Short but scary! The jumpscare and chase could be a little scarier, but her movement around the map and how being careful I had to be while looking around for the items made me very paranoid and tense.
You nailed the graphic style, it looks great. The sound design was also really good, wish there were more audio elements but still great as well.
I feel it was impossible to escape if you were being chased already, when far from the bell at least, but maybe I'm just bad lol.
Awesome submission and good job!
Incredible visual style and a wonderfully eerie atmosphere :)
Really nice, properly spooky game! I'm not sure the bell worked (or maybe the stun time is very low?), as I rang it, turned around and was immediately caught. But it made me scream so awesome job fitting the theme :D
Wow, this was so scary lol but really great game, nice work! The sound design really gave me the creeps haha
Really scared me lol. Everything is great and feels polished. The camera movement feels weird sometimes, though, like I cannot turn 360 degrees on some occasion, but overall, really enjoy this one, despite never beat it.
i like it
Really Like The Aesthetics, And This Game Actually Was A Bit Spooky With Some Good Gameplay. The Head Tilt When The Witch Sees You Is Awesome. Would Love To See A Full Game In This Style With More Narrative And Horror Elements.
You managed to do something here that many game developers try at without success. Congratulations.
Amazing work here! It took me a moment to understand the witch's mechanics, but after that the game was very fair and fun to play!
Keep up the good work!
This was a pretty solid game!
The art direction and use of the PS1 vertex shader add to the experience. I can't say the jumpscare got me, but the game's atmosphere did keep me on edge, despite there not being much besides the swamp ambience. Having the ability to stun her when she chases you is a great addition -- it makes you feel like you actually have a chance once the sequence starts and you're close enough to a bell. Thankfully, I never had to use it much.
Great job on this submission!
Nice vibes! The jumpscare got me good, though I'm not sure why I got caught (I stunned the witch near the well and sprinted, but got caught at the door). The visuals are really good!
I really enjoyed this one.
The visuals are detailed and very atmospheric. The controls work very smoothly.
Getting caught by the Witch was terrifying! She always popped up out of nowhere... and then I could feel her influence even before she caught me. That little crack of the neck. The uncontrollable shaking of the camera. I kept thinking I'd managed to get away... but no. Very frightening, every. Single. Time.
I really enjoyed the soundscape outdoors, but there were some other choices I wasn't so sure about, like the sound that plays when you talk to Grandma.
I also would have liked a bit more background about the history between Grandma and the Witch. It seems... personal somehow.
And... why is the game called The Watch?
Oh, the tension I felt while playing this one! I had trouble getting the hiding mechanic working when the witch was nearby and I also wished that returning back to grandma's house with some of the items would save my progression. Great visuals and styling here, too. Thanks for making and sharing your game; I really enjoyed it!
I really loved how polished your game was! It was fun and proved that you don't need quantity of content, but rather quality. One issue I found, though, is that the web version didn't capture my mouse so my movement was limited. Had to download. I really liked the aesthetics too. Good job for a week.
Cool game loved the gameplay and the visuals!
This is one of my favorites, short but entertaining for the 10 minutes it lasts.
I hated this, I was on edge constantly 🤣, Really great polished entry and just nailed the whole package.
The are was great, it gave me such a strong nostalgic feeling, if i wasnt constantly sweating ti felt like i was back as a kid playign N64 or ps1. The art style was supported by really nice effects, from the fog to the catch sequences and talking to grandma.
The music and audio was used to good effect and stresfull. that scream and head til genuinly got me.
It really feels like you nailed down what you went for, eveything works well together and theres a lot of extra little touches (i liked all the interactables in grandmas house). This really felt like a finished thing, not a game jam entry. You nailed the pacing and game feel.
My issue was i could never get lal the things, i got real close a couple of times and then paniced, which is i guess a sign of a horror game done well. I would have loved to finish but i have already been distracted form voiting for other games much longer than i intended! I will probably be back when i have voted some more just to see if i can beat it.
Great job, thanks for sharing.
Really neat game! Love the visuals. Don’t know if there’s a way to avoid the witch once she saw you, but if I wasn’t able to figure it out 😅 Atmoshphere and visuals are amazing.
Thanks for playing! There are actually two ways to avoid the witch. The bell stuns her temporarily, and there's a way to break aggro that's hinted at in the dialogue with grandma (something to do with hiding...), but after seeing player feedback and playthrough videos it seems like we should have made that message more overt.
Made it to the end. Had to do some ways to circumvent the spawning of that mad lady. Not sure if I was at the mercy of RNJesus or the exploit worked but I was able to retrieve the hatchet from the far end somehow. Was an interesting experience.
