I absolutely love the hand-drawn art, specially the goopy monsters. The water mechanic seems like a good take on survival horror-esque resource management, but I was unable to experience it properly since the bucked just glitched out of existence after losing the stealth segment for the first time. Still, running away from the monsters was still quite a tense time, so good job.
guys i think izumi might be the monster. everybody knows that the woods are evil, why would izumi scam us like this? incredible art direction on this game btw.
Very nice game, obviously great graphics, although I'm a little sad the story had to be cut.
I don't know if that's intended, but when transitioning from a place onto another on web the audio glitched out for me. Don't know if that is by design and/or also happens on download
Really love the cute hand drawn art style and the Japanesse music playing in the background! The water meter obstruct a little portion of text at the end, though, and I thought there would be something more happening when Izumi drank the water, but then it ended right there. But overall, really love the aesthetic of the whole game!
Thanks for playing and enjoying the game. We actually wanted to have more levels in the game, but ran out if time. That is why the story ends kind of abrupt with Izumi drinking the water. But we had to cut that, because we ran out of time to add the other levels. In hindsight, we should have made that clearer in the game.
The story was already fleshed out. It would have dealt with the consequences of Izumi drinking the water and how that changes Izumi, but also the relationship between the sisters.
Very interesting game with an amazing artstyle. The water mechanic was really clever and well implemented.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for checking out our game and your feedback!
Really solid game! The hand drawn artwork is beautiful, and I think y'all did a phenomenal job at escalating the tension throughout the game. I didn't understand the water splashing concept (maybe why I wasn't able to finish the runs I attempted here), but I strongly appreciated what I was able to see and experience during my playthrough--the visual effect when you get close to the bad things is so cool!
Thank you for playing the game and your feedback!
Colour me impressed, this is a game so good that I am left complaining about ignoble things like, that I would've liked a better hint what areas I can't go to... I didn't beat it but I like it alot, a more polished versions would be amazing to have. Great job!
Thank you for your feedback and enjoying it. We actually wanted to have more content in the game and ran out of time during the jam, so we had to cut out a lot. But happy that you enjoyed the content that is already in the game!
Beautiful hand-drawn graphics and sparse color aesthetic! Loved the music, which really helped place the game world. It took me a while to figure out the “Splash water” mechanic, mainly due to it lacking both sound and animation for me. The game got difficult later on (or maybe I just suck lol). Didn’t manage to beat it in this sitting, maybe I come back to it
Thanks for playing the game and your feedback! As the composer, I am really happy you liked the music. Creating the scenario and trying to make a cohesive experience visually, narratively and acouticly was something we put a lot of thought into - so we are happy that it worked well for you!
The thicker brush strokes on some of the background object give sort of a ink painting kinda vibes. Very cool aesthetics.
The aesthetics in this game are top notch, I wish the camera was a little more zoomed in so I could see the character sprites and animations more clearly because I think they look great! the background and level art also look really good, I'm a real sucker for messy line art so you really got me with that. Great work and good luck in the jam!
This one was a blast! I really liked the vibe created by the art style and the beautiful music. The mechanic of carrying water and being able to attack enemies with it was really interesting. But I think the most impressive part was the story. It really felt like diving into some old folklore. You guys really struck gold with this one. I would not be surprised if this worked out as a full game with a bit more polish and a longer story.
Thank you a lot! I did both the story and the music, so I am happy that you liked both of these a lot. Sadly, we had to cut a lot of the planned content - originally, there were more nights and every night you had to fetch water from the well and Izumi would then drink it. So the main story would have evolved around Izumi and how the water would change her and the tragic consequnces of that. I planned out the original story to be equally horror and tragic.
But it is very hard to keep working on a game after the Jam, so we have to see if any of this can ever be realized.
The glitching scene transition sounds scared me.
I'd like to see more of the story; it reminds me of lots of classic Japanese folklore-based games/novels/animes—one of my favorite kinds. The Kami looks suspicious. I can feel strange thing happening within Izumi's body after drinking the water.
The background music really stands out there.
Thank you a lot! As the one who made both story and music, I am really happy you enjoyed both of those!
Yes, the story is very much routed in traditional folklore. Sadly, we had to cut some content and it was originally thought that there were more nights and the story would progress every night when fetching the water from the well. It would then evolve around how the water changes Izumi and how Suiko tries to safe her sister, but actually hurting her by giving her the water. So thematically, it would be very much rooted in japanese folklore and be equally scary and tragic.
It is fairly hard to work together as a team outside of the jam and put in the additional time commitment, so it will be hard to continue on this. But never say never, maybe there is a way to continue the story somehow.
Nice take on the jam! Really liked the style of the game.
The art is stunning! I couldn’t get through the dialogue at first, then realized you progress with Enter, which is a bit unusual lol? :D Still great work!
This game for me needs more context I think
I repeating asking myself for more, but it didn't
The visuals are lovely though and if you guys had more time this game will be amazing
I love the visuals. The background audio is peaking for me tho, is that by design?
There're no specific design for the audio so it should play normally. We could have a bug related to that. Sorry for the bad experience with Audio 🙏
Is there a windows build? it might be better there
Thank you for the feedback. Is it on all the audio or just a specific track/moment? I mastered all the music with quite a bit of headroom, peak limiters and used a loudness meter, so the peaks should not come from the files. But maybe, if it is just a certain point, I can check and see if it is indeed in the audio and I indeed missed something.
It's on the background music. I'll try once again with a different browser, maybe it's opera that is messing it up
I recorded a short video with the music messed up https://streamable.com/fhmzia
thank you for the video. But this is definately not related to the audio files. Not sure what causes this at all (I am not a coder at all), but I can guarantee that this does not come from the audio files.
But we gonna look into this, thank you for the feedback!
it might have something to do with unity's compression
First off, the look of the game is great, and the background alone made me interested in the world of the character. I do wish the well part had a bit more explanation, and I felt like it ended a bit abruptly. But since it’s a game jam, I imagine most of the time went into creating the beautiful art. I keep mentioning it, but the hand-drawn art style is so pretty. I do think the feedback for the splashing mechanic was a bit unclear, and there should be a way to refill the water since, once you run out, you can’t use it anymore. Either way, it’s visually beautiful, and I’d love to play more games from you guys.
Hello and thanks for the feedback. I worked on the story and the dialogue and the story indeed had to be cut. We had an entire story mostly fleshed out, but could not add all the content because we ran out of time. So we somehow had to make a decision and we just tried to deliver the first level and the story up until there with as much polish as we could in the limited time.
We had planned out more levels and the story would have progressed in a similar way between the gameplay sections. So this is why the story ends a bit abruptly, because we made the decision to cut most of it out rather late - and redoing the entire narrative to fit in just one night would have felt wrong and I think it also would have clashed with the atmosphere the art was building up to.
so maybe one day we can fnish the cut content and then hopefully, you are going to see the full narrative. I guess Suiko giving that water to her sister is probably not a good idea,...
but also, we cannot make any promises. It is what it is with the constraints of game jams.
The art and atmosphere are so calming, this came together really nicely - I think the music glitched out when I changed areas a few times but that was really minor and overall this feels great!
pretty cool game, a littl frustrating but great. The sound gets a bit repetitive sometimes, and the splash water would need a bit more feedback in my opinion, but other than that, great job!
