It's a neat concept, but it feels a bit buggy at the moment. The auto-targeting can screw you up if you're close to both a barrel and an enemy, and some of the enemies become frozen after a failed loop. Also, the tutorial text is a bit misleading, if says "click to hook the enemy", which sounds like a melee attack, it should have said "click to loop around/tie the enemy".

Still, with some post-jam updates, this could be an absolute banger.

Developer

Thank you for playing and fore the great feedback!

I agree, that phrasing is very misleading, to hook someone does sound like an attack. Communication to the player is for sure one of the weakest aspects of our game (apart from the controls being quite difficult / janky).

We will make sure to keep your feedback in mind if we create an updated version :)

Really cool gameplay mechanics, a little clunky at first but can get pretty slick. Really like the art style as well! Well done!

agree with everyone else about the controls. i tried clicking on the pillars to hook them but it dont work like that. still the core mechanic is really fun. would like to see you build more on this concept

We had a similar idea to this, and it's coo to see it implemented here. As others have said the controls are a bit too janky (completely loosing control when launching and clicking on a small anchor gets pretty annoying - plus if you miss you get stuck in that direction with no way to regain momentum). I've seen a different approach  in a top down game where you simply loop around wherever you click - which could also work here. The art and sfx are great and fit the vibe.

Thank you for playing :D

That does seem like a more intuitive approach to looping, we might attempt it after the jam!

Nice vibes, but unfortunately I found the controls to be too janky to be able to get into it. I tried for a bit and finally figured out how the chain mechanics was supposed to work, but even after that I just couldn't wrap my head around whether I have successfully attack the enemies or not. I also didn't get how sometimes when I pressed Space I was able to launch and sometimes not. The area of detection of objects when you're able to loop around them is also very unclear. When I was finally able to get the game started, the very first enemy lags the game and ground it to a halt, until I return back from the chain.

Thank you for playing and for the feedback!

We have some severe lack of communication in the game. I have added a better explanation in the description now. You have to be moving to initiate a leap and you have to “complete the loop” (i.e. join the chain back to the spool) to perform an attack. Both of these requirements were not communicated at all to the player 😅

It’s a big case of not playtesting the game during the jam and us devs playing exactly as we intended the player to, not realizing how un-intuitive the controls were.

I really like the art, sound, and concept. The  sound + visuals of the chains are really awesome! I had a hard time figuring out how to consistently loop enemies though.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the kind words! The looping mechanic seems to be a common pain point, definitely something we could improve upon ;)

rlly cool ideia and asthetics! just had a litle hard time figuring out the controls

Very creative idea, I like it a lot! Art and the atmosphere is very nice as well. The controls for the looping are pretty tough though, definitely requires some practice. Also sometimes, it wouldn't kill an enemy even when I looped around it and I am not sure why. But great job with the game!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeah the game for sure lacks some proper communication regarding the games rules and the requirements for an attack to be executed (also a bunch a bugs that we failed to catch) but I am happy you liked it despite this! :)

Love the atmosphere of the game, art especially!

Thank you! <3

Really cool concept, but damn this is so hard to get the hang of it ! The whole thing with the chains is very well made, from what I know this is really hard to do rope based mecanics like that so really good job !

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! Yeah we definitely need to improve the ease of use of the mechanic but I appreciate your kind words :)

very interesting art style!

Very creative mechanic! Took me a while to get the hang of how to do it but figured it out eventually! I like the artstyle, looks very clean and well done!

Thank you very much! :D

Your sfx are done really well. I also like the little reaper man I play as quite a bit. Thanks for putting the gif of gameplay in the images, it really helped me understand the mechanics better. Well done!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed the SFX! I wish I had dedicated more time to them as there are several missing that I would have liked to implement.

Good to know that the gif helped! We could definetely work on having better explanations in the game as well 😅

Very cool idea!

Its a cool game. very creative mechanic :)

I like the idea. The execution was a bit flimsy and took a bit to get the hang of. I think if you really worked on the navigation and "wrapping" mechanics, focusing on what makes them fun, this could really be a great game!

Thank you very much! :)

Very creative take on a theme. Nice visuals and sfx, congrats!

Developer

Thank you! :)

Feels great once you get the hang of the looping controls! Also digging the aesthetic and character designs.

Thank you very much! <3

Same comment as others, the controls are really hard, but it's good idea !
