I'm so shocked that you can actually play competitive multiplayer games during a game jam!!! The music is so inspiring, and it would be even better if there were tutorials for beginn(If you'd like, could you come and check out our game?)

Developer

Thank you so much!! Also if you saw another player, that was me. I was trying to chat with you but I couldn't type 😭
I'm glad you enjoyed it, time to give your game a go :D

Submitted(+1)

wow!!!that surprise me,There had this function !but I misunderstood. I thought it was going to attack me so I ran away hahaha

Developer

haha, also I would like to say your game is very unique! and I like that you added translation options, that's hard to do in just 4 days!
I'm on day 7 in your game, I will play the whole thing before I rate

Submitted(+1)

Really?! If you're willing to test it, I'll send you a demo version later time. I think our game still has a lot of numerical issues that need to be resolved, and we'll continue to revise it! If you need testing, I can also help you!

Developer

That sounds awesome! yeah, I saw sometimes I got +0 money and one time I got NaN. I would like a demo version later for sure! And thank you so much for offering testing help, I made a patched version of the game that I will be releasing after the rating period ends. I've already tested that version with a friend, but if I need more help, I will let you know. I hope you get your game working!

Making an online game in a game jam is a great achievement!! well done!!

Submitted(+1)

This game really fun but playing against bots is soo hard :( But otherwise, really good job! :D

Submitted(+1)

An online multiplayer for a jam game was super impressive especially in scratch great work!

Submitted(+1)

Very nice concept! I like the idea of everyone locking in their moves with a shared timer. The fact that it was made with Scratch is very impressive! Good job!

Submitted(+1)

once i got the movement mechanic i gotta say its pure genius such a cool and unique mechanic idk how you came up with such gold!

Developer

Thanks so much!!

This game i feel is really good compared to a lot seeing how it was made in scratch, I feel like the game was really slow paced though and I am not really good at waiting, I recommend trying to use Unity or GoDot next time because its gonna be easier to customize the game how you want to and it will probably be easier to make as a whole.

Developer (1 edit)

True! I get waiting games is not everyone's taste lol, and I totally agree about using Unity or Godot! The main reason behind using Scratch is because its cloud variables didn't require downloading or as many dependencies, as this is online multiplayer and downloadable games preform worse. The game gets more fast paced as you level up because you have more points to work with, but it's still catered towards strategy. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I remember making small games in scratch when I was younger but nothing this impressive, just the fact that it's a multiplayer game is mind blowing! well done!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much! I'm going to assume that was a long time ago, modern scratch and Turbowarp has made scratch a viable game engine. I'm really glad you took the time to see this :D

Submitted

Yeah it doesn't seem to fit the theme. But it was addicting lol I spent way too long getting to level 5

A multiplayer game in scratch is easy cause you've got cloud variables. Next you should try it in godot. Now you've got something HARD lol But great job! You've got the hook very good! I had a lot of fun.

Also I'd appreciate feedback on my submission if you get a chance!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

trying to make a cloud game without something as intuitive as cloud variables sounds like a PAIN 😭
I will admit, this games connection to the theme is pretty loose - basically the 'loop' is that whenever you level up, your character's stats reset - just barely adhering to the theme there haha. I'm really glad you found my game enjoyable enough to make it to level 5! Since you asked, I replayed the patched version of your game for about 35 minutes, and here's my thorough feedback:

PROS:

Gameplay: The snake physics is really fun, and I actually really loved how it moved through the world! It really did FEEL like I was slithering around the map. Great physics.
-Art: The art in this game is definitely one of my favorites in the whole jam, no joke. Not only does it look great, there's also so much detail that went into it; the home tree looks so good, the way the grass moves in the wind, the birds in the background and the animals were done beautifully. Even the bark monster looks cool in a creepy sort of way lol
-Narrative: The idea of growing in size until you could beat the bark monster had me keep playing. I genuinely wanted to complete the game, finally killing the monster that tormented me this whole time

CONS:
-Hard to Navigate: although the gameplay looks and feels great, especially as a tiny snake, its REALLY difficult to get out of pits. Believe me, I tried everything I could, even checked the description for any instructions I might have missed, but that essentially softlocks the game and stops progression.
-No Animals Eaten Indicator: Although I see my stomach bloating with every animal I eat (nice touch btw), sometimes its hard to tell exactly how many animals I need to reach the next stage of growth
-No Music: I really feel like music and sound effects would make this game a lot livelier (more than it already is!) Like rustles of the snake slithering in grass, the gust of the wind, squeaks of rabbits or bleats of goats, maybe even sounds for the bark monster

SUGGESTIONS:
-
When the snake is full, especially in early stages of the game, give the snake some sort of jump boost to make navigation easier
-Add a progress bar that tracks how many animals needed to be "full" or ready to grow
-Add music and sfx

I really hope you take this feedback into account because I absolutely adore your game and would love to see it improve! It really is great, especially for just 4 days of working on it!

