very helpful to have some indication of how wrong you are, or  at least what guesses you've made. After the first couple guesses it's easy to lose all sense of who's possibly guilty. I also think the characters' reactions to the evidence should be stored in your evidence log as well.

Developer

That’s very fair criticism, I had a time getting the text and logic all put together. I wanted to make it difficult enough, but I think by the point that you’ve made a mistake it’s better to tell you what you’ve got right and wrong.

Nice game, but this is not my type of game :<
