How does the game fit the theme?
The idea was to risk going deeper into a building for better loot — but I ran out of time and only built the first floor. So for now, you risk it for one biscuit, then get out!

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
See the game page.

Short but cool, had fun lol :)

For a one person game AND your own engine?? Damn, I can only imagine what would it be if you put all the time into the game!! Nice one.

Cool game, a bit on the short side, but it was fun! Using your own engine for a jam game is a crazy feat, so congrats!

Wow, short and sweet! Good hotline miami vibes (but more health which is nice)

Your engine feels tight, it blows my mind that people build their own from scratch!

It made me want more levels, so I challenged myself to defeat all the enemies instead of just grabbing the package, which made it much more strategic with ammo!

Two recommendations, keep enemies from shooting before I come around the corner, and allow a bit of camera pan towards the cursor to see further.

Great work, love to see this kind of entry!

Thanks a lot, really glad you liked it!

Appreciate the feedback. More levels and your recommendations are definitely on my list if I keep working on it. As for the enemies, I'm just glad they even work properly with the little time I spent on them :D

I love these top down shooters! good job, quite short, but I enjoyed it :)

This is a pretty stylish looking shooter, would be fun to see some more levels/upgrades etc but you've nailed the feel, nice work!

Nice game! Short but intense! We can feel the Hotline Miami inspiration.

Nice choice of music! I like your take on a game like Hotline Miami. It feels nice and works perfect!

Like others have said, it's so impressive that you made the game engine and got it working on web! If you come back to it, I'd be interested in what aspects you could change to make it less similar to Hotline Miami - what experience do you want the player to have etc?

Developer(+1)

Thank you! The web port alone took two full days (and still had issues after submission :D).

My original plan was multiple buildings with multiple floors. The main targets would be on the first floor and exploring upper floors would give you new weapons, grenades and upgrades. But dying upstairs would wipe your inventory.

The web port, physics and enemy behavior took more time than I planned. But if I decide to continue, most of the systems are ready for more content.

Really cool game! I really love the SFX and the soundtrack's on fire! Just a little bit too short. I also noticed the intentionally designed enemy AI, highly polished! I see potential in this!

Hotline Miami vibes! This was fun, the controls were tight, and I just wish there were more of it. Nice one!

Short but super cool and polished game, the music fit super well with the visuals and gameplay. ^-^ I would love to of seen what you could of made with more time. ^-^

Well this is a promising game. A bit of polish,  and boom, you got a sick game on your hands. Reminds me of Hotline Miami!

The visuals, gameplay, and sounds are quite pleasant, it's a pity that the game is so short

Reminded me of first GTA in a way, felt pretty good. I can't get used to the trackpad on my laptop when playing. Think it would be better with gamepad or maybe some other way of moving the gun and shooting or is it better with external mouse?

Developer

Thank you so much! The game doesn't have gamepad support and yes it is definitely better to use an external mouse.

Very nice, I'm impressed you made your own game engine, that's not an easy task.  A darker outline for the bullets would be nice, so they can be seen on the yellow floor.  Good controls and game play!  Good Job!

Developer

Thank you! I wanted to add glow to bullets to solve that problem and make it look cool, but I ran out of time. Wish I thought of your solution. It's way simpler and I could've done it in time :D

Super insane to make your own engine and then work on it while doing the jam but I enjoyed the vibe even tough more gameplay would have been nice.

Made with your custom engine? Very impressive for the jam! How do you even start programming your engine? Genuinely curious

Developer(+1)

Thank you! You start with a graphics api (I used OpenGL for this) and draw your first triangle. Then figure out as you go. There are so many great tutorials nowadays for entry level. It looks scary at first but I find it more fun to make something from scratch. And although it requires a lot of setup, for me it is actually easier to work with once you have the essentials.

This was really fun. I loved the hyper-gore and blood splatters, and the dead bodies were also fantastic. This felt super polished for a gamejam with a rocking soundtrack.