(edit: I did not CHAT-GPT this, I hand typed all of it)

You sir, are my favorite person is the entire world!! You wrote a 5 paragraph novella of feedback for me!! This is SO helpful!! Thank you! I have a screenshot and will be keeping it at my right-hand side as I continue work on this game!  Audio is definitely the next step! A well as making the grass interactable so that the bunnies and goats will squish it like they're sitting on it.

As far as the difficulty of navigating I'm thinking maybe I'll stretch the noise for the terrain generation out on the x axis to make the ground be more horizontal... That might fix that issue. And a little bit of HUD to show when you're full might be good... I might also do something like making his tongue hang out when you're full or some other visual thing, for the same reason that you bulge instead of just having HUD to say how full you are. That reason being that HUD, in my opinion, is from the devil. lol Jk but I think it should be avoided if possible. Let me know if you have a better idea than a tongue.

Thank you again, I can't say it enough times! You've definitely been the most helpful comment of anyone! I really hope you and I will be up in the top 100 together! Good luck brother!

edit:(I knew you didn't Chat GPT it. Chat GPT, also, in my opinion, is from the devil. XD Thank you again for all this!)

Developer

That's fantastic! I am SO glad my feedback was meaningful to you and you are willing to use it for the next edition of your game! Also, those changes do seem like great additions to the game, I would LOVE more little visual touches like that! I see why would like to avoid having a HUD haha, that's a totally acceptable design decision as long as you have some visual (and maybe even auditory) clue that indicates that the player is full. I seriously hope you make it in the top 100!! Best of luck to you as well! When you finish the full game, I would love for you to notify me when its out :D

And you're welcome. It was a privilege to play your game!

Submitted(+1)

I will totally let you know! I followed you so I won't forget. And an audible clue is a great idea! I'll probably do both in case someone turns off the sound though.

Submitted(+1)

I didn't get the 'loop' theme so much (maybe because I wandered around, tried taking on a bot, then died haha), but it's wicked impressive making a multiplayer scratch game in 4 days.

Developer(+1)

Ty! I'll admit, the loop theme is a loose fit for this game, but the idea is every time you level up (up arrow button) all of your stats get reset but you receive more points per round relative to your level, and when you die your level gets reset to 1

Submitted(+1)

It’s impressive that you made all this in game jam. I guess playing with people must me lot of fun. When playing with robots, really good strategy was just to wait to level up and do nothing - left bots to beat each other. If some robot apeared, I just spammed to kill him fast.

Developer(+1)

haha that's definitely true - the bots were more of a last minute edition to the game compared to everything else I worked on, so their tile placement is randomized instead of strategic. Thanks for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Really well done. The game mechanics are simple in essence, but leads to a lot of emergent strategies that let you play all sorts of ways. Implementing multiplayer is also impressive and even though I only played with bots I had fun, and I can definitely see the potential of playing on a server full of players.

Developer

Thank you, that means a lot to me! I really appreciate you checking this out!

Submitted(+1)

It was really nice! Making it multiplayer is a big bet that you achieved :))

Developer(+1)

Thanks, that was the hardest part of it!

Submitted(+1)

The idea is really nice, i like that you have to manage things carefully and figure out how to spend your points each time a new cycle of seconds begins. The style is simple but suits the context well, and it’s multiplayer too!

Developer(+1)

Yep! I was aiming for a strategy multiplayer PvP game, but not many players are on usually. Thanks for giving it a go!

Submitted(+2)

very impressive that this was made in scratch. the bots made this worth checking out even when no players were on- played till level 3 and killed a bot. very simple game and does fit the theme to some level. awesome work!

Developer

I'm so glad the bots still made the game somewhat enjoyable, even though the thing was designed specifically for multiplayer. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

First game with Scratch that I have try and sound was so enjoy playing.

If possible, can you please rate my game and leave a comment too.

Submitted(+1)

Amazing that there's multiplayer and bots, really great stuff. Game fits the theme interestingly too. with great audio and visuals. A bit too slow paced for my liking though.

Developer

Ty! It's supposed to be slow paced at first, but as you level up you get more points to spend, making it way faster as you go on. Unless building tiles is broken for you - which would limit your movement and take some fun out of the game. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

First multiplayer game I ever saw on the jam for now. great work!

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive making a multiplayer game for a game jam!! Love the trash talking by the bots LOL

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! They also get salty when they lose XD

Submitted

The bots threaten each other in chat and I just think that's funny

Developer

LOL yeah, its basically a toned down COD lobby
